Concerning the Sixth
From: hostdfcturi@aol.com (HOST DFC Turi)
Date: 05 Aug 2000 02:31:45 EDT
Lords and Ladies of the Duel of Swords,
As many of you may know by now, the challenge for the Sixth Ring did not take place last night as scheduled. The Baron had selected as the site the Battlefield, a location that used to frequently host such matches. Of late, however, the possibility of hillside collapse was identified, and so the Battlefield deemed unsafe for use.
I informed Baron Oakenshield and Warlord Kyle of this, and told them I would be willing to call elsewhere or, if both wished to reschedule, request an extention. The Warlord was unwilling to reschedule and requested the Baron move the duel to a more amenible location. The Baron was likewise unwilling to have the duel at a different location due to the history the Battlefield has for him. The Warlord then came to me and requested the Baron be
called into forfeit for refusing to duel at the appointed date and time.
I regret to say, this matter has therefore been turned over to the Barons Council for deliberation. I wish them all haste and more levelheadedness on this matter than the parties involved have shown.

My input for this matter...
I do not feel the Baron's Council is a day care center. While both parties have reasons for doing what they did, I'm not too fond of it, but I don't feel this is the case where the Baron's Council should be involved. I agree that both parties should agree on the particulars.
Therefore, when we are called to vote, I'm going to vote that the match be rescheduled. There are many times when parties have had problems agreeing on particulars (Lupton's challenge to myself, and we had an issue agreeing on a caller, for example) - however, the matters were eventually resolved without needing to ask the council to give victory to us.
On another note, I applaud Turi's decision if she deemed the area unsafe. Being one who officiates duels myself, I would not want a duelist to die because of a bad call/poor use of judgment I made; especially if there are other spectators watching the duel on the hill and they too, get hurt.

Though I am surprised at Var's opinion on this matter, I concur with it. This is not a forfeit issue and should not have been handed over to the Council. I find it greatly disturbing that the Lord Norminglade attempted to force a forfeit in such a situation. I find it even more greatly disturbing that it was granted and the matter was handed over to the Council. Were some of us so badly frightened by Val's excercise of
the duties of his job that we have lost all capacity to make decisions upon our own?
The Baron's Council members are not the officials of this sport. They should not be given the responsibility to make a decision that should be reserved to said officials.

Barons of the Council, Overlord Taylara Locklorn Tyree, Gentles,
Th' warlord, Master Daryl Kyle, in 'is haste ta attempt ta secure th' Sixth Ring, didst eschew anna suggestion ta reschedule th' match. Further, th' warlord wast heard ta cast slurs upon th' Baron, e'en ta hae ta gaul, ta temerity, ta ignorance, ta unmitigated arrogance ta insinuate th' th' Baron, Jeffrey Oakenshield, refused ta defend 'is title, a vile slander upon th' honorable name 'o ta Baron.
Th' warlord, Daryl Kyle, hast shown himself ta be little more th' a whining, whimpering, cur. One needs but ta hae witnessed 'is behavior o'ertime ast well ast 'is jottings upon th' very cork during an' following 'is last involvement in a challenge ta realize th' th' recently resurrected lout ist but another blot o' dung wh' leaves 'is stench upon th' ancient sport.
I do humbly call upon th' Council ta declare th' th' match shouldst be rescheduled. Further, I do humbly request o' th' Council th' they include in their final adjudication a request unto th' powers th' be th' an extension of time be granted wherein, once the unsafe conditions of th' battlefield hae been rectified, th' match may be held upon the field which hast been witness ta so much o' th' history an' tradition o' th' ancient sport.
By tradition and custom, tis the privilege o' th' challenged ta name th' place wherein he wishes ta defend 'is title. Tis only th' unsafe condition o' th' Battlefield which currently prevents th' match from being held upon th' field. I wouldst call upon the Council ta strive ta uphold th' tradition ta th' best o' their ability.
I shall offer from mine own personal holdings th' gold wi' which ta pay th' costs o' surveying th' battlefield ta determine th' extent o' th' repairs which may be required. Th' Kingdom o' Westridge an' th' Provinces contains vast tracks o' forested lands ast well ast skilled craftsmen and able bodied peasants which may be called upon ta assist in th' task. Certes there ast well be within th' community, those o' dwarven heritage who wouldst be most
skilled in undertaking the task of surverying th' site ast well ast overseeing the shoring up of the hillside in question.

I would be scared to fight Jeff in the battlefield too. And yes, that is the real reason why they didn't go there. Though I would be afraid of fighting him anyway, except in a pool filled about five feet high of water. I think I could take him there.

Members of the Community, below find the text of my recent letter on this subject.
Rather than have any more time wasted upon this subject, I will submit the following.
It is clear that a majority of the Council has decided that a rematch should take place. Following the clearly defined Rules of this sport, the duel is to take place in the Arena, the Annex, Twilight Island, The Outback, or the Duelers Hall. It is unknown at this time when, if ever, the Battlefield will be available for use again, so it may not be used for any official events at this time.
These are not my rulings or decisions, I am merely restating that which has already been stated by my superiors in the Dueling Staff.
It is my sincere hope that this duel can be finalized within the next two weeks. Further, I ask that the Baron and the Warlord render copies to me of every missive sent in arranging this meeting.
Thank you, members of the Council, for your swift deliberations upon this matter.
Thank you, members of the Staff, for your clear statements on the appropriate Rules governing this matter.
Thank you all for your time.

Madame Silvertree.
Perhaps thou hast been privily granted standing ast a member of the Council of Barons unbeknownst to the community?
Perhaps thou wouldst permit the Overlord, Taylara Locklorn Tyree, ast overseer of the Council, the right and privilege of pronouncing the decision of the Council.
How amusing that thee wouldst deign to opine that time ist being wasted upon the matter of the council's deliberations. Shall the Barons and the Overlord then dance to thine tune, Madame Silvertree? How verra arrogant of thee to e'en make such demands. Thou art neither the Supervisor nor his assistant, nor do thee hold standing within the Council or perhaps that hast somehow escaped thine addled brain.
How very interesting also to notice that certain of the Barons hae nae made known their decision with respect to this matter.
Madame, ast e'er, in yuir arrogance and pomposity, thou hast o'erstepped yuir duties.

Starfare.
Shut your trap.
The vote was verified by the Overlord, as her yourself if you wish. Unsurprisingly, it was one of the Barons you hold such favor for that claimed that the Overlord had no say at all in the deliberations of the Council.
You complain that the community is not told of events, then you complain when the community is told.
You, and your pen, are the darkest blot upon humanity there has ever been. You speak of a darkness that decends upon the Arena and the sport... yet you are the very heart of darkness itself.
I am almost gladdened that you spend so much time around the Arena... it means that your husband is raising your children and not you.

Madame Silvertree,
How very amusing, Madame. Be it a wee temper tantrum I do sense from yuir usual drivel? How very like thee, Madame to behave in such an ill bred manner, despite yuir claims to nobility.
Ast be yuir usual, Madame, thee hae o'erstepped yuirself by takin' on a task which rightly belongs to the Overlord, then hae th' unmitigated arrogance to expect that ye shouldst be praised for doin' so. Be it ast it may, Madame, t'was nae yuir place to make anna official pronouncement with respect to a matter which wast given unto the Council,
Drakey Poo, yuir attempts ta again play th' martyr be ast laughable ast e'er. Assuredly, Madame, thee wouldst opine about a dark heart, Madame, thee hae nae anna 'eart atall.
Tis e'en more amusing that thee wouldst babble on an' gossip about a Baron, an' nae hae th' gumption ta name said Baron. A typical act of cowardice on yuir part, Madame, though certes nae yuir first nor likely ta be yuir last.
Yuir an' insecure, pitiable, wretched wench, Drakey Poo wh' hae blighted th' office 'o Standin's Keeper an' wh' hae blighted ta sport. A pity, yuir so power crazed thee actually seem ta believe yuir doin' ta community a service.
Be it perhaps thee hold th' ta Overlord an' ta Baron's be nae able ta carry out their responsibilities, Madame? Perchance thee wouldst usurp their duties ast thee hae attempted to usurp those 'o th' Supervisor?
I assure thee, Madame, I am mos' heartily gladdened that thee dinna spend much time in the Arena. Tis thee hae done more th' enough when thou art present to promote the mediocre. Certes, thee wouldst desire all to succumb to thine level, Madame, for were th' ta 'appen th' shadow wh' thee cast wouldst then ta th' gullible perhaps be perceived ast a brightness, nae realizin' tis merely a trick 'o th' light.

Scoreboard for this new topic with arguments:
Round 1:
Jonalyn
"You now think you have the rights as a baron?"
"Why don't you let Tay make the announcement?"
"Who are you to say what time is being wasted?"
"You think the world revolves around you?"
"You're arrogant, and to think at the moment you have any say in this matter leads me to believe you have amnesia."
"You didn't even let some of the barons mention what they'd vote for."
"You are arrogant (x2) and pompous."
Drake
"Shut up"
"Tay verified it." (I don't recall getting anything from Tay, but that's an entirely different issue.)
"Hypocrite" (I'm assuming is what Drake's leading to) "a baron you support is one whom doesn't think Tay has any say in it at all."
"Nothing pleases you."
"You are the source of the problems - you must practice in a mirror when you talk about how bad things are."
"Please stick around the arena so your children don't end up like you."
Round 2:
Jonalyn
"Haha, you're funny."
"You're acting like a baby, as usual. If you're of the nobility, what are the commoners like?"
"Tay should have made the announcements. You doing so was an expected overstep of your boundaries. You want a cookie for this, too?"
"Your woe is me stuff keeps me from getting bored. I suppose you would regard a dark heart, considering it would be an improvement to what you have"
Drake
"It wasn't an official proclamation. Of course, I'd expect you to believe that."
"You're not the brightest torch in the lake."
"I'm going to keep some integrity to this fling fest, by not mentioning names of people I was referring to - I'd be doing them a favor, making sure you wouldn't annoy them as well."
This is my best way to summarize the words from each party. Since it didn't dawn on me that Val was on leave and Turi was given the power to call the council to task. Therefore, since the voting was counted, I feel it should be the council's announcement regarding this matter.
The point is that Turi, the assistant supervisor of the duel of swords, has asked the council to make a decision while Valentine is on leave. In all fairness to Drake, I think she wanted this rather stupid issue to be finalized as soon as possible. I don't think this is an issue to be brought to the council in the first place, so I naturally would want this over with as well.
Regarding the argument scoreboard, I'm sure I'll be corrected if I misread any of Jona or Drake's words; I just have been rather silent on the board and figured to summarize things up in case someone didn't feel like reading it all.
Tomorrow, watch as Drake and Jona tear out each other's proverbial hair and kick sand at each other!

Lady Drakewyn,
In as much as I regret to disagree with you, I have not verified anything. When I arrived this eve I found a few missives awaiting my perusal. One of the missives was from a Baron who just recently received word of the situation. Another was from a Baron that was tallying the ballots. After speaking briefly this evening with the Senior Baron an announcement regarding the Council's decision shall be prepared post haste and placed upon this cork
in the interest of the Community.

Our Overlord-thing is a moron.
Everyone better challenge me now, because everyone knows I'm gonna throw another stone at Tay next cycle.
