Ladies and Gents in the Community

It was once again my esteemed honor to bear witness to the right of challenge between two fine duelists.
This night, 22 August in first year of the century The Warlord, Damien Mortis pressed his challenge for the right to wear the ring of the Baron of the Tenth, Var Medici-Giovanni.
The match was witnessed by a moderate gathering and they were definitely entertained.
The duel lasted 17 rounds and in the end, a new Baron was named. Damien Mortis wrested the ring from Var Medici-Giovanni and did swear loyalty to the Overlord
Witnessed this 22nd day of August, 2000 at the 9th hour by the old water clock

:: Perusing the varied parchments upon the cork her gaze pauses on the results of the Tenth. A fine brow arched noting the alignment. ::

An impressive challenge gentlemen. Congratulations, Baron Mortis.

Very accurate. Nonetheless, I'm surprised an Overlord would allow a Loyal so obviously not loyal.

I suppose she's desparate.

Strangely, Lupton, it is the best course of action for the Overlord in this case. Banishment isn't going to instill Baron Mortis with the virtues of alignment. It didn't before. He is the potty-mouthed child merely starving for attention, an individual best dealt with disregard.

Deluthan,

I suppose, Lupton, much like myself believes a point could be made by banishing Damien. A point which would be much more important dan her saving her rank with one less Renegade. However, some duelers prefer politics, and keeping an obnoxious loyalist where he is, is definitely a political move. Still, Damien can switch at any time he sees fit, so I'd much rather a point be made and banish da SOB ta where he belongs.

Deluthan,

What sort of Overlord desires to accept a petition of Loyalty from a Baron who dislikes her?

A Baron does not decide to be Loyal, he requests. If his request is accepted, then it is mutual.

If I were Overlord, there are very few Barons I'd allow the privledge of being Loyal to me.

Well,

It's very clear what Damien's motives are. Although, he doesn't need him like the first time he used this. When Avery banished him, he challenged. He's hoping Taylara will do the same, which I can tell all of you now, she won't. It's not because she need Loyalists or anything like that. Although, the reason why is still a bit unclear to me..although I have the facts..it still boggles me.

Strangely enough, a fishing rod and can of bait is left sitting above the message boards. A symbol for all to see.

Lupton,

I am fairly sure Taylara understands that the loyalty Unagi, Ariadne, and myself carry for her extends beyond a simple "Loyal" as scribed on the standings, as I am sure you do. If the Overlord wishes to avoid Damien's antics by allowing this generic alignment, I find it to be an intelligent play on her part. And as this fishing pole and can which someone has happened to leave so generously for us alludes to, the Overlord's IQ reaches far above that
of a carp, or a dolphin.

No, Deluthan, not an overtly intelligent move,
just one that proves the Overlady's IQ is a little bit higher than that of shoe shine polish.

People with knowledge of the rules of the sport should realize what Mortis is trying to do. In fact, I have to say I'm a little frightened
that some individuals seem to think the Overlady should swallow the bait. Well, in Lupton's case, unsurprised. In closing, this missive is not pro-Taylara, but rather anti-illiterate rules manipulator.

Cas,

Your missive leaves me curious. What *is* Damien trying ta do? Is he tryin' ta get Taylara ta banish him so as he can challenge? It is my understanding he can switch ta Renegade and challenge without bein' banished. Da only advantage of Taylara banishin' him (for Damien) is he would have dibs at her before da Warlord Tournament winner does.

Now, is it intelligent ta avoid one more challenge at da cost of public humiliation? True, Taylara may not be offended by Damien's insults, but is she offended at bein' called a coward? If indeed she is afraid ta banish Damien ta avoid a challenge prior ta da WLT she is just dat, a coward.

Whether she faces Damien first and da WLT winner later really shouldn't matter. It is apparent she will have ta defend herself ta maintain her station quite a few times in da coming months, might as well get it over with.

The point is missed.

Damien cannot be Loyal without Taylara's approval.

If she had denied him from the start, she would have no need to banish him, for he was never Loyal.

Barons petition for Loyalty. Overlords accept or decline.

Actually, when first becoming a Baron, or upon the event of a new Overlord, the Barons may align themselves how ever they choose.

It is only if you were once Renegade, or Neutral, that you have to petition the Overlord.

It was Damiens choice to make, for whatever reasons he saw fit. It is up to Taylara to banish him to another alignment, and accept any consequence of doing so.

Yes Jeff, that is exactly what he is trying to do. And I don't know Damien nor do I have any slight desire to, so I don't know *why* he's thinking that he should taunt Taylara into banishing him-maybe he's not patient. I just know that deductive reasoning and knowledge of Damien's challenge history indicates that's what he's doing.

I agree Taylara is a coward if she avoids realigning one so blatantly unloyal. I also think Damien's a blatant opportunist trying to use a loophole to budge in front of everyone in the WLT. Neither one of them deserves the crown.
