Challenge to the Fourth - Results

Let it be known ~ ~
On the eve of March 30 I was honored to call the challenge issued forth by Warlord Corackshnea to the Baroness of the Fourth, Karen Wilder. The attendance was sparse, but the dueling excellent. The Baroness opted for the Best of Three as it would prove skill more then luck.
The Baroness dueled this eve under her Colours of Red and White. Her Standard; a white Maltese Cross on a Red field. She dueled with the blessings of the First Catholic Church of RhyDin and the Order of the Knights Templar. She dueled for no one's Honor but her own.
The Warlord dueled under his banner bearing two lightning bolts, one to the left side, blue, jagging down to the south-right, the second to the right, black, jagging down to the south-left, the bottom tips of each pointing to an eye in the center, what would normally be the white of the eye are instead blue, the
iris a violet-purple color, and the pupil a blood red, each of the colors of the eye almost seeming to glow.
The first match proceeded as follows: Challenge I
RD 01: Karen parried high as Strallen rounded one low. ((LP/FCP))
RD 02: Karen dropped to a stop hit and felt the sting of first blood as Strallen cut in low! 1-0 Strallen
RD 03: Strallen reversed only to find Karen ready with a lat parry to fend off the cut.
1-.5 Strallen
RD 04: Karen and Strallen both took a moment to circle the ring as they rethought their strategy for the next round. ((FSS/FSS))
RD 05: The parries were fast and furious as Karen turned one high and Strallen laid one low. ((FLP/FCP))
RD 06: Karen remained high, her cut meeting head on with a like cut from Strallen. ((HC/HC))
RD 07: Strallen stepped back from the action faltering as his feet got entangled in the low sweep by Karen. ((FSS/LC)) 1.5-1 Karen
RD 08: Karen stepped off this time to catch a glimpse of Strallen ducking low. ((FSS/DK))
RD 09: Strallen rose to his feet lunging forward, only to be thrown back by the rounded parry by Karen. ((TH/FCP)) 2.5-1 Karen
RD 10: Karen turned the edge of her sword to cut in low finding Strallen with a practiced Bishop block in return. ((LC/LC))
RD 11: Strallen again tried to reverse, his blade swinging high and over the head of the ducking Baroness. ((HC/DK)) 3-1 Karen
RD 12: Karen dances back not too sure what to expect as Strallen dropped into a stop hit for naught. ((FSS/SH))
RD 13: Karen's parry failed to defend this round as Strallen swept in low striking a knee. ((LP/LC)) 3-2 Karen
RD 14: Strallen parried this round and discovered the slashing technique of Karen to prove accurate and right on the money. ((SL/CP)) 4-2 Karen
RD 15: In a flash of steele Strallen cuts low taking a point as Karen stroked high taking the first match 5-3 in 15 rounds.
Karen took a moment to kneel in prayer before stepping back to the ring, the Warlord Corackshnea stood ready.
Challenge II
RD 01: Karen stepped back in sweeping out low, only to find Strallen readied with a circ parry to deny the attempt. ((FCP/LC)) 1-0 Strallen
RD 02: Karen ducked down low and under the high flourishing parry displayed by Strallen. ((FLP/FDK)) 1 All
RD 03: Karen stayed low reaching out to cut as Strallen turned the edge to cut back in high. 2 All
RD 04: This round Strallen ducked down in a tight curl only to find it fall to pieces as Karen slashed down hard. ((FDK/SL)) 3-2 Karen
RD 05: With a snap of wrists and quick movement by both a flurry of high cuts clashed sending an echo throughout the cavern.
RD 06: Strallen steps back to shake the sting from his hands unable to raise his blade in time to deflect the low blow by Karen. ((FSS/LC)) 4-2 Karen
RD 07: In retaliation Strallen strikes back low finding Karen rounding just as low to take the second match 5-2 in 7 rounds, therefore retaining her title as the Fourth Baroness of the Duel of Swords!! ((FCP/LC))
Karen Wilder retain s her title as the Foruth Baroness of the Duel of Swords, 2-0 in a Best of Three challenge, 5-3 and 5-2 respectively.

Ms. Wilder,
Thanks for spanking the upsart's arse and not allowing him to further sully the titles by actually having one. Good luck to you in continued defenses.

Mister Sneggle.
The Lady Wilder will not be challenging for the Mantle of the Overlord until the current pack of challenges, intended challenges and threats of challenges are completed.
It is the Lady Wilder's wish that any challenge she issues is observed on it's own merits.

Father Dominic,
Once again the issue of the Lady Wilders pre-occupation wi' yuir order (Knights Templar)
brings me to the question, will she ha'e time to serve the community or will she be sering yuir cause?
If it is the latter, twould seem tae me her time is best served wi' choosen one master.
I will nae support any efforts by the Baroness to rise to Overlord since she has openly stated she hasn't time to represent the DoS as it is.

Father Dominic,
I'm sure you'll excuse my ignorance on this matter. I am a strong financial and religious supporter of the Catholic community in both RhyDin and my home town of Talsiny and, therefore, I believe I have the right to know.
It frightens me that the Catholic Church of this city sees this sport as one of it's priorities. I can assure you that there are much greater causes that demand attention.
I am simply curious to know why the Catholic Church has decided to have a representative in this sport and what purpose the Lady Wilder serves the Church.

Baroness of the Fourth, Karen Wilder,
I ask that you respect this community that you hold title in by not sending another to speak your words for you, a.k.a Father Dominic. Your rank and titles outside of the rings does not make you any better or more loftier than any other dueler who shares these rings with you. I will not fault you for your religion nor your choice to make it your driving force and motivation in life either, and as you have stated it is your highest priority
in life. However, I must ask you to consider the following. Besides the last weekend of the past cycle which kept you active within the sport's lists, the last time you dueled among the comrades with whom you hold title amongst was the middle of October. No one is asking you to make Swords your highest priority, nor the consuming force of your daily life, however, I must ask you to consider the perception it leaves among the community when a
Baroness of Swords barely steps within the rings enough to remain even an active dueler of the sport. You claim you desire to lead the way in the name of your religion, yet you won't come to the field of battle to show us your prowess to learn by your example. Is that what your savior and your divinty tells you to encourage the spread of your values and way of life? To not participate, to ignore that which you have chosen to be a leader amongst by
title alone? If you are a high standard of example of what your religion represents, how one should be in the community they have thrust themselves into the leadership and then leads by example of non-participation and disdain for the present of the sport, then I must say, I would be very discouraged to offer favor to you or to those of your religion as members of this community. You find it easy enough to write words upon this cork, even easier
still to send another to write words on this cork in your name, yet you can not find it easy enough to come show yourself as a Baroness of Swords within the Arena and in the rings.
As I have come to realize, and as been pointed out to me by a few others, I am now the oldest remaining active duelist from generations of dueler's past, since the end of the reign of the second Overlord of Swords, Falon, I have danced in these rings. With this, by mere default more than anything, I have become an Elder of this sport, and I find myself with the responsiblity of trying to offer guidence in this community. I do not pertend to
be the best role-model, nor the best example of this community, but I realize that even unwillingly my actions and words are watched with scrutiny. As a Baroness of Swords, so are your actions and words, and if this sport holds any value to you then I ask you humbly to consider more active particpation within the rings. If it does not, and you feel you can not offer any more activity than you have shown the past half year, two duels in six months,
then I ask that you consider stepping down from your title so that someone of this community who is active, who desires to lead by example may have the opportunity.

Elijah,
It would be nice if all the Barons and Baronesses were to show up regular like. But it aint yer place to stand in judge and jury on her. If she has committed a crime thats for the officials to decide.
Yer been here a longtime, but that dont make yer right. So, why dont yer just just go fishin and leave off with yer nonesense.

One would expect this response from an illiterate. I would suggest that you find someone sentient to explain to you what the idiom "judge and jury" refers to, and then ask them to go into detail as to how Lord Elijah's comments have nothing to do with proceedings before a court of law.
I realize, Private, that trying to educate you is much like trying to having a gelding stand at stud, yet I must make the attempt. Lord Elijah was not passing judgement; he was expressing his concerns. Were you more capable of grasping the realities of the world around you (as opposed to the one you seem to daydream in), you'd probably have better things to do than essentially telling someone they've got no business expressing their concerns in a
polite manner, as Lord Elijah indeed did.
And people wonder why all the old fogeys won't participate anymore.
Regards,
Ian Rex.

Nobody to blame about the lack of participation from the "fogies" save for the fogies. To truly believe in naming others as the reason makes that person even weaker than the people who stay away from the sport they claim to care about.
You (general you) want to let the newcomers ruin your day and stop you from matching skills, hey... they're the ones who get to participate in the sport. They win.
As a side note... why does Karen want to go for the Overlord title again? As I asked in another note... did God decree this? For one who only serves God, taking a bid for the surpreme dueler sure seems to be an interesting extracurricular activity.

Lady Ganderfald:
The Order of the Knights Templar and the First Catholic Church of RhyDin does not hold the Duel of Swords any higher in priority than any other organization or group under the eyes of The Lord.
The Lady Wilder fights in the Duel of Swords by her own choice and under her own auspices. She serves the Church as one of it's Knights and as a defender of the Faith.
Lord Medici-Giovanni:
I do not believe that the Lord decreed that Lady Wilder challenge for the Mantle of the Overlord. I do not claim to know the mind of God. The Lady's actions and choices in the Duel of Swords are her own as far as I am aware.
Sir Basia-Uhr:
I have copied your letter and will bring it to the Lady Wilder's attention as soon as she returns. Certain of your questions were not discussed between myself and her, so I cannot give you her answers... save one.
The Lady Wilder asked that I, in my capacity as a scribe for the Order, pen what notices and letters might be required. Her reasons for asking this of me are her own.
