Ladys and Gents,

I was asked to witness the duel between Ariadne Angeles and Johnathan Havoick this 20th morning of May.
I did in fact have the opportunity to witness a match between the interceeding Overlord and the renegade Baroness, Karen Wilder.
As expected, Karen defeated Cletus 5-3 in 9 rounds and paved the way for Ariadne to face the Baron.
Their match lasted 11 rounds and in the end, Cory retained his title as Baron of the 7th in a 5-3 victory.
Below are the round by rounds

I would also like to bring to your attention that The Overlord Cletus Ganderfald stood as my Second, while Charlie Jericho was present as my Lady of Honor.

Also, as Cletus had mentioned, I met and talked with him two days prior to the challenge made by the woman. I, in no way, knew of her challenge. Plus, I had no intent of hiding behind the Overlord. I changed my alignment because of actions Cletus took a night before I made my decision (three days before challenge).
The Overlord stepped in on his own to "settle a score," with Ariadne, as he put it. He was given the option and so he did. Simple as that.

So...

The Overlord did not interceed to protect a Loyal Baron... The Overlord did not interceed to prevent an "unworthy" Warlord from becoming a Baron...

The Overlord used his position to try to gain a bit of petty vengence on someone.

That's why I stopped him.

Nicely won, Cory.

Out of curiosity, Karen, did you know he did this to "settle a score" and that's why you tried to stop him? Or did divine intervention allow you to see Cletus' true intent?

Personally, I am disappointed that Cletus would have stepped in, since I always thought he and Magnus shared the same point of view that they believe in a "fair fight" in challenges (this is not to say I feel intercession is unfair, but to my recollection that's how it was regarded by Cletus and Magnus).

Out of curiosity, Cletus; was this a change of heart from a previous stance, a special circumstance, or do I have you and your brother's stances completely confused?

::Her handwriting is much improved, but still recognizable.::

The Overlord stated that he wished to settle a score before he even stepped into the ring.

Your derisive words towards myself, my Faith and the Lord puzzle me, Medici-Giovanni. I can recall no action I took against you or yours that could have caused your attitude towards me.

I bear you no ill will and fail to see the reasons for your ill will towards me.

But then, that seems to be indicative of so many these days.

I have no problem with your faith or the Lord, Karen. I believe in God as well. My issue is with you, and admittedly my comment about divine intervention giving you foresight was a bit out of line.
To be honest, there's little that you have said on the boards that has earned respect from me. Since I don't know you on a personal level, that leaves me with giving you the benefit of the doubt. However, why should I give you that benefit? To me, you just look like someone holding a title for the sake of personal pride while not caring one iota what happens to the community or the duelists within.
To any normal person, I could almost understand and not have as big as an issue as with you. They're out for personal glory, enjoy the sport, etc. However, as I am one who believes in God, and I thought you servants were supposed to be humble and representive of self-righteousness - you display self indulgence and self glorification on a level that has this bug nagging me to change religions.
Then again, I've been feeling a little jaded about some people in the Arena. Either way, you have given me no reason to like you as a person.

Karen,

For someone that recently wrote, and I quote directly:

<<Well.

I's never looked fer respect, that's nae why I duel.

I once worked hard fer people tae like me, but I don't worry about that nae more.

I duel fer me.
>>

You seem to have improved your language skills considerably in just mere days.

I suppose you and Sneggle have gone to the same school of lies and deceit that would have others believe your attitude is an extension of your supposed lack of literacy.

Perhaps you should begin using "yer" as a symbol of your not-so-secret obstinacy to admit you do, in fact, know how to read and write above the level of a four year old.

I in no way support intercession. Therefore, I did not agree with my brother's decision and refused to show up for the match.

Ellisa,

Yer have a problem with how people speak? That might be called...hmmm....snobbyness? I know me letters, and I aint never plotted against nobody. Them what I dont like know it. But I aint never turned no one down who wanted to fight in the rings, nor have I ignored a request to fight. Can yer say the same?

I must be doing somethin right to be lumped in the same breath as Karen Wilder. So, I thank yer for that.

... No, that's just too easy of an opening Snuggle left. I just wouldn't feel right taking advantage of it.

Private,

Would be so kind as to explain to us what makes fighting at every opportunity -- except, apparently, those opportunities which would let you develop the qualifications to challenge Cassius -- a noble endeavour?

I can think of multitudes of situations where I would be sorely disappointed to hear that Captain Morgan chose to fight rather than do something more sensible. On the other hand, I seriously doubt that I would ever be disappointed with the Captain, seeing as how she is a lady of inestimable worth.

And she's literate.

Ian,

I fight as much as I have the time for, nothin has changed there. Me duties at the Authority eat into what time I have. Yer above all people should know that with rank comes more duty.

Yer have yer opinion of Ellisa, I have mine. they aint the same.

I don't see nothin noble about Cas other than he is a good fighter. He has been one of them gadflys and sooner or later we will meet. I figure he wont meet me headon in a challenge fer his ring. He will get someone to intercede on his behalf so I will have to fight a "champion". It may well be yer. So, when I am ready I will do the letter writin and postin and than see what happens.

One other thing. What I value is the friendship of a handful of people and fightin in the rings. I aint that much different than yer, but none of yer seem to want to understand that.

Politely,

Sgt Sneggle

Certainly doesn't value the knowledge of how the rules work, that's for sure.

::She tacks her latest note directly below Ellisa's... her handwriting a tad sloppier, as if she was hurried.::

And here's another that attacks me for no reason I ken.

When I'm in a hurry, I don't write so well. When I want to get a point across, I take my time and get help from my friend and teacher, Father Dominic.
