Battle of The Sexes

Patrons of the Duel of Swords,

I have recently been considering the state of the duels these days, and I have been watching the mind-set of the duelers present in the arena (including myself). What I have seen, is that dueling is not so much an enjoyable sport anymore as it is a constant competition. While I can argue that this is both a good and a bad thing, it is still what I believe to be true. As a result of this and the current popularity of the team duels, I have
decided to put together what I believe will be an enjoyable challenge event. Something that people can watch and enjoy without the need for someone to put their title on the line. I thought that the best way to do this would be to pit some of the best females duelists against a team of some of the best male duelists. I contacted Baroness Adeena Maeax, and we have gathered our teams and will be holding the first Duel of Swords Battle of the Sexes
sometime in the near future. The whole point of this event is to make it an enjoyable evening for everyone, so I implore you, when we schedule this event, please attend it. The teams are as follows:
Men: Myself, Jeffrey Oakenshield, Ulath Fici, Xenograg kathu-Darelir, and Nova Grey Shadow
Women: Adeena Maeax, Luthien Tinuviel, Kaprielle d'Argent, Ellisa Morgan, and Alais d'Nitesong

I will make another post when the matches are set up and the date and time has been arranged. Thank you, hope to see you all there.

Overlord of the Duel of Swords
Lord of the Dale

He chuckles reading the post, and wanders off, thinking this could definetly be interesting.

:::looks over the original, then the replies:::

Well Dal, seems you can't please all the people all the time !
I shall be there to watch for this is truly going to be a fun event. Those with ruffled feathers, well what can I say. Thanks for at least trying to stimulate a little light hearted fun.

::blissfully ignoring the paper trail argument taking place underneath the post, setting his own missive off to the side: "Three to one odds favor the ladies taking over all victory, individual odds to be made based on monetary support of ugly merchandise for said match: Perechon industries to cover all bets under 50 gold. (per-person) "Fifteen to one odds favor Dalamar getting his feelings hurt again before the event is over."

:::pens a quick note beneath the Overlord's:::

Now wait a minute, Dal...

I'm hurt! I know I'm not considered one of the best duelists, but I definately considered male--and I challenge anyone to disagree with me on this point. Plus, you know this event has my name written all over it! Sheesh... At least promise me I'll be allocated a position in the next battle of the sexes...I'd say this is the least you could do.

Sheesh again,

::scribbles a reply:: Battle of the sexes. A constant competition. All well and good opinions or ideas....but don't the teams seem to be just another throwback to the "good old days"? Ten people who seem to have been around forever fighting for the entertainment of the wet-behind-the-ears beginners who still crowd the precious arena? You'll excuse me if I'm a little rabid over this. It's the imperialist upper-class mindset that gets under my skin. Admittedly these ten duelers are very skilled, definitely worthy of their spots in this event. But as far as I see, they were just handpicked by the Overlord and Adeena, and no one else who might have liked to duel could even say anything...unlike our team dueling now where anyone feels they can at least form their own team if they want to. I'm not mad for myself. I'm fully aware of the fact that it would be insane for me to be picked as one of the five best female duelers. Still...this would sit a lot easier with me if it had been something that, hypothetically, anyone could do....if you and Adeena had held signups and picked the best, for example. ~Ally St. Reynolds

::reading over people's responses, shaking his head sadly and rewriting a few of Dal's words upon a new sheet of paper::"What I have seen, is that dueling is not so much an enjoyable sport anymore as it is a constant competition.""Something that people can watch and enjoy without the need for someone to put their title on the line."Get over yourselves, people. Allow me to reitterate, perhaps it was not clear enough in Dal's announcement: THIS IS FOR FUN. I would not have agreed to come back for this if it were not. Frankly, the annoyance that the rest of the arena was overlooked sickens me. This is the entire reason I retired. If you would like to watch this, if you think it will be fun: Show up. If you're upset because you didn't get picked, don't bother showing since it seems you're incapable of watching *and* having fun without actually being a participant (that's even if you have fun when you are participating, it seems like a lot of people forget to have fun unless they end up winning). Maybe you should choose the entire Arena next time, Dalamar. Let's see how quickly we can get some two hundred Battle of Sexes duels done. If we start now, perhaps we'll be done by the new year. If we want everyone to have fun, seems we're going to have to make sure no one is left out from the actual dueling.Tired,Nova Grey Shadow::walking away, seriously considering giving up completely upon the Arena entire::

Apparently if everyone is to have fun in this they not only have to duel.... they have to win as well.

Ta Ally and anyone else dat's mad....

Why don't you set up yer own competition with your own team of females or males if ya wanna do dis so bad? Dalamar and Adeena merely got tagether, picked teams, and announced it so anyone dat WANTED ta watch could, so everyone can enjoy da FUN.

If you long ta be in such a competion, grab 4 females and ask 5 guys ta duel. We didn't say you couldn't get teams tagether, Dal never said "Dis is da other Battle of da Sexes duel dat can ever happen". Before ya all freak out, try and come up with a solution ta yer gripe, rather dan complain ta da rest of us. Danks fer listenin'....
