A speech

My fellow RhyDinians,

Now is the winter of our discontent....oops, wrong speech.

Allow me please, to take a bit of time, and speak to each of you regarding the state of our union, or our DoS to be correct.

Though I did not seek this station to prove myself, nor for glory. I truly hoped that were I ever in this position, I could give back to the community, a bit of what was given to me.
Looking over the arena's vast expanse, I am saddened by the sparse gatherings where once before, an empty table could not be found.
A cavern near empty where a stout man once had to shoulder his way through the door just to gain entry. A place where patrons were thrown out to make room for the callers as well.
Where have they gone you ask? Well I do. Where have they gone?

The past glory of the Duel of Swords aside, we as a whole, need to address this current state of affairs. I wish to begin by thanking each and every duelist that braves the elements to arrive each week, those who without fail, come and represent their houses, their baronies, yes even themselves, for without those faithful patrons of the arena, we would be no more.
Those folks are the ones whose imput, efforts and time are needed.

The current administration has retained a press secretary who will be releasing plans to you, the members of the community. He will be detailing the ideas which have been bouncing about another vast cavern which is my own mind. I ask each of you to consider the ideas brought forth and try to participate in each venue offered you.

We are far from dead here in the DoS, we have overcome the worst upset ever to befall the Duel of Swords. I say now, the future is ours to make. Join with me, and make it as glorious as it ever was.

Thank you,

Seamus

::Aja reads over Seamus's missive and smiles a bit sadly and adds her own::

You are more than correct, Sir.
Perhaps we should contact the RhyDin Post Office to see where all have gotten off to?
Or at the very least, attempt to teach via example?
I've been making attempts to return to that very arena myself, and have been surprised by it's sparse patronage. Hopefully word will go out that we still dare to hope for those days not so long ago, when poor Hubie could barely keep up due to the bar being so full.

Here's to seeing you.

Personally, I miss the days of enjoyable practice duels during the off hours. If that old camraderie would return-both in and out of the duels-I would gladly return.

Here is to learning about Rhydin, though! Woo boy...

In order to practice dueling in the off hours..

One needs to be present in the offhours to do so.

Lots of "If" and "When" and "I remember" and "We need" sorts of talk.

I honestly wish I had the time and patience to devote my free time to simply the duels. I do when I can, and am around when I can. I just have other things.

Sure, it'd be nice to show up and all. But I think what's on everyone's mind is "Why show up if noone is there?"

So, how do we get them there? Seamus is trying, he's taking steps to regain interest and bring back people to the duels. He can't do it alone.

He took the first step, the next steps need to be taken by the rest of us.

Will we?

I will whenever I can.

You've got a good point, G. I remember when I first started here, I would be in many a time during the off-hours to duel or to call practice duels.

If there are people who say they will show up during the off-hours, I might show up as well. I won't plan to officiate any practice duels though. I already try as hard as I can to call the official duels. A little bit of dueling seems more appealing, if given the choice.

So who else is going to show up?

I pop on and off all day long. I'll start checking to see if people are wanting to practice. I might even call a few!

::reading the missives tacked to the board, then adding his own to the pile::

I tend to be in and out of the area most of each evening. If one feels to have their lackeys look for me...I could be very interested in practice of any type...

Sadly, off-hours dueling has been mostly outside of my schedule, lately. However, I try to show up for scheduled duels whenever I can. But when I go there, and see no one I know--that often including the callers--I usually leave, unless particularly motivated simply to have a duel. Certainly, an unfortunate state of affairs.

Then get to know people.
