::Dressed in somewhat bedraggled white gown, the young woman approaches the board and tacks a note on it, then sleepily saunters off to her bed::

Ladies, Gentlemen, and All Else,

I have this Fourteenth of October been privileged to witness and officiate at yet another challenge, this one against Overlord Seamus MacDonnaugh. The challenge was pressed by Baron Xericmues. The Overlord responded by having his champion, Cassius Gaius Maximus, fight in his stead. To this action, the Baron responded by calling forth a champion of his own - Lorance (Sgt Sneggle). However, the matter was further complicated as G'nort
excercised his
right to intercede. Hence, the first match ended up thus: Cassius versus G'nort, the former standing in for the Overlord, the latter standing in for the Baron.

The first duel was closely matched; both Cassius and G'nort dueled their best and kept the match close throughout. However, it was Cassius who took it, six to five in eleven rounds.

The loss of his champion meant the Baron would now have to duel Cassius, and so he did. Cassius opened strong, and kept it up all the way through to win it five to two in seven rounds.

At this point Cassius wished to exercise his right to challenge further for the Baron's ring, and it was agreed upon by all parties to do so, and further, to hold the match there and then as all parties were available.

The first four rounds of this first of the best-of-three challenge matches was decidedly Cassius'. However, just after the fourth round, the Baron disappeared, as well as his second, Face. By Cassius' wish, the duelists were given an extended period of time to return. Moments before this alloted time was up, Face reappeared in the Arena, and agreed to finish Xeric's duels should he not return. With that affair cleared up, the duel resumed,
and though Face made a valiant effort, Cassius still took the duel, five to four in eight rounds.

As the second duel of Cassius' challenge began, the Baron was still absent, and Face agreed to fight in his place once more. Though his strength must have been flagging and he was covered in sweat from fighting - and winning - three straight duels prior, Cassius dominated this last one utterly, taking it - and the Eighth - home, five to one in eight rounds.

Cassius declared himself Loyal to the Overlord.

Firstly, I admit that I am very glad to see both of the results of Xeric's challenge. I am very glad that he was never able to step into the ring with the Overlord, something he was entirely unfit to do. I even happier to see him deprived of a Baron's ring, which he was also thoroughly unfit to hold and which he had shown by his behaviour.
I am very impressed by Gaius Cassius's fine dueling. I had, honestly, not thought that he was up to winning four duels in a row, some of them under difficult circumstances, so soon after his return from retirement. Despite the comments of some spectators that the matches were not worth leaving home for, the fact is that the deed was very impressive. First, a 6-5 victory over a very tough opponent was followed by a dominating win over a Baron. This
was followed by two more wins, one of them despite a mid-duel change of opponents. I, for one, was happy to be witness to such a display.

::Reading the official notice, he stands wondering what G was thinking.
Had their friendship meant so little? After walking away puzzled, he comes to the realization, their relationship was not the issue at all. It had to be something far deeper. After weighing the alternative results to the challenge, the light comes on in his head. Had Xeric's champion been successful, and had Xeric faced and defeated him, the Sarge would be gifted the ring. Knowing G's feeling for Guilds, as well as his love for the DoS, G must have
done it to prevent such an atrocity from occuring. returning to the cork, he posts a small note:::

Gnort, well done

Cas,
I am very grateful for you valiant efforts last eve. I am impressed that yur four straight wins over the Barons, and the second surpass those duels fought by Jeff Oakenshield.
Your name will live on in our History with a record that will difficult to equal.
You alignment to loyal is as well appreciated and graciously accepted
If I am ever able to repay the effort, my blade is yours

Seamus,

Just to clarify a few things. I am not a member of Galadrim. I do not easily join any group for I have found over time that they become limiting. Nor am I a member of any group organized or not .

I agreed to fight for Xeric if you decided he was to be challenged. Xeric and I are friends and surely you above all people know that a person should support their friends.

I respect you as a person of honor and sincerely hope that your Overlordship of the DoS will be a long and eventful one.

Between Xeric and I there was never any discussion of a ring of any kind. Even if, in the unlikely event fate rolled out a scenario such as you describe I would not have accepted any ring.

I will eventually earn my Baron's ring by challenge, or WL tournament. Then it will be mine and I will have no real or imagined debt to anyone.

I applaud Cas for a gallant effort on your behalf.

G did what he thought was the right thing for him to do and I have no fault with that.

I do love the DoS. I have and will continue to work to support the vision I have of the DoS as a place where all, under the brotherhood of the sword can perfect their skills and rise and fall as their skills dictate.

Lorance...

What the hell are you talking about? He never said anything to you regarding you joining groups...

Perhaps elaborate on your totally pointless missive?

You know, I've been thinking. Something about last night doesn't seem right to me. First of all, I'm wondering why the Overlord is saying well done to a Renegade Baron who stepped in against his champion and lost.

I'm also wondering why Gnort bothered to support Xeric at all. What was the motive for stepping in?

So now. Putting those two things together... something doesn't feel right.

So. Questions. Gnort, why did you step in for Xeric? Seamus, why did you say "well done" to Gnort?

For the Drama, and so that at least one respectable person could be on the side challenging for the crown, so to speak.

Had it been just Snegs and Xeric, it would have just been morons. I figure that if I stepped in, aside from enjoying the total drama of the situation, that it could be said someone respectable was on that side, and it wouldn't be a total loss.

I can't speak for Seamus, but if I were him, I'd be pissed at me.

Math equation.

Sneggle + Xeric = Idiots challenging for crown.

Gnort + Xeric - Sneggle = At least one decent person challenging for crown, and challenge not a total waste.

Who is the one to say you're decent, G?

And besides, you even claimed it in the Arena as a "selfish" act. Whether you were saying that as a joke or not, I believe that is the true case. Not that I care either, I'd just like to hear it explicitly.

Me.

And yes, it was a selfish act. All for the drama.

The decency thing was a good touch, I thought.

Ah well.

Boxer boy,
I suppose if I were inclined to put my thoughts to paper, I would have to say the following.
After weighing the alternative results to the challenge, I asked myself, why G would step in for Xeric and came to this conclusion.Had Xeric's champion been successful, and had Xeric faced and defeated me. the Sarge would be gifted the ring. Knowing G's feeling for Guilds, as well as his love for the DoS, G must have done it to prevent such an atrocity from occuring.
Therefore, I thought this was a deed done for the DoS, and done well

I think its funny. G, go get 'em, obviously, giving Xeric a chance in the duel. Doing just that gave him a small chance, a noble act, I salute you.
