From my quiet repose in the wilderness, I look upon these matters, and it occurs to me that factionalism strikes these halls even moreso than in the days when people proudly wore badges denoting their affiliations.
Rather sad in a way.
Were I not so disinclined to soil my hands with these matters any longer, I might be hard-pressed to resist the urge to gather the Amethyst Ring once again. Of course, then I simply recall how little use the bickering peasantry seems to have for anything which clearly seeks to serve the greater good, and the urge passes.
Seamus, just fight the lad. That you're testing him personally offends me.
Rix, just fight. I know that among the lessons you've likely learned from me is the art of the pen, but I'd ask you to note that when it was my blade on the line, I simply kept silent and prepared myself for the battle.

It's no surprise to me to see the state of the dueling community still is at par with a child daycare center. At one time I would have been tempted to say something, challenge someone, offer my blade, or in some other way feel compelled to be involved, but....however...I really see no point anymore. Caring about this place and what happens in it anymore is like trying to stop the cat from scratching the new
piece of furniture till you finally accept the fact that it's all ready become like the piece you just replaced. It used to be your favorite one to get in and snuggle with your loved one, now you throw a sheet over it and don't care so much if your friend spills a beer on it.
For awhile it seemed this place had hope again, but now it seems that was just the calm before the storm before the apocalypse was unleashed. The way I read comments on this cork now seems just blatanly more nasty and filled with disrespectful attitude then ever before. Since I returned to dueling again for the league season, I was thinking about maybe swinging by here, it appears though it would be a waste of my time and I don't see how I
would enjoy it.
Does it really matter anymore who gets their turn with the Overlord Crown or who's passing which Baron ring to the next around here? Pretty much none of the titles have any value or respect left in them for anyone to really care or honor them as they should be. Some people might have genuinine interest, respect, and honor for the titles, but either they or those they know have issue with them or others that their opinion and actions will
always be overly scrutinized for fault to garner the snide comments about to draw negative attention away from themselves to a rival.
Personally, get rid of all the ranks, the titles, and just duel Take away all the rights and priviledges of rank and title, and just duel. If you really wanna see how you do against others, then list everyone by percentage of wins, and that's about all the bragging rights you have. Level the playing field, take away the venue of placing one above the other, and just go back to the purity of the duel among comrades.

This constant living in the past and reminiscening about how it "once was" serves no real purpose. Time has moved on and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
From my perspective most of the complaining, and moaning and groaning is pretty much confined to a fairly small group of people no longer representative of the DoS.
I admire the Baronial Rings. I want one and eventually I will fight my way into getting one. Then more than likely I will be mowed down by someone else who wants the ring. That's life, that's the way it is in the here and now.
As for getting rid of the ranks, titles, that would be disastorous. We compete and we compete for advancement, with this advancement comes pride of possession.
The rings have value, if you have one someone else wants it. If your good you get to keep it for awhile. But, there is no gaurantee.
I for one love the DoS. It is my home and will continue to be so for sometime to come. I am convinced that if I currently had a Barons ring, which I do not you would be among the first to challenge me for it.
