Baron Magnus Eques,

        I hereby challenge you for the right to wear the second baronial ring of the Duel of Swords. I am of the belief that the titles are meant to serve as a test of skill, not as a venue for trite grudges or abstract considerations of political and moral worth. To make it quite clear, I bear no malice or ill-will towards you, and no such motive rests behind my challenge. I am familiar with your prowess as a baron and as a master swordsman, and I
expect only to enjoy a challenging and honorable match with one of the most skilled duelists currently active in these hallowed halls.
    I sincerely hope that you will regard this challenge with the same respect and love of sport that inspired it, and I look forward to meeting you in the rings. May this missive find you in good health and good spirits. I eagerly await your response.
