I see it's time to defend myself against idiocy....
"So...
First th' Roman's too afraid tae challenge me himself an' gets someone
else tae do it."
Elijah approached me with a wager that was completely one-sided in favor of myself. It was the Welshman who set those one-sided terms. I was not going to turn down a potentially useful situation. Since I would not use anyone else's sword to enact vendetta on those I would enact vendetta against myself, I decided to use what had fallen into my proverbial lap for political purposes. When he refused to challenge the first Renegade I wanted to him to
challenge, I needed to find someone else. Unagi and G'nort are my friends and have my respect, and Var was not an option, for the reasons I state above. You were the only choice, Karen. While I am certainly not sad to see you deposed, I had no burning, obsessive desire to make it happen.
And for the record, as for the first Baron that Elijah refused to challenge, I did indeed challenge him myself shortly thereafter.
"Now he's too afraid tae defend his own Ring, especially since he's made sure
thet I won't be able tae interceed on th' Challenger's behalf."
So you really believe that I had Elijah challenge you out of fear that you would thwart the Overlord in any Intercession I may request? Such blind arrogance smears the name of your Church. There will be others that may step up. As for fear? Of Lorance Sneggle? Read the histories. He pitted his skills against mine before, and he failed. Why should ten easily acquired peer wins give him the automatic right to try again, without an obstacle? Should
he recieve free shots until the End of Time until he finally gets it right?
When I beat Magnus, I won the duty to protect the legacy of the Second from those who would dishonor it, as well the right to make the subjective decision on who that might be. Your arguments can be as valid or invalid as you can make them, but all that matters is that I have the right. If you don't like it, issue challenge.
"Ifin it were nae fer a promise I made, I's'd be workin' tae challenge 'im
m'self.
Lady Karen Wilder
Knight Templar"
This as as good a time as any to announce my personal policy on the Intercession, being that I am Loyal to an Overlord who is known to allow them. There are only two Warlords currently active in the Arena who I will request Intercession upon, and I happened to recieve challenge from one of them. The other is a Baron at this time.
Anyone else, I will not make the request. I cannot stop Lord Ar'Daumon from stepping in against anyone he wishes to, but I can assure you that I will not make the request, and would in fact request that the Overlord not step in should he make a move to in such a hypothetical situation.
Now, Ms. Wilder, I'm interested in hearing of your vow. Because from where I stand, it sounds like you are making "cowardly excuses" yourself.

Now I'm confused...
"Since I would not use anyone else's sword to enact vendetta on those I would enact vendetta against myself, I decided to use what had fallen into my proverbial lap for political purposes."
Followed by:
"When he refused to challenge the first Renegade I wanted to him to

So you wanted to send E against a baron you didn't have a vendetta yourself with, which is why you didn't send him against me... yet when he turns down the baron you initially tell him to challenge, you challenge that baron you claim to have no vendetta against and don't challenge me?
Please explain, because from how I'm reading it... You're saying you would not send someone else to handle your own vendettas. So you send E against Magnus. E says no about Magnus. You send E to Karen. For one who has an issue with a current baron whom you would have Dalamar test, you don't challenge that baron, and instead challenge someone whom you claim by your logic, you have no personal vendetta?
For one who seems righteous in using Dalamar to fight in your stead to make it as hard for someone unworthy to gain the title, it certainly sounds like your original intent was to have E fight your own battle.
Then again, things like this is why I don't tell people who to challenge in the first place.

As it stands, I have no burning vendetta against you, Karen, or Magnus. But the problem with having E challenge you is one of image, and what it would feel like to me.

Yes. Because I did not challenge Magnus out of vendetta, I challenged him out of politics and the chance to try again at a Baron whose skill with the blade I have always respected, and still do respect. As for the Baron whom I would test, I have already taken a ring from him twice. Doesn't it seem rather redundant to hit that nail again?
" For one who seems righteous in using Dalamar to fight in your stead to

If I am not being properly self-righteous, please tell me what I am doing wrong and give me some tips. After all, none are as skilled at it as you.
"it certainly sounds like your original intent was to have E fight your own
battle."
You know, I don't think I could have been clearer in my last missive on the cork about this. Of course I used Elijah to further my goals. That is the penalty he pays for losing a wager that he himself came to me with, under auspices and guidelines that he himself set. Certainly, had I lost, he'd have done the same.
But I did not have Elijah fight "my battle". I had him fight another, distant battle that I felt should be done.

Cassius's accounts of how my ending up challenging Karen are true as far as the sequence and the reasons we agreed too. Whatever, Cassius's true motivations and such I can not comment on as I would not know his mind nor want too. It was a bet, I lost, I had to pay up. Dal was nice enough to do me a favor so I wouldn't have to challenge Cas's first choice of Magnus, which was my former TDL teammate who is the
last person I'd want to challenge among the people who were Baron then. Cas agreed and we settled on Karen for the next choice. Heck, I didn't even want to come close to holding one of the 4 additional rings, but I made a comprimse since others were willing too. Personally, I had hoped Mag would have defended against Cas, but I was not so fortunate. Hopefully Lorance will kick his butt though.

Cassius,
I'm going to take a break from this battle of words and wish you good luck in your challenge. Lorance has matured somewhat, but not enough I think. Have him put down quickly, either with Vengeance or your own blade. Also, I hope you see that no matter what you do..someone is going to have a problem with it. Some of them make valid points in this instance, however.
Secondly,
Var is right. I think I've only been challenged once this reign. I've almost been Baron of the First Ring for 2 whole years. This is very upsetting. What haven't I done that Cassius or the others have? Pitiful.

I can certainly see why you are saying your decisions are based on politics now.
First you say:
"Unagi and G'nort are my friends and have my respect, and Var was not an option, for the reasons I state above (and that reason stated was: Since I would not use anyone else's sword to enact vendetta on those I would enact vendetta against myself...)"
Then you say:
"As it stands, I have no burning vendetta against you, Karen, or Magnus. But the problem with having E challenge you is one of image, and what it would feel like to me."
And I know I am not your friend, so perhaps I'm just easily confused. You don't send E after me because you don't want anyone to fight your battles, but you don't have a vendetta against me to begin with. It just feels like it would be if you sent him after me.
I'll be honest, I would be making a few remarks if E did challenge me because you told him to: him for being stupid enough to fight a bet and you for sending someone else to fight your battles. It was still stupid of him and chicken of you to do it, but at the same time don't consider myself a friend of Karen's, and thus, not heartbroken about her being challenged.
However, to continue:
"As for the Baron whom I would test, I have already taken a ring from him twice. Doesn't it seem rather redundant to hit that nail again?"
You're asking someone who has held the same ring six times about redundancy? Anyhow, why not challenge him again? You think he'll start challenging you or something? You'd rather let an unworthy loyal have a ring than a respectable Renegade?
On another note, Cas, you would be crying cowardice like I expect anyone to, if someone sent another warlord out to challenge you. You also passed up two chances to remove an unworthy baron yet at the same time claiming that you are justified in having Dal step in against Lorance for you because he's an unworthy baron.
Well if I am able to attend, I have also written Lorance informing him my blade is there to duel Dal and let his challenge to you go through. A few reasons:
a) my dislike for you is blatantly apparent
b) I see no reason whatsoever for the challenge not to go through, although I do respect the fact that Dal wants to protect a loyal baron
c) I have a respect for someone who's willing to challenge someone he lost to. While I always challenge for the Tenth now because of the sentimental value, it began entirely with me challenging people who beat me before; incidentally, Leto beat me in the Warlord Tourney where he won the 10th ring, and that's how it began.
And yes, I'm self righteous. Thank you for pointing that out.

Me, Daelin, Rix, and Unagi are starting a club.
We are going to be the Evil Meanie Punk Kids who everyone is afraid of because noone will challenge us.
You guys are in trouble now. We'll now begin by taking your milk money. So you'd better have it ready.
This message was made without permission by Rix, Daelin, or Unagi.
Hmm, guess you'd better just give me your milk money.

All,
So the dueling public is informed The Baron of the 10th, QuickVarMG will face the Overlord in the event the Overlord proceeds with intercession request of Baron Cassius Maximus.
I have not heard any comment on either side of this issue from the Overlord so I do not presume to say he will or will not intercede on the behalf of Baron of the Second, Cassius Maximus
Irrespective of the outcome the action of Cassius Maximus on this issue has served to tip the balance in how I regard people to ensure that
I will be a thorn in his side for a long time to come.

All, the challenge match between Baron Cassius Maxim and myself has been rescheduled for 8:00 p.m. this coming Monday eve (April 15, 2002) for those who are interested in such things.
The reason for the rescheduling is the scheduled match between Cletus and Secondat this evening.

Maximius...
I had already sworn tae challenge Verceterix Favre fer his Ring, fer much th' same reasons thet I challenged Ellisa Morgan... That they have/had held Rings fer so long without bein' challenged. Most who know me, know this tae be true. I know I told Baron Favre some time ago thet ifin I lost th' Twelfth thet I'd be comin' tae challenge 'im.
Ifin yer record against Lorrance Sneggle be so good, why then don't ye face him yerself? Why do ye have any desire at all fer th' Overlord tae get involved if yer so confident thet ye can beat th' Warlord?
Sounds like cowardice tae me.
