A little comparison.

::A sheet of college rule paper is tacked to the boards:: Since the great Ulath has taken it apon himself to question my abilities in the ring as well as my reasons for doing this or not doing that, as well as having the gall to outright tell the community I am not as good a dueler as he is, I have prepared a little comparison of facts so the community can judge for themselves. Dark Axe KarnafexxLenght of tenure: Over 4 years Over 3 yearsWins over Losses: 53 86# of OL titles: 1 0# of Overlord Defenses: 0 (?) 5# of Baron rings: 3 2# of baronial defenses: 1(?) 5# of ring abdications: 2 0# of tourneys won 2 2Noteworthy firsts: Karnafexx: 1st warlord to ever defend the overlord successfully (Siera vrs Elijah) 1st warlord to ever win a barons ring without use of fancies 1st baron to ever defend ring without fancies 1st and only baron to ever successfully defend a renegade Que(3 matches) 1st and only warlord to ever turn down tourney prize. (due to Loyalty) 1st and only baron to defend title over three times in two months (4 times) Has defended the overlords title successfully more than any Overlord (With the possible exception of Dalamar, unsure)Ulath Fici: 1st baron to ever forfiet a ring by non participation. 1st baron to ever forfiet two rings by non participation. I'd like to see anyone honestly come out and publically say that I fear to strive for new accomplishments, I always seek new ways to advance the dueling community in general. I always try to push the envelope of skill and tactics as far as I can without need for anyones acceptance. For anyone that cares to listen, I choose not to be overlord for two reasons: (1) I feel that reaching Overlord is the pinnacle of a duelers career. There is nowhere else to go but down. I enjoy the sport too much to do something that will cause me to possibly lose interest. (2) I care for the sport and realize that I am not the role model that newer duelers need in the seat of authority, I go my way and forget the rest...the overlord is adiplomat and politician as well as a dueler...I am not. Another thing about me that irks some and pleases others is my straightforward approach to dealing with people. I tell the plain gritty truth, I have no need to hide behind false exscuses or sugary words. I tell people exactly what I feel and they can take that how they wish. I may not be "nice" all the time but at least when I give my friendship and loyalty it is always there. Ulath, If you can honestly read the above and still consider me a sham then I have no other choice but to pass you off as dim witted. Many people have tried to convince me to take the Overlordship and I always refuse...that is not cowardice, it's keeping my word. When and if I decide to take the title from whoever holds it I will then be in the twilight of my career....as for now I'm just getting started. Dos Community, Forgive me for this blatant bragging session. Sometimes it takes cold hard facts to wake someone up to the reality of what they say. By all means, If you feel I am a sham, a con artist, not as good as I say...please reply here and air it out, I'm an adult and can take criticism. If you think I'm not a sham feell free to speak your mind also...Questrion my set you in the crosshairs but at least you can speak your mind.Signed,William Ray::Posts the note and saunters off into the night muttering::"Ya' can't please everyone...."

::he walks up to Billy's post, paying close attention to the statistics, then ignoring the political stuff. As he looked over the number of Warlord's tournements that Billy had one, a sudden sense of shame overcame him. He had the duel, 4-3! Only one more point was needed! It was terribly disappointing for him to be so close to a shot at Dalamar then not make it. He remembered the final move of the duel, ignorantly low cutting into Billy's awaiting
circular parry. He had been torn between decision--he was about to side step! But no! He had to be the fool and low cut! Skyler lowered his head and walked away, because it was after his lose to Billy that he finally snapped and killed those two people...and he didn't want to think about that now.::

Just hearing the faint familiar mutteting fade away into the night, the commoner pauses at the ancient corkboard, catching sight of Billy's list. Sea blue eyes twinkling, she runs a finger down the list. Snagging the quill hanging on its ribbon, she scribbles on a bit of parchment then tacks it to the cork.Additions Billy Ray Karnafexx Ulath FiciAbandons House in rules dispute: 0 1 Billy, mentor and friend. I was present when ye first set foot upon the ring sands, bragging, strutting, swaggering, drinking Yukon, kicking arse. I gave up counting the time the serving kids have had to reinforce the hinges on the basement door. Anyone too blind to see how much you care about the sport is mayhap imbibing too much of Jake's ale!! As for loyalty and friendship, in all these years I have not witnessed a more honorable, steadfast man, true to hisword and code of honor. Jona.Worst student you ever had.P.S. Blatant bragging session? Ye paid your dues!! Marcus has the credit slip, ye have plenty left. Sham? Isn't that what was covering one of the pillows on the stolen couch? The woman glances around, then runs like mad, her merry laughter ringing out in the night, "Och, Billy, Beauty er Breast, errrr Beast, th' be th' question."

Taking a moment while visiting friends to peruse the message boards, Nova reads over all the petty little arguments with a certain bit of smugness, having known this was all too close when he resigned from the Arena. Stopping over the bragging rights of the self-titled man, he chuckles, grabbing a pen since, as most know, he's unable to resist riding Billy Ray being as the man did the same to him for years.
"Billy,
I've never known you to care so much about your public image. You're either getting soft or the wall is crumbling down, my friend, because, years ago, Ulath's insinuations would have rolled right off your back. We know who you are and what you've done. Ulath knows who you are and what you've done, naturally, he just considers himself better than you. Everyone's entitled to their arrogance and no one's immune to its pull. Not you or I,
certainly not Dalamar (who seems to be the focus of all of these petty debates which seem to be spilling out into the streets of late)... so Ulath is just exercising the braggart within.
You could always challenge him for his Baron's ring if the matter is that much of a dispute... or God forbid, just meet the man within the rings in a normal duel with only bragging rights on the line. I seriously doubt this is a matter for the public eye, and these petty arguments are doing absolutely nothing for the state of the duels you profess to love so much. I know you don't consider yourself much of a role model and you've probably
torn this message off the board before you even got this far since you seem to hate me so much, but, on the slim chance you are reading this: I beg of you, set an example here and now. Don't start letting this stuff bother you now and fling the crap back and forth between the sides... it's not what the Arena needs.
What does the Arena need? God, I don't know. It's why I left... I couldn't stand watching the downward spiral anymore and just sit there, unable to do a damn thing about it.
Happy Holidays, Ho ho ho,
Nova
P.S. I always thought you'd make a good Overlord. When you get there, let me know."
Posting the message beneath Billy Ray's with an unusually large tack, looping a rope around the stable tack and tying the rope to an elaborately wrapped box with a big pink bow on the side, the card reading "To Billy-Ray".
Within the box: a jock strap (why? Just because) and what else? A bottle of Yukon, of course.

((The note crosses over between the Third barons ring thread and this one, so please bear with the hoping back and forth.
))
Gentlemen,
I'd have to say that I disagree with Nova's idea of meeting in the ring for one night, as I do not think the point of any of this was, who could win a single duel. I'd wager either could although *my* money'd be on Karnafexx. The point was (Mine in the 3rd ring thread), it's about track records and history, that was the reason I brought up the forfeit of two baron's rings in the first place. The effort was to point out that although intentions or
support may be worded flowery, I have doubts as to the actions ensuing.
Take a race horse who's been inconsistant over and over and the trainer swears to you he's finally coming around, you as the prospective better may either go with odds or go with the "sure thing/ favorite" a horse who's continually performed at the optimum level. If the horse doesn't show, yep you get your money back, but tell me you're not annoyed a little at the very least. Less money, more money, no money, in the end it's all in the showmanship,
performance, and consistancy. That can and often does change, admittedly.
I have no qualms with Questrion as a house or it's members. Although being loyal I am at odds with them for now and I do not care for certain levels of chivalry that in my mind are lacking from it's representatives. But as mentioned I've often had my own reasons to vow renegade. It takes a lot of "stuff" to have your house stand together against the overlord and loyal barons, it is indeed a statement. Perhaps it is one that was felt wouldn't be
noticed if they stood together alongside the overlord. After all in general the trend does seem to lean Dalamar's way, until recently anyways. Not to mention being able to say that they were as a house renegade against the overlord with the best record thus far, not that that is an issue here. I simply find it amusing is all.
As far as *these two* duelers are concerned, I've always thought Ulath was a very good dueler. I've also always believed Karny is the best dueler with a continuously impressive demonstration of skill and passion. Over the years his presence, opinions and skill haven't wavered. He's proven over and over again that there are few more loyal barons and even less that can back their mouths with their blades. Personally, I find his outspoken-ness far
more refreshing than a hidden agenda anyday.
Gaejin, anyone can get lucky on one night. Add something of interest or go away, testosterone in tow.

Petty? Sometimes when yer bein' "'Riden" hard son, ya' gotta answer. I ain't much fer one on one. I don't find defendin' yerself petty in the least, Maybe if ya' defended yerself more often...well, ferget that. Like I said though, I'm a simple minded person...I go striaghtforward with life and don't take many detours. The best way I know ta' solve somethin' is ta' hit it on the head, I believe pure blatant brute strenght solves more problems
than people think.
As fer challengin' Ulath...good idea. Althought ya' sayyer sick of the politics, ya' gotta know that if I did challenge it would be fer political reasons....... Then again, the sport has survived a hell of alot worse political; scandals than me wantin' a group of old men ta' fall on their arses. It's a good plan but I think the scope needs ta' be widened...possibly all renegade Questrions should be targeted.
Thanks fer this wonderful can of political worms Nova.
