On this night the 19th day of the 10th month I was honored to stand upon the Battlefield and witness a challenge for the 5th Ring.

The challenge did come from the Isle of Covington in the form of their much loved King, Duke Leto. He was accompanied by his friend and advisor the Lord Kingphich who served as his second. His lady of honor was the beautiful Lady Briennan Calendrian. He fought under his colors of Red inlaid on a black field and trimmed with Gold. He came to the ring to honor the Lady Breannan Alicia O'Quin, and bore his legendary blade the Longsword of CoV.

The Baron Errol Excalibur Faline did come to the ring alone the lady he would have as second and as his lady of honor having abandoned him. In a move of honor ShadowHawk a mage who doth claim friendship to the King of Covington and serves as his high mage did step foreward into the corner of the Baron. The Baron Faline fought under the color of Earhen Brown, and wielded a plain short sword.

The match did go as follows

Rd Excalibur Leto Score
===== ======== ======= =====
1 FSS FDU 0-0
2 FLP SL 0-1
3 TH HC 1-1
4 LC FDU 2-1
5 HC TH 2-2
6 LC LC 2-2
7 FDU TH 2-3
8 SL FSS 2-4
9 TH LC 3-4
10 FDU HC 4-4
11 FSS TH 5-4

Thus the Baron Errol Excalibur Faline did retain the right to wear the 5th ring.

Thus placed on my seal,

Mathias DeWinter

The commoner pauses at the ancient corkboard, takes up a quill left conveniently hanging by a ribbon and pens a short note.

Baron Errol Faline, a fine defense, honorable and worthy of a Baron.

M'Lord Leto Covington, honorably attempted, indeed.
The courtesy shown by thee and the Baron as well as that of Shadow Hawk does honor to the sport and community.

Jona.

Meanwhile, Marcus giggles as Edmund sends Al and Hubie off to the Rhydin Medical Center to deliver the letter of credit in the amount of one million platinum drawn on the treasury of Covington on behalf of Duke Leto Covington. Edmund swats at Al and Hubie for gambling then docks the serving kids pay. Al and Hubie yelp dashing out the basement door to make their delivery. Nemo drops another dish in the kitchen.

:: After the latest defense he realized how lucky he had really been, always proposing that skill was the determining factor when he knew inside that luck was really the influence that had kept him a Baron. His condition was indeed worsening, none really aware except maybe Sidartha who attended him after the last match and Jonalyn who was always observant of things around her. Earlier this year in the Arena when he had suffered attacks he normally
used a liquid to get him through the match. Later it was not working but having met with Doctors back home they gave him strange white pills to help him keep his stamina through exertion and to bypass the pain that he felt occasionally. It had seemed enough until.... until he was shot by an unnamed assailant after his match with the former Baron Gnort Dragoon. Since then he failed and fatigued far earlier in matches. Fortunately the match with Sartan
was quick enough but in the late stages against the Lord of Covington he was in trouble. Scrambling to recover he took a pill mid match but it was not enough. As luck had it, he stumbled forward, the thrust catching the low cut before he collapsed BENEATH the reversing high cut of Leto's. The two "lucky" points being enough to tie the match. As the man named Hawk, who had offerred to serve as a second to Errol, helped him out of the ring, Errol
gasped for water and worked on getting ready to resume. In a gamble Errol stepped away from the thrust and weakneed, lucky and all that remained a Baron. It wasnt long before news of yet another challenge loomed on the horizon. Hopefully he could get himself well in time. ::
