Pondering and....Decision?

Steve sat in his home, much like any other day. Spending his holiday in the RhyDin area instead of visiting his family, he had much time to think about what was happening over the past couple weeks. So much had happened in the community of DoS that could effect him if he wanted it to, but in the back of his mind, he knew it really meant nothing.

Turmoil in Questrion. Questrion turns renegade against Dalamar. Members of the Questrion Silver dueling team remove themselves from the house and sign up new members. The coincidence that the "ex-patriates" were from the same Questrion Dueling Team did not strike Steve as odd, but was odd was their immediate addition of the thought-dead Duke Adonai Uziel.

However, with all this happening, how, and why, should Steve respond? Was he a member of Questrion merely because he was invited to be a member of their dueling team? Huma seemed to enter the house in the same way, but Steve felt different. He felt no connection to members of Questrion outside his team, and very little most of the members anyways. Coupled with the facts that Questrion had turned renegade, aligning themselves with his own
thoughts, and that half of Questrion left, he began to feel closer to Questrion, but what to do about it?

The Overlord Challenge. Topaz Eludes challenge of Dalamar finally comes to end. Steve had been waiting for it to be fought, to help him decide what course of action to take. Would he help what could be his house-mates and challenge one of Dal's Loyal Barons, hoping in case of intercession that one of the renegade Questrions would come to his aid? Or would he challenge the Overlord directly? Or would he do nothing at all, as he has done for the
last few months?

Sitting and thinking for hours upon end, Steve was no closer to a decision. Following his present course of lack of action, and telling no one of his troubles seemed to be the best action. Why try to fix a wrong that may not be? People may then wonder what exactly is going on with him. Steve harkened back to his last challenge, still trying to remember what had happened to him in the 3-4 weeks after the challenge. He thought any attempt to
replicate the situation may trigger another such event to take place, and therefore should be avoided.

Thinking for too long can be hazardous to the mind, especially for someone who went through mental traumas like Steve has had in his 10 months in RhyDin, along with all his blows to the head from DoF. Steve suddenly convulsed, and fell from his chair, falling quickly to the ground. Fortunately, his experience from DoF re-paid itself, and his oft-injured shoudlers cushioned the blow with the ground, preventing more serious damage to Steve's head.
His head landed softly on the ground, and Steve lay there, unconcious, no one to attend to him.....

((TBC? Good question. You'll find out, won't you?))

He fully recovered from his concussion with no apparent long-term effects, but Steve knew there was something wrong with his mind. He had to be acting normal, as no one had ever said anything to him, but still, something had to be wrong. He had not ever heard of anyone having a concussion from thinking, or even a concussion without treatment that the victim recovered from. There was much to contemplate, but Steve was being careful. Hehad to be careful. Falling unconciously was not his favorite experience, and there was no guarantee that if it happened again he would still be ok.His position in Questrion no less apparent, every day he felt even more closely connected to them. Not that the house itself had need of him, but he felt the same way that the house did. The challenge to Moralitor was not fully known to the community yet, but still he had to wonder about it. Challenges coming to renegade Barons before they are eligible to make their own challenge to the Overlord. Perhaps there is need of renegade Barons to notdeclare intent to challenge before doing so. Perhaps a Warlord would need to do it instead...Stopping to gather himself before his mind fried, he took a couple swallows of the glass of water sitting next to him. Feeling refreshed, he lay there for a few minutes, doing nothing before continuing his thought.Questrion would most likely support any challenge he would make, but still.....he knew he would not be able to win a challenge against any of Dalamar's loyal barons, or against Dalamar himself. He would normally have challenged at the turn of the cycle a month ago, but his uneasiness about going against Dalamar prevented him from doing so. He felt content to wait it out. Perhaps he could throw out a challenge to anyone defeating a member ofQuestrion. Perhaps he could just retire and disappear from RhyDin. Perhaps he could just sit as Warlord forever as many Warlords do.The thinking getting to his mind again, Steve stopped and finished off his water. He turned, got up, and stared outside to the snowy streets. He looked back into his the main room of his small dwelling, the burning fire, the couple rickety chairs, table, and his one fine chair he always sat in. He knew this wasn't the dwelling of a Baron or Overlord. Certainly, he could return to his place of birth, to his land holdings in the country, but wouldhe be content there? In the busy town of RhyDin, in his humble dwelling, participating in two sports he enjoyed and was fairly skilled at, he was content, or as content as he could be. But he asked himself, could I be more content? What could I do to acheive it? His only answer was that if it could get any better, he knew not how to acheive it. But he knew that attempting to grab himself a title was not the answer. Feeling a bit woozy, Steve went off to bed, to try to sleep off whatever effected him. There were no duels scheduled until Thursday, DoF closed this Wednesday, so he had much time to rest....

It had continued at Friday night's match against Atrebla, his own duel against Mathias. It was so obvious, Steve sould feel it rattling him as he struck the final blow with his blade to give himself and Questrion the win. But he had yet to find out what it was. A mere 12 round duel, with some a few breaks between some rounds, had left him wore out. Three glasses of water downed in the minute after the completion of the duel had him feel better
physically, but mentally he did not feel any better than he had in the last week. The fact that he became the only member of Questrion to cheer on Ulath certainly did not make it better. The matches were wrenching at his insides, and some rounds would appear to go one way but end up the other.

Externally, he tried to not show it, and doubted anyone ever noticed what internal, mental anguish he was going through. It wasn't a incessant headache, or any other chronic pain, or anything else Steve could feel physically. If asked to describe it, there would be nothing he could say except: "I feel terrible...". And that he did.

Returning home after the matches, Steve drank a few more glasses of water hoping, like some drink alcohol, that perhaps his troubles would be washed away. Laying on his bed to think, he began to recall the troubles Questrion was having in DoS. Questrion was in the tank. No one liked them any more after they turned renegade. But why was that? The Overlord was a self-serving hypocrite. He took the crown away from someone just like himself,
presumably on the pretense that he would be different. But now it appears it was just to have the crown, and to hold DoS in the palm of his hand. Does no one else realize that Questrion was right? Or is it that they are so cowardly that they wish to not stand up against the oppression? It was unthinkable that anyone could enjoy having the Overlord so tightly reign in the rest of the Barons. But perhaps the Overlord was changing to help get
public support with his failure to use a "test of worthiness" on his latest challenger. But perhaps it was just that he was confident enough to be able to beat the challenger with no help.

As the questions, answers and other comments rattled quickly through Steve's mind, he could do nothing except let them flow. He had no control over what he thought about. Attempts to think about the up-coming Diamond Quest, which he had recently qualified for, were quickly drowned out. He certainly could try harder to think about them, but since he had thought this long without slumping into un-conciousness, that perhaps what had caused previous
concussions was his attempt to control his mind. As he lay, he decided to just let them come, hoping to fall asleep, and wake up with them gone.

The next day, the thoughts were gone. Steve took his normal leisurely day, convinced he had overcome the obstacle. He found out how to avoid un-conciousness by just not letting his thoughts be controlled. But that in it self was a larger obstacle, not one easy to overcome. In order to overcome his lack of control, Steve knew he had to find the source of the problem, but where it lay was a mystery to him, both as to what caused it, and what
exactly the problem was......
