The Flames of Hell

Like the flames of Hell erupted in RhyDin City.
That was how it looked when Feather stormed out of the small inn she was staying. Thick walls of flame lept from house to house, conjuring up horrific visions of her own destroyed Vale. Panicked children screamed for their mother from one large building, obviously the schoolhouse, as their mothers cried desperately for help.
Feather shoved her way past the crowd of people, running through the charred doorway of the schoolhouse, following the sounds of the frightened children up the stairs and to a door at the end of a hall. It was blocked by a fallen piece of the roof, too heavy for any child to move. Closing her eyes, Feather lifted the wood with mind and body, slowly moving it out of the way.
One by one she helped each child out of the schoolhouse, until all of them were out, or so she thought.
"Where's Anna??" One frantic mother asked.
"I...didn't see her there," Feather replied through her coughing.
"Anna panicked!" One of the boy's said, "She hid in the closet!"
"Oh, Lady Bright!" Feather said, but then realized that these were just children, the oldest no more than ten. Children were easily frightened beyond rational thought.
Feather ran back into the schoolhouse, scrambling up the near-destroyed stairway, heading for the classroom closet. Flinging the door wide open, she found poor little Anna, curled up, unconscious on the closet floor. She picked the girl up, carrying her to the window. Please, gods, make this work. This girl doesn't have time. Once again, she closed her eyes, teleporting the girl into the arms of her mother, who ran off to find a Healer.
As she turned to head out the door, the roof of the old schoolhouse shuddered and sighed, then came crashing down, trapping her under burning wood. Her eyes misted over with tears as smoke and ash burned her eyes and burned her lungs. Feather tapped into the ley-lines for her magic, but as she used it, it failed. A deep, sinister chuckle filled her mind, then faded as quickly as it came. Written in fire on the already burning wall was one simpleword: DIE!
No! Her mind screamed in terror. Who would do this to these people, and to her? With her heart, mind and soul, she called to any who could hear her over the large City-State of RhyDin City.
**HELP! Someone, ANYone! HELP!!**
She called continueously until the darkness of unconsciousness took her, and she fell silent.
((Feel free to join in, that's what this is for! Have fun. ~Feather's player))

Sonia had been hiding out in a delapidated tenement for the past few weeks. No answer had been forthcoming from the so-called Cabal about whether they would attempt to take her ship back for her. And worse yet, she was no closer to finding any mercenaries willing to take her pay rather than try for the reward the Talokians had put on her.
Her light rest was suddenly broken by a screaming in her mind. **HELP! Someone, ANYone! HELP!!** Then, as suddenly as it had come, it was gone. Looking to the window, she saw the dark cityscape lit by the angry red fires that tore through the poor section of town.
Muttering to herself as she put on her protective jumpsuit, she activated the multi-scanner on her wrist. "Computer, pinpoint the source of that telepathic signal." This wasn't any of her concern, but there might be some way to turn a few minor heroics into the kind of assistance she needed to get her ship back. While she waited for the read-out, she heard the distinctive sounds of booted feet running up the corridor to her room.
With a suddenness and precision that was amazing to behold, four Talokian commandos broke into the room... but Sonia was already gone, her auto-teleporter taking her to the edge of the wildly burning wreckage of the school-house. "Frak! I was better off taking my chances with the Talokians!" Pulling up the protective hood of her body-suit, she moved closer. "Computer... scan for life-signs." She didn't hold much hope for anyone in thatblaze, but she might get lucky... The stars knew it was about time for her luck to change.

Wyr, Feather's snowy owl Bondbird, flapped franticly into the Arena, calling to whomever didn't shield their minds.
**FIRE!** He Called, his Mindvoice reverting back to bird-like intellegence in his panic** Help! Heartsister in Danger! Please! Wyr begging!**
He flew about the room, round golden eyes wide with terror. He knew that these were a kind lot, and that they would help if they could. He just hoped they could understand him.

Following the directions of her wrist-comp, Sonia moved in towards the burning wreckage. Looking back over her shoulder, she yelled, "We've still got people alive in here!" There wasn't much she could do to shift the burning rubble, she could point out the most direct way to get to the survivors.

"Don't die...my Lady Feather, please don't die.."
The words echoed through Featherfall's unconscious mind as she felt herself being lifted and carried out of the burning wreakage. Her eyes slowly opened (or, at least, she thought they did) and she caught a glimpse of a familiar face, his gentle blue eyes looking at her with concern, before the vision faded again, and the darkness returned.
--------------------------------------------
A gentleman heard Sonia's words, cursing under his breath. Crawling through the rubble, the large man located Feather's burned, but still living, body, and shoved the fire-weakened wood out of his way to rescue her. He lifted her into her arms and rushed out of the burning house, just as the second floor gave way, crashing down onto the first. The man nodded to Sonia, then rushed her to a Healer's.
Hearing a moan and wispered word that sounded like a name (though he could not make out what name), he looked down at the lady. She was regaining consciousness, which was an extremely good sign. He pushed open the door of the Healer's, speaking to whomever would hear him.
"This lady has been badly burned saving children from the burning schoolhouse," he said as the Healers turned towards him.
An elderly man who looked like the head Healer, motioned to a back room. "Take her in there and we will treat her wounds," he said calmly.
The gentleman did as he was told, then walked out, leaving her to the competent hands of the Healers.
--------------------------------------------
When Feather truly regained consciousness, she looked up into the face of the man that saved her. What looked back was not what she had seen in her delirious state. The gentle blue eyes were replaced by tired, careworn hazel eyes that she did not recognize. This stranger took her into the Healer's building and spoke to an elderly man in green robes, and once again, she faded back into unconsciousness.
Hours passed as the Healers did what they could to patch up her badly burned skin. The worst burns were on her forearms, chest and right thigh, with minor burns to her left leg, feet and hands. When they finished, they bandaged what they could not completely heal. She would aquire more scars, but at least she was alive.
