Daemon trudged his way back up the mountainside. His teleporting was far from perfect. The hard landing had injured his pride more than his body. He checked his pack, his two swords rested safely within. A light snow started to fall and he pulled his cloak tight. Daemon paused briefly to look at the surrounding countryside. He was awestruck by it's simple beauty.
An unusually warm breeze met him as he crested the mountain. His eyes were drawn to the rising sun banner flying high in the air. Daemon's gaze followed the pole back down to the ground. He was startled by what he saw. A small temple sat in the middle of an active volcano. Warm winds from the molten lava caressed his face. There was a rickety wooden bridge spanning the pool. Where the bridge and mountain met stood a small man. Next to the
man was a large knight clad in full black plate mail.
As he approached, Daemon's eyes studied the helmeted knight. The knight was dressed for battle. It carried a gleaming black sword and a full body shield. On the shield, two red rays crossed diagonally from the bottom right upwards. Long black locks of hair flowed from beneath the full face helm.
"Pale one." The small, old man spoke. His common was unfaltering and it broke Daemon's trance. "It is about time you arrived. We have much to do and only a short time in which to do it." He turned swiftly and began to make his way across the wooden bridge. As Daemon began to follow, the black knight moved to intercept him.
Daemon set his pack down on the soft ground. "Hey, Ahkosan," he yelled. "Tell your doorman to stand aside." The knight tilted his head to the side, reached down and picked up Daemon's pack. "Thanks," Daemon said to the silent knight.
"Your first lesson pale one," the old man spoke, "will be to defeat the evils in your own heart. Evils which are so much a part of you that you fail to see them. When you defeat the blackness of your own heart, you will be allowed on sacred ground."
The knight threw Daemon's pack towards the volcano. Daemon's eyes went wide with terror. Not only where his swords in the pack, but a recent portrait of his loving wife was also. "No." He cried out, and ran for the lip of the volcano. He stood there helpless, and weaponless as
his pack entered the molten lava.
When he turned back to the bridge, the old man was gone. The knight stood motionless barring the path across the lava. Furious, Daemon stormed up to the knight. He failed to notice the knight grow slightly larger as he neared. Expecting a block, he swung a mighty left hook at
the knight. The block never came, and with an audible crack, Daemon's fist met with the plate mail helm.
He clentched his fist with his right hand. His two middle fingers were broken. A rage welled from deep within him. He charged the knight once more. The Knights shield came up as Daemon's shoulder barrelled in. They both stumbled back a bit. If he noticed, he seemed not to care that the knight had grown larger still.
"Come on." He yelled, focusing the rage. "Come on you coward, swing that fancy sword." The Knight grew even larger.
"Pale one," a disembodied voice spoke. "Your anger only makes your enemy stronger."
"Just wait till I get inside old man." He feinted left, then tumbled to the right. His mind knew it would soon be out of this battle as the berserker rage consumed Daemon. These last few moves had to count. From behind, his left foot kicked the knight's knee into a forward bend. The knight had to place a hand on the ground to keep from falling.
From his postion on the ground, Daemon's follow up kick did little damage. It did mangage to knock the helmet from the black knight's head. Daemon released the rage at the sight of his enemy. He blinked twice as the black knight rose to stand. Unlike before, the knight was now
furious in it's attack.
"What treachory is this old man?" Daemon was slowly backing away from the knight. The knight's skin was as black as Daemon's was pale. A three claw mark was the only white spot on his face. Daemon was visibly shaken by the knight's uncanny resemblence. Their eyes were the only feature which were truly identical.
The knight moved in methodically. It swung it's sword to Daemon's left, then right. Daemon was being herded towards the lava pool. Daemon took off the belt which held his coin purse. Daemon used the belt like a whip. He was trying to catch the knight's sword arm. He was only a few feet away from the lip and running out of options. As the knight swung, Daemon moved left. He tumbled with the blow he knew wouldn't miss. His armor had taken
most of the damage. His right arm began to numb from the force of the hit.
Daemon focused on the pain. He threw snow in the charging knight's face. The sword went high in the air and Daemon's eyes followed. It was the shield which inflicted the pain this time. Daemon stood slowly from the unexpect shield bash. More pain was good, he focused on the blood running down from his lip.
The rage came full cycle. Berserk, Daemon's eyes glowed with an undescribable brilliance. The black knight retreated a few steps and again tilted his head to the side. Daemon charged with only his hands for weapons. The knight quickly stepped aside and shoved Daemon as he passed. The edge of the volcano neared. Daemon could not stop his forward momentum. His body lurched over the edge and he tumbled towards the hot lava.

Continued. . .

Daemon trudged his way back up the mountainside. His teleporting was far from perfect. The hard landing had injured his pride more than his body. He checked his pack, his two swords rested safely within. Daemon disregarded a notion to belt the weapons on. A light snow started to fall and he pulled his cloak tight. Daemon paused briefly to look at the surrounding countryside. It's simple beauty seemed slightly familiar.
As Daemon crested the peak, the rising sun banner came into view. His eyes followed the pole down from it's point high in the sky. He was somewhat surprised by what he saw. A small temple sat in the middle of an active volcano. His eyes shifted to the two men standing where the bridge met the mountain.
An old man stood beside a large knight. The helmeted figured stared straight ahead. The knight reminded Daemon of the first time he met young Brian. It took Daemon only a few seconds to look over the black knight. From his plate-mail armor, gleaming black sword, to full body shield, nothing looked to out of place.
"Pale one." The old man spoke. His use of the common tongue did not surprise Daemon at all. "It is about time you arrived."
"Let me guess," Daemon interupted. "We have a lot to do and not much time in which to do it. Haven't we covered all this?"
Without another word, the man turned towards the bridge. The black knight stepped infront of Daemon as he began to follow. Daemon's pace hardly slowed. He barrelled past the knight without a second thought. As he was about to step on the bridge, it disappeared. When he turned around, the knight was standing in en-garde.
"So, you want to test me old man." Daemon spoke to the mountain air. "O.K., I'll play your little game." He dropped his pack and reached inside it. He left the Scimitar of Knowledge within and withdrew his trusted Sunblade, ‘Sabre'. Daemon spoke it's name, and the sword flared to life. With a sure stride he approached the knight.
The knight circled to the left away from Daemon. Daemon followed. His piercing red eyes could not make out his opponent's face. Soon the kight stood where Daemon had started. When it stopped circling, Daemon moved in. Sword met with shield and the flames from Sabre danced brighter. The knight's long sword came in low and fast. Months of dueling had prepared Daemon for this. The cut passed under his feet as he jumped into a spin kick. The
knight's helm flew free. No amount of dueling could have prepared Daemon for what he saw. The Black Knight was a mirror image of Daemon.
Not a perfect mirror, but a negative reflection. Where Daemon was almost translucent, the blackness of the knight was bottomless. The only perfect copy were the knight's eyes. They gleamed red as the knight charged in. Sabre's fires doubled and the two began a furious dance of
swords. Daemon allowed the battle's rythm to calm him. This must be a dream. He told his mind that again and again. Daemon recognised the knight's routine. He had fought this warrior before. Parry left, step right. Swing right, step back. He knew what the knight would do before it was done. When the expected thrust came, Daemon was already stepping behind the knight's shield.
He smiled to himself as he readied the killing blow. "Too easy," he said. Sabre arced through the air leaving a blazing trail in the waning light. The knight droped to the floor and used his shield to toss Daemon into the air. His arrogance had cost him dearly. "Khrysta!" he cried out
as he tumbled into the volcano. In the back of his mind he thought . . . "Not again."

For quite a few mintues, Daemon sat on the ground. He studied the contents of his pack. Reaching in he grabed ‘Sabre' and the ‘Scimitar of Knowledge'. "This all seems so familiar." He spoke to himself. A light snow began to fall on the motionless albino. As he belted on the
scimitar he stoped to read the inscription. 'A Little Knowledge Can Be Dangerous' was written inside the buckle.
"I know I've been here before." He continued speaking aloud more to convince himself than for any other reason. "When I reach the top of the mountain, there's a temple. It's in the center of a pool of molten lava. Waiting for me is Ahkosan and my Dark half. What is going on here?" The last was spoken to the sword as he grabed the weapons hilt.
A wave of dizzyness passed over Daemon. The Scimitar of Knowledge flooded his head with images. Twice he saw himself fall into the lava. Once had been caused by his wrath and once by his pride. Soon, more images asailed him. They were images of the Baron of Ballentyne, Ajaybird. There were too many for Daemon to make sense of. He blacked out.
When Daemon awoke he was in a warm place. He could hear swords in the distance. It wasn't the sounds of battle but of a warrior training. Daemon stood slowly. His sword belt was on a chair across the room. He noticed the room was small and the fire in the heath was almost out. Then his eyes went back to his belt. The Scimitar's jewled sheath was empty.
Strapping on his gladius, he left the room and followed his ears down the corridor. Left turns and right turns soon bounced the sound from all directions. Within ten minutes of walking Daemon was back outside the open door of his room. The swordsman still eluded him. He closed his eyes and tried again. He quickly found himself lost once more. Daemon turned around. He was going to go back the way he came and try a different route. When he
came
to the first turn, nothing was as it should have been. The sounds had gotten louder. This was not the corridor he had just walked down. Turning another corner, he found his weapon.
Daemon was stunned. Before him stood the most beautiful display of perfection he had ever seen. An ageless beauty was wielding the scimitar as if it had always been hers. The woman's hair was literally aflame. The outfit she was wearing seemed to be alive with flames as well. She dodged, spun, thrusted and rolled all against an opponent who was just out of view.
He paused on the brink of entering the chamber. Daemon steadied himself, took a deep breath, then entered. One look at the Swordlady's opponent, froze him in his tracks. His entrance had distracted the wyrm and Daemon heard the woman quietly say, "yield?" Still unable to move,
Daemon struggled to regain control of his body. Never had a dragon startled him so.
In a voice that was nearly a whisper, the great wrym yielded. A childlike laughter errupted from the woman's lips. She turned about joyously then settled seeing Daemon. "I am Destiny, Mistress of Fire. This is my mentor, Flame. You are Daemon Satyriasis, Leader of Tribe G'Luscus. Only son of Woodan, the bastard child of Haewar. Shall I continue?"
Daemon still could not move. His eyes danced back and forth between Flame and Destiny. He was suddenly parched and found he could not speak. Destiny approached and Daemon could feel the heat comming off of her. Her perspiration was noticable by a steady hissing sound. Their eyes met and in them, Daemon saw raging fires that matched her hair.
"Flame, please excuse us. It seems you unnerve the godling."
"Yes Mistress, as you desire." The Wyrm unfolded it's mighty wings and with a single flap was vaulted from the room. Daemon's eyes were torn from Destiny briefly as the dragon departed. When Destiny was close enough she extended the scimitar's hilt to Daemon. He was hesitant to reach for it.

Slowly he grabed the weapon's hilt. The expected flood of mental images never came. Daemon breathed a sigh of relief as he sheathed the sentient blade. The whole time his eyes never left those of Destiny. "Might I ask how it is you know so much about me?"
"I believe you just did." Destiny giggled and turned away from the stunned albino. Over her shoulder she called, "Daemon, you're staring." At that she laughed even harder. Destiny continued to move across the immense chamber and Daemon could only follow. He was determined to find out just who this woman was. Destiny finally stopped in front of a small pool of water. Daemon turned asshe began to disrobe. He heard steam rising from the water
as she entered.
"Are you going to join me Daemon?" she asked.
Daemon replied, "I don't think we both fit in that small pool."
"What ever are you talking about?" Destiny cooed. "There is room in here for a legion of men."
"What?" Daemon exclaimed. He turned around to see the pool filled half the chamber. Destiny was sitting waist deep across the pool from him. Daemon looked away quickly. He didn't know why he did, he had never been uncomfortable around women before. "Destiny, are you going to tell me what's going on here?"
"Yes Daemon, but first you have to do something for me." Her voice had gotten nearer. He stole a glance over his shoulder to ask her what she required of him. Daemon was startled to find Destiny standing behind him. Although she had just gotten out of the pool, not a drop of water remained on her naked body.
She answered his question while walking past him. "I need a massage."
Daemon was at a loss for words. Destiny stopped near a wooden table. She looked over her shoulder as she laid down. Daemon hadn't moved from his spot near the small pool. "Daemon, don't tell me I make you nervous. You appear as if you've never seen a naked woman before."
"It's . . . I'm married." He managed to say finally. "I love my wife very much. We are soon to be parents and I don't think this is right." He turned away from her once more and gawked at the small pool. "I don't like this place. I'm leaving."
As he moved across the room, the door became part of the rock wall. He turned around and Destiny was now sitting on the table. She stood and began to cross towards him. This time when Daemon turned away, he found her comming from that direction as well. Each way he turned, she was getting closer.
"You arrogant male." She said when she reached him. Your problem is despite all your Honor, you are still thinking with this." She reached down and grabbed his crotch. Daemon could not break away. Heat began to flow from her hand into his armor. Destiny continued her verbal barrage. "You speak of Love and act so Honorably. You cannot hide your true self from me. I am the Mistress of Fire, and the fires of lust burn deep in your heart."
Daemon was sweating profusely. Since he could not pull away, he removed his chainmail and tunic. Destiny's other hand went for his bare chest.
Daemon grabbed her wrist and attempted to spin her around. He succeeded in turning her, and her hand was free of his crotch. He was glad that his armor had hid his body's response to her touch. Destiny pressed her naked body into Daemon. Her hips gyrated as her bottom grinded into him. Daemon spun her away from him. She had removed his swordbelt in the process and took it with her across the room. She laughed and giggled as she danced away.
Her flaming mane bounced down near her bottom. She stopped before the table as Daemon approached.
"You'll go nowhere till I get my massage. Isn't that right Flame?" At the mention of her name, the Great Wyrm reentered the chamber. "Now Daemon," Destiny commanded, "undress or I will have Flame melt the armor from your body."
As Daemon looked from Destiny to the great wyrm, he could swear the dragon was smiling. Moving out of Destiny's line of sight, he began to undress. Destiny made a gesture and the pillar that had been blocking her view was melted by Flame. She smiled leering over the naked albino. "See young Satyriasis, your own body betrays you."

Daemon averted his eyes as he moved to the woden table where Destiny was laying. He regained control of his body by imagining a battle with the great wyrm. He had fought and defeated a young white dragon once. On that occasion he had held all the cards. He did not think he could win against Flame. Not without his weapons and armor. Destiny tucked her hair into a bun on the top of her head. It reminded Daemon of a small bonfire. He studied the
ceiling as he began to rub her shoulders. His mind still thought about battling the wyrm. Destiny's muscles were not tight at all. He simply went through the motions of the massage. He asked her again what this was all about.
"Could you go a little lower please. My legs are kind of tight."
"Are you going to answer me?" he asked. His hands moved to her ankles.
"Higher Daemon, it is my thighs that are tight, not my ankles."
"I take that as a no then." He began massaging her thighs. A small spot on the ceiling caught his attention. There was a large gem in the corner that relfected light from all over the room. He could see Flame resting peacefully in the corner. His study of the gem ended when Destiny rolled over onto her back. Immediately Daemon's hands came off her legs. Destiny looked up to see what Daemon was looking at. "Why did you stop?" She asked. "I want
the rest of my massage." Daemon did not answer her. Destiny took his hands and placed them on her breasts. "Start here and work your way down."
"No." Daemon said taking his hands away. His eyes never moved from the stone as Destiny rose to a sitting postion. "I will not be a pawn in your game Mistress. You can feed me to Flame for all I care."
"What a heavy mask you wear young Satyr." She left off the rest of his name on purpose. "Am I to believe you have forsaken your lustfull ways? I think not." Her hands moved over his naked body as he studied her through the the gemstone. "Then explain to me Satyr, why does your body
respond to my touch?"
"I have but one thing to say to you." He moved away and chanted the phrase he knew to control fires. "Emadga`ach shaaath uch` Cheeg." When he was finished Destiny's flaming mane and all the fires moved with his voice. Even the fires in her eyes appeared to dance with his voice. Destiny could only stare at the pendant as Daemon spoke. "It is true that part of my body desires you. I am a Satyriasis as you have reminded me so. Yet, I am not an
animal. My body responds to your touch the same way the fires now repsond to my voice. The fires cannot resist and given the circumstances neither can my body. What separates me from the common Satyr is my mind. "This 'mask' as you call it is self control. I am not a Satyr. What separates me from my Surname is my ability to control and channel my lust. If every man where judged on his thoughts alone, the world would be full of sinners. I am sorry
to disappoint you Destiny. Now, if you'll excuse me, there is a man I must see. I have to find a way to save my family."
Daemon turned swiftly and dressed. He released the spell and the fires returned to normal. When Daemon finished dressing he belted on his swords and headed to where the door should have been. The rock wall gave way as he neared. Daemon found himself outside at the peak of the mountain. Ahkosan was waiting for him. In silence he crossed the bridge behind the old man. He never even questioned where the black night was. When Ahkosan stopped at the
temple entrance and removed his shoes, Daemon removed his boots. As the temple doors open Daemon was shocked that the temple was as small inside as it appeared outside

"I have long awaited your arrival Daemon-san." The old man spoke in his native tongue, but the words were understood clearly by the albino. "I have spoken with your mother and she has informed me of your desire to break the curse. Please, be seated." Ahkosan indicated a small pillow on the floor. He sat across from Daemon and waited before continuing.
"Ahkosan," Daemon spoke, "I am familiar with many majiks but I must know one thing." Ahkosan nodded, and Daemon continued. "The black knight I fought my first two times on this mountain, and Destiny are they real?" Again Ahkosan nodded. From behind him entered Destiny clad in the black plate mail. She smiled as she bent down to kiss the old man's forehead.
"Hello Father," she spoke in Daemon's own language. "I see that our guest has arrived." Slowly, she turned towards Daemon. She placed her hands at her side and bowed from the waist. The long locks of her fiery mane licked the hard wood floor. "We meet again young Satyr." Destiny extended her hand towards Daemon.
Daemon politely took the proffered hand. "Hello Destiny." He looked to Ahkosan in hopes that the man would ask his daughter to leave. The request never came and Destiny pulled a cushion next to Daemon's. While she removed the cumbersome armor Daemon spoke , "Destiny, your father and I were talking privately. Would you mind excusing us?"
"Nonsense Daemon-san, I have asked Destiny here." Ahkosan cut off Daemon's protest with
his hand. Destiny stuck her tongue out at Daemon from behind her father. She used a small piece of cloth to hold her silk coat closed. "You may have done well against the demon ‘Iuz' but you have yet to prove that you can handle yourself around your own kind. Fighting a goddess is nothing like fighting a demon."
"Who said I was going to fight a goddess?"
"You are here are you not? You wish to end the curse of your line do you not? There is only one way to break a curse placed on you by a god. Daemon, you must battle Tassenofet on the plane of Concoordent Opposition."
"The what?" Daemon exclaimed.
"It is a place where the gods themselves settle disputes. There, no gods powers are greater than any others. The battle to the death is really just a battle of banishment. When a god defeats another god in this place, the loosing god is banished. The memory of the god and all who followed him are wiped from existance."
"That's why I am needed Daemon." Destiny continued. She adjusted her position so that she was laying on the floor facing Daemon. "You are only one quarter god. Human by most gods standards. If you were to challenge this goddess, it would not be an equal trade off. True, if you win she would be banished but what if she won, what would happen to you? You cannot petition the counsel of gods with a challenge that is not balanced. However, I could
request the challenge and name you as my champion."
Daemon's head was spinning from all the information. "You would do that for me? Why? What if I lost, what would happen to you? To my family? Khrysta is the only family I have. In her womb is the last berserker warrior."
"Relax Daemon-san." Ahkosan spoke once more. "Many people have faith in your ability
as a warrior. Your father, your mother, your grandfather and your aunt."
"My aunt? What are you talking about Ahkosan? My father had no sister."
"Your father did not know he had a sister. Many years ago Haewar was worshiped here on this planet. The people who worshiped him lived in a desert country far from here. I have learned that before his involvement with Tassenofet, Haewar took a mate on this planet. Their coupling left him with a daughter."
Destiny rolled over. Her head landed in Daemon's lap and her coat opened up. "Give your auntie a kiss young Satyr." Destiny's laughter filled the mountain top.
Daemon jumped up and smacked his head on the small ceiling. "Get away from me you temptress. There is no way that you could be my aunt. Besides, you called Ahkosan ‘father' did you not?"
"Daemon, relax. I was only teasing you."
"Then you're not my aunt?" Daemon asked.
"Oh no, I am your aunt, that wasn't what I meant. I meant I was making fun at how you have distanced yourself from your curse. You see, you practically have it beat as it is. You have done well in controling your lustful desires. I tempt you only to reaffirm your beliefs in your self control. You do well by denying me." She walked over to Daemon and extended her arms. "Can I at least get a hug?"
Daemon looked helplessly towards Ahkosan. The old man simply smiled and in a very unexpected movement shrugged his shoulders. With a sigh, Daemon put his arms around Destiny and gave her a warm embrace. He jumped again and released her when she pinched his
backside. "Stop that. You have tested me enough I think."

The next morning when Daemon awoke Destiny was nowhere to be found. Daemon looked about for Ahkosan but the old man too was gone. He had hoped to get some answers without Destiny around. Bored, he withdrew his swords and went outside to practice. He found the movements relaxing and his mind began to wander. His practice was abruptly ended when he found himself flat on his back, Destiny standing over him with her closed fists on her hips.
"Welcome back Daemon. It is good to see that you have not taken leave of all your senses." She extended a hand to help him up.
Daemon looked about, the sun was low on the horison. He walked over to where his swords were lying in the snow. As he bent to retrieve them he spoke to Destiny. "How long have you been watching me? Or did you materialize out of thin air?"
"Daemon, I have been caling your name for the past five minutes. After studying your routine, I was able to walk right between your blades. Do you realize how vunerable you leave yourself when you switch from your left leg forward to your right?"
"Nonsense, you would need to have agility far greater than a pixie to cross unharmed between my blades. I do not believe you. You used your majik to appear before me."
"I will prove it to you nephew. Return to en-garde and begin your routine over."
Daemon did as instructed and began his practice anew. Destiny stood a few meters away watching. Daemon's eyes never left Destiny's as her prepared to switch his lead foot. The left leg began to move, his eyes locked on Destiny. A wink was all the warning he got and suddenly she
was extending her hand to the twice fallen warrior.
"Mistress!" He exclaimed. "You have lied to me. You did not walk between my blades, you simply teleported there. As I have stated, my defense is flawless to a physical attack."
"Nephew," her tone condesending, "give me your blades. I will show you the routine and you tell me that your defense is flawless." Destiny started from the top, right where Daemon left en-garde to begin the routine. Her movements where exactly like Daemon's. As she continued along she spoke. "I'm going to slow the moves down a bit. You tell me what you see when I stop."
The moves came slowly now as if she were moving through water. Then they slowed farther still as if the air about her was molasses. When she stopped, Daemon clearly saw a gap in her defenses. There was a space less than a meter wide between the scimitar's low arcing parry and the ground. Another space between the gladius' slashing movement and it's sister blade that a field mouse might fit through.
"Approach me Daemon. I will hold this position till you are standing before me."
Daemon walked forward and saw no way to slide between the blades and Destiny. He dropped to his belly and crawled forward but could only get his head under the scimitar. Satisfied that he had tried to get inside the blades he stepped back. "You see, unless I was dueling in slow motion like you, suspended in time, and if my opponent were not taller than a newborn babe, there is no opening."
Destiny resumed he normal speed, sheathed the blades in Daemon's belt and stepped back. "En-Garde!" she yelled producing a flaming disc in her hand. Daemon hesitated, his adopted sister £isa carried one of those. £isa's was metal of course, but the purpose was the same. The delay cost him dearly. With a flick of her wrist, Destiny hurled the weapon.
Daemon's hands reached his weapon's hilts. Things around began to slow, everything but the disc arcing towards him. He knew he would not get the blade up in time to parry. Even his thoughts came slowly. Before he could make a descision, Destiny winked at him again and appeared before him to catch the blade. She moved at normal speed but Daemon barely registered the movement. On second she was in one spot, then she was before him, then she was back
where she started.
Suddenly, Daemon found he could move again as if nothing was wrong. He began to step forward, his hands taking comfort in griping his weapons. Destiny upheld a hand, and he stopped. "Before you acuse me of teleporting all over the mountain, look down."
Daemon did just that. What he saw he refused to believe. There were foot tracks all over the ground. Destiny had in fact walked, not ran he could tell by studying the tracks. She had walked to him, turned in place and stopped for a moment, then walked back and turned again. "So what if you didn't teleport, you still slowed time enough to make the walk possible."
Destiny bowed to Daemon. "I know your honor demands a fair fight, but against Tassenofet, you will not get one."
"Then you have spoken with the counsil, I will get my fight."
"There are conditions Daemon. The goddess would not accept the challenge as I issued it. She insited to a single condition. To which I agreed, with an added stipulation of my own."
"What condition? What stipulation?"
"Relax Daemon, she demanded a test of worthiness. Under the circumstances, the council willingly agreed. All but one, felt that you needed to be tested. Your grandfather tried to persuade the others that it was a trick of some sort."
"Haewer is on the council? How is that possible? He will judge a battle that in a way involves one of his own?"
"Haewer had to be on the council for just that reason. The council cannot interfere in the challenge once it has begun. However, you should note that anyone else who might be standing in her corner, or yours, may."
"You mean, whatever army she brings to her side may aide her in battle?"
Destiny shook her head. "Under normal conditions, yes. That was my stipulation. She would get her test, you would get conditions closer to what you are used to. She and you are allowed a 'Second' to stand ringside and that is all. This is assuming of course that you defeat her champion. When you do, I will be your 'Second' and her champion will become her 'Second'."
"The test of worthiness,' Daemon began, "will the wounds heal before the next battle if I win? And what if I fail the test?"
"You won't fail Daemon."
"How can you be so sure Destiny? I couldn't raise a blade against you."
"Because if you lose the test nephew, It will be as if I had lost the battle myself. I will be banished along with all those who worship me. You will return to your world, and the child your wife bears will be cursed and she will die. So you see Daemon, losing is not really an option."

Daemon sank to the ground. The weight of the world suddenly rested firmly on his shoulders. No longer was he fighting for his family. No longer was he the only one at risk. His aunt, and all those who worshiped her, their lives now lay in the balance. Daemon suddenly didn't feel up to the challenge.
"Come nephew, the hour grows late. We should be off, father will be waiting and supper will be getting cold."
Daemon stood slowly. "You really care for the old man don't you?"
"Of course Daemon, he has raised me since I was a child. I am sure your own father, cared for the man his mother lived with."
"My father never spoke of his parents with me. Until the day he died, I didn't even know that I was a godling. There were many others of the tribe who called me 'blessed' but I thought I was cursed. I was the only albino on Faerûn as far as I knew. I was told I was the last berserker warrior."
As they reached the cottage Daemon remained silent. Destiny broke the silence. "I am sorry Daemon. It must have been very difficult for you. I have always known my place in society. My father tought me from when I was very young."
"What of your mother?" Daemon suddenly asked.
"My mother?" Destiny repeated. She adverted her eyes and studied the ground. "She died in childbirth. I was born wrapped in flames, the fires consumed my mother and all those who were present. Ahkosan came to me, picked me up for all to see, then he carried me into the heavens. My mother's people were the first on this world to receive the gift of fire."
They entered the cottage and sat down to eat. Daemon felt very sorry for Destiny. There was also another feeling that stirred in the albino. He had met a kindred. Someone who knew how he felt, someone with whom he shared a common background. They ate in silence. Ahkosan never once asked about the meeting or about where they had been. After dinner, Daemon helped Destiny clear the table. They washed the dishes in silence. Daemon wasn't sure what
had changed, but something had transpired between the two. When they were finished, he washed up and went to bed. For several hours he lied there studying the ceiling. Ahkosan stuck his head in once, only to say, "We start at dawn."

Dawn came before Daemon even registered having fallen asleep. It seemed like he had only slept a few minutes when Destiny awoke him.
"Where is Ahkosan?" he asked.
Destiny was wearing the outfit Daemon had first seen her in. Her fiery locks of hair danced freely below her waist. In her hand she held a padded sword. She told Daemon to dress and grab his blades. He was to meet her outside.
When Daemon stepped out of the temple, he was greeted with the sight of Destiny enjoying a ride on Flame's back. The proud dragon, climbed straight up, then arched over backwards. Destiny fell from the wyrm's back. She tucked in her arms and gained speed. As she neared, Daemon realized that she was comming straight for him. Not wanting to be her landing pad, he tumbled quickly aside. Just as he did, Destiny tucked into a ball and then extend
her legs to the
ground and landed. Sword in hand she commanded Daemon into en-garde..
Daemon was alreay ahead of her. He tried to ask her a few questions while they fought. Each question was answered with a slap to the face, hip, or arm by Destiny's blade. So much for Daemon's seeming flawless defenses. The next few days he experiance more of the same. Destiny would make a grand entrance only to begin the battle imediately. The week passed
without sight of Ahkosan. This bothered Daemon but Destiny seemed undaunted. The two lived under the same roof but they lived as strangers.

"It is time." Ahkosan awoke Daemon a few hours before dawn.
"Ahkosan, where have you been? I have been worried about you. I couldn't get a word out of Destiny the entire time you were gone."
"Daemon, my child," he began. "Destiny cares deeply for you. She also fears that she is training you for your doom. and of course, your doom would bring about her banishment. So you must understand why she has been distancing herself from you. I believe she can handle her own loss
more than the thought of loosing you."
Daemon dressed in total darkness. The world once again rested on his shoulders. He could not loose that was all there was to it. When he left his room, Destiny and Ahkosan were waiting for him. They exchanged brief nods and led Daemon from the temple. Flame waited outside wearing a weird bridle.
"Flame will take us where we need to go." Ahkosan spoke. "Daemon, I know of all you have been through in your life. Your comming here has strengthened you still. You have faced yourself and you have come to terms with what you have learned about your own heart. You have controlled your desires and swallowed your foolish pride." Daemon nodded as he followed Destiny onto the wyrms back. Ahkosan continued to speak as he climbed up behind Daemon and
Flame took flight. "You have done much in you short life my child. I say that with pride at having had the chance to meet you. Never forget who you are Daemon."
Flame climbed higher leaving the planet behind. Daemon thought his lungs would burst from lack of air. Suddenly, the blackness of space was lit up. Daemon could breathe again. They were flying through a grey mist. Although Flames wings moved, Daemon felt not the rush of wind or
the sensation of movement that had been noticable previously. "Until we meet again young Satyriasis." Ahkosan spoke then heaved himself from the wyrm's back. Daemon tried to follow but Destiny grabbed his arm.
"My father has business elsewhere Daemon. As I have told you, we make this trip alone."
They grey mists around them began to part. In the distance Daemon could make out a gathering of beings. Flame circled once before landing in front of the council of gods. Daemon's eyes looked over the seven figures seated behind the table. At the center sat Ao, the Hidden One. He was said to be the power of all powers. To his left sat a female goddess whom Daemon recognised as Beshaba, she was the only female of the seven. Of the other five,
Daemon was only able to recognise one.
At the far end of the table sat an old man holding an onyx falcon head staff. It was Ahkosan Daemon thought. The figure took on a shape more familiar to Daemon. A tall man with the head of a Falcon raised his staff in Daemon's direction. Daemon turned to Destiny, but she had already moved away from him.
He walked over to where she stood ringside. "Ahkosan is your father. Why didn't you tell me. You kept that from me. I cannot believe you would do such a thing. I am his blood too."
"Daemon, it was not my choice to keep it from you. I never said he wasn't my Father. You assumed that it was mearly a tearm of affection. And when he spoke to you, did you not feel as if he truly cared. Why do you think we are here Daemon. My father would see this thing ended."
"Where is Tassenofet? Damn her test of worthiness I shall deal with her directly." Daemon was furious. He gripped his weapon's hilts. The cold feel of steel calmed him. The Scimitar of Knowledge gently reminded Daemon of his success against the black knight. He released the weapon and regained his composure. There was a flash of light and a figure appeared in the center of the ring. Daemon lept over the ropes and withdrew his blades. When the
smoke
cleared, the goddess Tassenofet stood before him. Daemon tried to bring his weapons to bear and found he couldn't. The goddess walked behind him.
She was so close Daemon could feel her skin brush against his armor. She leaned in and whispered in his ear. "My, my, what have we here? You have already forgotten the terms of this battle. Such a proud warrior. You would dishonor the word given to myself and all those present?"
Daemon knew where this was going. He surpressed the urge to throttle the goddess. He comforted himself know that he had defeated 'Iuz'. The goddess' champion would be no match for him.

"You think so, do you?" Tassenofet asked reading Daemon's thoughts. She spoke to the council. "The albino believes that he is worthy to face me now. He believes that there is no contest for him because he defeated 'Iuz'." The council said nothing and the goddess continued her speach. "I don't believe you Daemon Satyriasis, son of Woodan, Bastard child of Haewer." She shot a glance down the table to where Haewer was seated. "I have chosen a better
champion this time. I have chosen from your new home on Rhydin. You do not stand a chance." She laughed and completed her way back to the center of the ring.
Daemon's mind raced. Who could she have found on Rhydin. Would it be someone he knew? Would it be someone he had dueled before. He thought of all the people who might want to cause him harm. He wondered who would come after him here when he could be found in the arena almost any night.
Tassenofet stepped back. She chanted an arcane phrase and another figure appeared in the ring. The figure was smaller than Daemon. He watched it take shape trying to figure out who it would be. The form stepped from the departing mist and Daemon dropped his blades. From the mist a child stepped forth. It was Brian, he was dressed in black leggins with tear in one of the knees. On Brian's hip rested a short sword and in his hand he held Daemon's
own long knife. From the
child's ear a silver cuff dangled, the charm he had left behind for the lad.
"NOOOO!" Daemon screamed. "I will not fight the boy. I don't know what treachory you used but he is here against his will. The boy would never champion you." He turned his back and walked towards Destiny.
"Mister Daemon," Brian began. "Mister Daemon, I believe this is yours."
"Daemon look out!" Destiny cried. Daemon turned and Brian was right there. The knife Daemon had left the child found its way between the folds of his armor. The lad paused briefly before tumbling backwards away from Daemon.
"You see, the godling is not worthy of my time. This small child can defeat him." Tassenofet called out. "Really Haewer, It's no wonder you feel the need to breed so often. If my children were as weak as yours I would want a lot of them around too."
Daemon placed his hand on his stomach. The blood flowed slowly but he found it difficult to move with the knife imbedded in him. He reached down and pulled it out. The blood came faster now, but Daemon cared not. He crumpled to the floor near his weapons.
Destiny came over to him. "Daemon, get up. You must fight him. Already the gods are determining you as worthless as Tassenofet has claimed.
"You don't understand, I promised the lad's sister I would care for him. That I would raise him as my own. You ask me to strike one of my own."
"Daemon, this is a test. If you wish to battle the goddess, you must win this duel. That boy is not the same child you left behind. He is here of his own free will. Tassenofet has made a deal with him. I know not what it is but you can see in his eyes, he wishes to defeat you. I think he knows not all of what is at stake here."

Daemon slowly rose. He picked up his weapons and stood at en-garde. Across the ring, Brian nodded to Tassenofet, then bowed to Daemon. Daemon returned the bow. He told his mind, it was just a duel, the wounds would heal and he would find out what was wrong with Brian.
Brian handled his shortsword with ease. Daemon could tell that he had been practicing. It was as if he had been training for this for quite some time. It had only been three weeks since Daemon left. That thought trouble him. Was it possible that the whole thing had been a lie?
They went through a series of moves. Brian was forcing Daemon to fight toward his injured side. When Daemon would move towards the side Brian was on, the would would send pain up his side. He worked Brian hard, testing the boy's defenses. After one time around, Daemon saw where he would win this battle.
The lad parried Daemon's scimitar wide to the left. As he slashed in at Daemon's open flank, Daemon jumped in the air. The ensuing roundhouse kick left Brian sprawled against the ropes. Daemon moved quickly towards the boy. Brian did not move at all. His breath was shallow and Daemon felt a pang of guilt. He had tricked the boy into thinking him defensless. He looked over to Destiny and could see she felt the same. A mixture of relief and sorrow
marked her face.
"Enough" The Hidden One exclaimed. "The albino has passed the test. Tassenofet,
enter the ring and Begin." Daemon felt the wound in his stomach heal. His body felt fully rested.
He walked over to his corner where Destiny was standing. She had come dressed for battle, a flaming disc hung from her hip and a sword rested comfortably on the other side.
"I do not want you to interfere." Daemon demanded. "This is my battle and my score to settle."
"You have already forgotten what I told you. She will not fight fair. Look at her Daemon, look at how she instructs the child. they are plotting against you." Daemon looked over, he was relieved to see that Brian had healed as well. It didn't ease the guilt in his mind over hurting the child. It didn't bring him any comfort to see the child's eyes sparkle as the lad listened to the godesses instructions.
Daemon turned on his heal and bowed towards the council. He then gave a slight bow to his opponent. Tassenofet laughed and produced a Sword-staff. She lashed out quickly and forced Daemon to defend himself. Daemon's defenses held and he was able to get his footing under him. The sword-staff was an impossing weapon. It was good on defense and effectively kept a large space between the combantants. On offense, Daemon noted the weapon's speed was
greater than it should have been. His swords were managing to keep the weapon at bay but he could gain no ground and get closer to the goddess.
Daemon looked to Destiny. There was a sudden realization that if he could see Destiny, the his back was to Brian. He turned quick, but not quick enough. Brian was already in sriking range and the Scimitar of Knowledge fell to the floor, Daemon's hand still wrapped around the weapon's hilt.
He brought 'Sabre' around but Brian offered no defense. The sword sank into the lad's chest. Daemon realease the weapon and clutched the dying child. The boy's eyes where no longer glassed over. "Thank you, Mister Daemon." Those were the child's last words.

Out of the corner of his eye there was a flash of light and the sound of metal on metal. Destiny's flaming disc had saved him from Tassenofet's killing blow. The goddess turned on Destiny, leaving Daemon alone with the child, his lifes blood flooing freely from where his right hand once was. A rage welled within Daemon and it was one he could not and would not surpress. There was the sound of a body hitting the ground behind him. Daemon turned to see Destiny crumpled on the floor. Tassenofet stood triumphantly over the Mistress of Fire. She paused before bring her weapon to bear on Daemon once more. "This is pointless albino, Already you wife begins to bear your child. Soon she will be as dead as these two here." "Liar!" Daemon picked the scimitar up off the floor. It was easier than pulling 'Sabre' free from Brian. What did you do to the child? Why was he here?" "I am not a liar godling, see." She conjured a small porthole in the sky. Daemon could see that Khrysta was in the pains of labor. He took small comfort that Sher was at her side. "As for the lad," she continued, moving in on Daemon as he rose. "I promised he would be rejoined with his sister. You have forfilled that promise for me." The scream that erupted from Daemon's lips was far from intelligable. His eye's sparkled with there own inner light. Tassenofet cast a spell to slow time. Daemon was not affected. With determined steps he moved in on his prey. She tried a command spell, illusionary pits and walls of solid fire. Daemon moved through them all. His mind was elsewhere and the berserker saw only his enemy before him. Tassenofet brought the sword-staff up over her head.It mearly slowed Daemon's downward chop. The shaft splintered and the Scimitar stopped firmly in the godesses head. She crumpled lifeless to the ground at the albino's feet. The Warrior turned slowly on the council. He saw The Hidden One standing and motioning the others to do the same. Arms wide, the council stood before him. No one moved and Daemon sheathed the Scimitar of Knowledge. He collapsed to the floor clutching his right arm once more. When he came to, only moments had passed. The council had departed. Only Haewar, in the form of Ahkosan, remained. He was kneeling at the side of his fallen daughter. Across the ring Brian lay lifeless. Daemon walked over to the child and gently removed his sword from the lad's chest. He sheathed it as well and turned to Ahkosan. "Why did you not tell me? You knew who her champion would be, didn't you?" "Daemon my child," Ahkosan offered. "I could not interfere once the challenge was accepted." Daemon bent over and picked up Brian in his arms. It was akward hold the boy with just one hand. There was a bandage on his arm, the wound had been cauterized. Daemon turned once more to Ahkosan. "My wife, how is she?" He asked "See for yourself." Haewer replied, opening a portal to Daemon's home world. "Although you have only been here a few weeks, many months have passed on your world."

Sher is just sitting down to breakfast when she hears a horse gallop up and stop, in a hurry, outside her door. She gets up from the table and goes to the door to see who is out there, and is not too surprised to see that it is Brian. He comes rushing up to her and says, "Mrs. Sher......I need you to come with me ....Its Mrs. Khrys.......she needs you." Sher sees the panic on the lads face and tells him to go on back to the cottage and tell Khrys that she is on her way. She hurriedly gets dressed and throws a few things she will be needing into a bag, then goes out and saddles her horse for the ride to the home of her good friends. When she gets to the cottage she doesn't see Brian or his horse anywhere, but hears a low groaning coming from inside.....she gets off her horse and ties him to atree just outside the house. She then takes her bag and walks to the house. She first looks in the window and sees Khrys lying on the bed, and in obvious pain. "Khrys, Its Sher", she called as she walked in. She walked up to her friend and saw that she was in very bad shape.....this delivery wasn't going to be an easy one, from the look on Khrys's face. She gets some water from a pailful that is in the kitchen and wets a cloth for Khrys's forehead. Hoping to take her mind off her pain for a second she starts talking about Kyle's party Sunday night and all the things they saw there. All the tapestries and decorations and how surprised Kyle was to get his promotion. She could see that it was beginning to work, when all of a sudden Khrys had another contraction.....this one the hardest yet.......She took Khrys's hand and let her squeeze it as hard as she needed to, to make the pain morebearable. All at once Khrys screamed and Sher knew it was almost time for the baby to be born. Looking at Khrys, she knew it was time for her to push at the next contraction. Sher started to concentrate as she was taught, to help ease some of the pain that Khrys was experiencing......hoping she was strong enough to be able to help her friend deliver this baby that so wanted to see the outside world. As the next contraction started Sher told Khrys to take a deep breath and push .....Khrys did and Sher saw the baby's head........as the baby came out, Sher cleaned the birthing mucus out his eyes and nose.....then as therest of the baby's body came out Sher started in surprise....the baby wasn't a boy as they were expecting, but a girl. She looked at Khrys,smiling...... "Khrys, she said," I want you to meet your new Daughter." Still smiling, she wrapped the baby up in a blanket and handed her to Khrys...... "A girl. You had a little girl." Sher can't wait to see the expression on Dae's face when he sees her. She smiles as she thinks of her friend Daemon being the daddy of a little girl, and wonders if he will teach her the art of dueling with swords. Already knowing the answer before she even thinks it......yes, of course he will.

"See for yourself." Haewer replied, opening a portal to Daemon's home world. "Although you have only been here a few weeks, many months have passed on your world."
Daemon saw Khrysta sitting up holding a small white child. The child's red eyes looked into Daemon as if the portal wasn't even there. "It's over then, the curse that is? I can go home?"
Ahkosan nodded. "It's a girl," he said. "Your wife has yet to name her. The match ended just in time to save your wife, but the child had already passed through the birth canal. I am afraid she will remain an albino like her father. Have you chosen a name?"
"I have." Daemon said, stepping into the portal. "Brianna" he called back to the old man. Khrysta looked up hearing his voice. Daemon stood before her with the broken body of the lad she considered her own son in his arms. In her arms, their child looked up and smiled for the first time.
"Brianna" Khrysta repeated tears running down her face.

"Morning Brian", Khrys greeted him as he came in through the door from the parlor to sit at the table.
The lad looked up at her with somber eyes. "Morning Mrs. Khrys" Quietly he watched her fix breakfast for them both.
Lately he had been withdrawn and moody. He had always been quieter and more reserved than most children his age. It was natural considering all he had seen and been through in his short life of seven years. But of late... it was moreso.
Trying to fill the empty spaces, Khrys tells him of what happened Sunday night at the party... Kyle's promotion to Captain.... Tolec's speech... the beautiful decorations.... the suits of armor and tapestries....
"Uh huh"..
As she chatters on, trying to interest him, the pains begin.... not slowly as she had been expecting, but hard and quick. Falling to her knees, she feels the warmth of rushing fluids down her legs. "Dear Goddess...."
"Mrs Khrys!!"
"Brian.... go quick. I need Sher NOW.... Run, Sweetheart, run...."
With eyes wide and his face white with fear, Brian runs for the horses.. Not taking the time to saddle him, he jumps on the large gelding Nameless and rides, not seeing where he is, knowing only he has to get to Mrs.Sher.
