Cards on the Cork

Post by DoF Archive » Wed May 12, 2004 11:35 pm

From: Dare Elan

The card dangled by a pushpin on the Duel of Fists corkboard. The pushpin was hunter green and the card was bordered in the same color. On the outer face were the words "Happy Birthday" in golden glitter over creamy paper. Likewise, the creamy white interior bore a message on the upper left inside of the card.

In the broad, brisk lines of an even, masculine hand, the ink reminiscent of sorrel red, note proclaimed:

I didn't forget, Kelli-chan.

With all my love,
Darien

The ps was added in smaller block print:
anyone wishing to send Kelli blessings on her day may add his name here.

And the rest of the card was blank, open for the names of Fists duelists who wished to offer happy birthdays to DoF loveliest caller.

As the warrior comes upon the card, his face brightens and he reaches down to pull out the almighty pen. In a blank place, he writes. . . .Happy Birthday Kelli.May you have many more,BaneHis writing isn't too large and doesn't take up too much space because he wouldn't want to cut down on those who want to wish Kelli a happy birthday. With a nod, he moves on.

Ever since the new bar had been finished, our fearless Ranger has been occupying one of its many stools frequently. His new favorite drink, the Orcish Dark Ale (and to that one Orc would probably comment "They're all dark, dimwit ranger"), has probably seen him more than Caitlyn these past few nights.

*Foolish alcoholic.*

A mere snicker in the corner of his mind. The voice up there has weakened much since the incid-... maybe that should not be spoken of right now for Eldarion's sake.

The boards were something he frequently read, but rarely participated. He had neither the time nor the will-power anymore to voice opinion. What's the use of cries falling on deaf ears?

After finishing one of those Dark Ale's before leaving, Eld decided to catch up a little on the boards. Not much was important to him, but occasionally he would read a post that caught his eye.

Kellian's birthday announcement was one that did just that.

After revealing that Eld smirk and picking up a pencil, he scribbled down a few comments then signed his name on the card. The chicken scratches that proved to be Eld's handwriting replied:

Many blessings of the Silmarils be upon
you on this day. Namarie.

Elen sila lumenn omentielvo.

::reads the card carefully, then smiles and nods as writes in a corner of the card:: "Happy Brithday to one of the nicest folks I've had the pleasure to meet in here."

::re-reads the short message and nods, satisfied. He then walks off, humming to himself::

::his eyes gaze over the board in which he hasn't been by in a couple of days::

::sliding from post to post, his eyes catch on the Birthday notice, a smile gliding over his face as he grabs his golden pen and scribbles a note to Kelli::

Kellian Elan,

From the time I first met you, you have always been a true fighter. You fight with respect and honor. Not only are you a good fighter, but a loyal friend. I hope that friendliness will last forever as I am honored to be a part of it. Happy Birthday, Kel. We all love ya lots.

With love,
::sighs his name instead of placing a stamp::

::Maetel looked oddly at the strange card on the board, she remembered something about birthday things, but not what they were or why people were happy about them::::still, she should write something::::there wasn't a lot of room left on the card, so she grabbed a piece of blank paper and very carefully wrote her letter::Maetel no for know what is birthday thingMaetel like for peoplepersons for to be happyMaetel say have much happy birthday thing::she looked over her handiwork, grinning her feline grin::::then she remembered that everyone else had put their names under what they wrote::Maetel write this::with that, she bounded over to the board and put her letter inside the card, pinning it with one of the spare pins there::

Yeah, so she was a little late. It was nothing new, she'd prolly be late to her own funeral. It wasn't her fault, really... she had needed the time to get her team up and running, and she had been gone for other reasons.

But on this day, she went to the boards, and smiled, seeing the card for her friend and co-worker. Nodding, she added her own well wishes.

Kelli,

Merry Birthday, and may you have many more, hon. You're one of the best.

With love and warm thoughts,
Jaycy
