The Market (Caedia)
Date: 4/27/1999 12:55 PM Central Daylight Time
From: CaediaThrn
After leaving her... brother's room, she heads off once more in the endless walk that kept her mind from wandering too much. Actually, it made her focus on what she was doing rather than the thoughts that swirled her mind and clouded fair reasoning. She wasn't here to get soft, nor was she here to continue on her tread of cold heartedness either. She was here for a change, and a change, somehow was going to be
made.
The positive side of the walking led to the fact that she didn't concentrate on hunger, nor on the real aspects of her life, simply the path, what jutted out where.. what that bird was doing with that particular call, or how the river looked like a twisting diamond bracelet on the wrist of the world. She did manage to glean some sense of irony on how little the world made her feel.
Silver eyes blinked into full awareness as the forest ended, coming to life upon an anthill of work. People trod around busily gathering supplies for the necessary life in the market which was described best on the banner above the apparent town.
"Market."
Simple yet elegant, the word seemed to read entrance to her, and she was soon to find out why the 'market' was so far out into the woods. Black lettering had proclaimed the word market, befitting as it indeed was the black market, where everything from White noble horses and children were sold, to the stolen goods of who knows from where that lavished table tops. Seas of glittering jewels, pearl necklaces, and emeralds winked out from various
points in the market, somewhat smoothing over the snotty nosed children still sniffling and sneezing from the over seas trip in a no doubt crowded boat.
For the hours that she had been walking, she seemed refreshed, each step another endeavor to the world she was now encompassed by. Gold hair infringed upon her sight, giving her shade to seek out different areas of intrest without being too obtrusive or blatantly staring. For the first time since she had left his room, she vaguely wondered if they looked alike. Sure, the blonde hair and silver eyes were remarkably similar.. and if he was
telling the truth, then certainly their face...... well. Enough of that, she had no more to brood over those facts when she was amongst a sea of delightful strangers.
She was at peace, a strange feeling when lost in a crowd of whom you know no one. Robes swished by her creating the feeling of lost abandonedment that she carelessly drowned in. Fingers reach up to press upon the sun heated lips in slow tandem to a smile as she scanned the unfamiliar scenery... so lost... so no one, that no one noticed. How grand a life of unfamiliarity fit her... when she herself seemed to be struggling with the newfound
knoweledge that she wasn't "Silver", or "Raven", or "Sade" anymore. Now she was some woman marked with a past. Caedia. Thorn on top of that..
A woman stopped her, offering out a handful of beads that looked as though they had belonged to a king himself.. and probably had. With a polite shake of her head, she abandoned thoughts to study the actual stream of people and the wares they offered. She wandered around here and there.. at first on watch of the people and how they operated, then on the gaurds, how many they were and where they were at all times.
Black latex was ensconced soon under a grey robe set she had bought from a very pretty Arabian woman. Stepping into the area donned especially for suiting up, she was once again ready to face the crowd.

By high noon she had pretty much satiated her need for things by brazenly, if not dangerously, sliding them into the folds of her newly bought robes and letting them drift downward. Her face, albeit mostly hidden by the folds of the robes and most definitely shielded from the heat of the sun, was glittering with hope of a good catch. Silvers falter over the wares, growing weary of what the market had to offer
until the glimmer of sunlit sparkle catches her eye.
Dangling from a tree branch where many other necklaces were being held was a lustrous ruby that was held neatly in the spindly legs of a black widow spider. It wasn't the spider that had attracted her, it was the cut of the ruby, and the clarity of the color. It was gorgeous, and certain to garner a lot of money.. something of which she needed.
Fingers dance along the leaves of the tiny tree, towards that prize, stopping by a few other necklaces on it's way. The ruby was quickly concealed by the folds of her sleeves when the woman looked over in time to catch Caedia lifting a necklace holding a white moonstone in it.
"Quite beauty, and necklace will accent well with face." Caedia smiled at the woman delicately asking how much. The soft voice and face of the former street rat smoothed over the worry and suspicion of the other woman, and with nimble yet gnarled fingers clutched the moonstone necklace and placed it about her neck.
"You like, you take for cheap." The smile of the elder woman almost put Caedia to shame for having stolen the other necklace, but not entierly as she forked over the amount they settled on and turned to head towards the doors. Having enough for a day, she was ready to go back to the Outback and relax.
"Well now my little thief.. are you ready to bargain?" The voice had caught her by such surprise that she visibly startled backwards and nearly screamed, her hands moving up to quickly shield her ears from the offending attack. The voice had loomed, snaking deep within the tracks of her mind, leaving her feeling so disgustingly violated.
Reeling back to a staggard lean against the nearby tree, she looked around for the messenger of the disgusting voice. Nothing. No one was around in the little crook that she had chosen to complete her goal. With careful fingers, she had reached down to loosen the robes when the voice had spoken.

"Who the hell are you?" More curiousity riddled that question that anger really did, knowing quite well she deserved to be caught.
"Eight legs, two eyes, and a body so small one wouldn't notice when trying not to be noticed." It was then she noticed the strange thing before her, and quickly she ripped the ruby out from it's place among the stolen items.. sure enough, the ruby was now bare. So shocked that the effects the evading voice had on her mind was nil compared to the feeling of helpless confusion.
"How the f--," she didn't finish the sentance, reminding herself of the promise to the only one she gave a damn about... well, for the moment anyway, "how in blazes name did you... " She couldn't even finish that sentance, this time merely because she didn't know what in the hell she was dealing with.
"Belzare is the name, and you... are in debt. I must say that I am noteably impressed however, as no one has been so cunning as to steal this is such a greatly open area. I have long awaited for a person such as you... to deter this object without notice of the woman, or the gaurds. Yes, I seemed to have found who I am looking for."
She sat there, blinking at the spider's emerald eyes for quite sometime trying to absorb all the information in. At once the spider began to pulse and swell, forming instead to arms, two legs, and a long tail. The small monkey then jumped up onto her shoulder. She had seen many things in her trek back home, from guns that were in the form of canes, or credit cards, to martial arts moves that would make Jackie Chan look like Barbie. This,
however, was behind her comprehendable reach for the moment.
"I'm Silver.. and stop talking in my head." Now she realized she was vaguely talking to herself and wondered of her sanity level.. this was guilt to the max. If remorse was making her hallucinate this, she wasn't touching another thing in her life.
For a moment she tensed to throw the monkey off, yet something halted her in mid-tense and she almost managed a grin.
"Alright Abu, get down to the specifics before I find you underfoot."
"Abu?," the voice was seriously confused at her reference to the cartoon character, yet continued onward without much complaint, "you can go with me... or the goons."
She had noticed the huge men in black, and while they really weren't too much of a concern for her, she wasn't in any want of a fight at the moment.. she'd gone through enough emotional discord. Besides, this was kinda intresting.
"Go ahead."

"You will serve me by pretending to be my daughter. The act is simple, you wear robes that will be provided to you, and once in the alter, you will steal a simple golden armband. The reward.. or payment, is simple enough as well. You may take anything else that gathers your intrest and that you could get away with."
"And the catch?" She swore the monkey grinned at that, and suddenly the fingers came forward holding a strange leaf.
"You need take this.. if you agree that is. The catch is a diamond and a tattoo that must be placed on your finger for your own safety."
"And this?" She said eyeing the leaf rather insecurely, she didn't want to trust anything she didn't know firsthand.
The voice that slaughtered the peace of her mind then was anything but innocent.. in fact, the evil gravely voice nearly caused her to shrink back.
"It's for your own safety." His tail had wrapped down her arm, and to the pad of her finger.. the tip of her left forefinger. Nervously, though showing it only on the inside, she nodded her approval. She left the leaf alone however, and immediately regretted it as searing pain ripped through her fingertip where his tail was now wrapped tighter What in the hell was she doing?? Out of sheer desperation, she popped the leaf into her mouth and
chewed viciously.
Euphoria hit almost instantaneously nearly reeling her backwards as the pain fired into her skin with a fury unleashed. Blackness tried to wash over her, yet somehow she hung on, clinching her teeth against the ravaging fire, she slammed her back against the tree letting that pain overwash some of that that her finger was suffering. Finally the leaf took it's work quickly underway, and the pain was mostly eased. Blinking blearily, she noted
that the monkey had quickly morphed into a huge black panther.. or maybe it was just the reactions of the medication. Whatever he gave her was working quite nicely, and when she looked at her finger, it didn't even phase her. Black swirls decorated the pad of her finger now, and the diamond as well was embedded deep in the middle of the pad of her finger.
"You look like Bagheera... where's Baloo?" Apparently the black panther didn't find much amusement in her words as sinews stretched in tandem with her sudden forward movement. She didn't recall moving, but she indeed was going forward.
"Who is Bagheera, and what are you trying to say?" The soft purr echoed into the depths of her mind, almost soothing her, and she grinned.
"Yanno, it's tha.. bear necessities.. tha simple bear necessities.. forget about your worries and your strife.." The panther again chuckled deep in the folds of her mind and guided her towards the front of the market. Caedia had cleverly hidden all of her stolen goods into the pit of her boots, leaving her pockets bare when the gaurds patted her down and checked for stolen items.

As soon as they were on the outskirts of the market, the gaurds only nodding their approval as they found nothing (even though they did ask her extensively on how much the moonstone necklace was and who she bought it from) the panther stopped his movement. Caedia was still reeling from the effects of the leaf and no doubt would continue for a bit as she hadn't had a chance to eat.
"What's your name for real?" The black mouth questioned her as she stared in awe at the mouth. If she weren't on the floating edges of the leaf's kindness, she would have noted that the mouth didn't really move.
"Sade." The answer was simple, direct, even for the effects of the leaf, even back when she lived on the streets high on drugs she knew who and where she was at all times. Luckily she had eased off of the drugs before Matteo had found her, yet she still was knocked abroad by the leaf.
If he hadn't bought the second name, he allowed her to think so and muscles once more shifted stretched and bended to form a lithe man, taller than most and darker than she.
"Belzare?" The words came through her haze, though not lacking in emotion now. Everything she felt was exposed making her feel as though she were naked before him.
He nodded then and took her hand up in his to examine the newest addition to her finger. Once more the smooth stacatto reverberated into her mind as he looked her over.
"You will be contacted in three days, upon the third moon, you will be dressed in the proper robes and informed of the proper way to behave."
She closed her eyes for what seemed like an eternity before opening her eyes back up to look at the man.
"How am I supposed to pass for your daughter.. I don't believe that my color perception is off.. see?," she held out her arm for him to see, "white.. you are not.. white."
A slow smile stretched across those lips of his, and she swore it was Jafar reincarnated.. she had watched too many movies in those foster homes.
"You will see, the robes will hide you totally as is our way with our people, and only your fingertip will be allowed to be seen, even then it's only by one. Now, go home and rest. I know where you are. When your fingertip burns, it's time for you to come here once more." With that, the voice and presence in her mind was gone, dissapearing like the figure in front of her. Blinking a few times, she looked around the scenery once more mulling
over her sanity and what just occured. A look to her left fingertip proved that the actions did indeed happen and feet start moving swiftly.
Back through the forest, continuing in the same pattern as she had arrived, she tried to clear her head of the haze. Lack of sleep, lack of food, and fear left her staring at her brother's door once more. She dropped to a lean upon the wood, taking comfort in that fact... the fact that possibly she finally had a place to call home. Some sort of comfort in the strange world she had adjusted to years ago.
"What have I gotten myself into?" The voice was so soft, so full of her emotions that the leaf was obviously letting out into the open. Once more emotions and fear welled up into the pit of her stomach, and any less control, she would have knocked on the door and met him.
Instead, she swiveled away from the door and headed to Deuce's favorite couch. The robes she had been wearing was shed quickly and made into makeshift bed and pillow duo and tucked in the tiny space between the wall and the couch. Dropping down very wearily, she attempted sleep.

It's Time (Caedia)
Date: 5/3/1999 3:24 PM Central Daylight Time
From: CaediaThrn
It was indeed only a few days longer before her finger began to throb. She was midswing of an uppercut to the wooden figurine when the seering pain hit. Figuring it to be just a reprecussion of the previous days fight, she ignored it at first by gritting her teeth tightly. It wasn't until a roundhouse was aimed at the piece of wood and executed nearly perfectly that she noted the redness of the diamond. Afraid
that she had caused it to rupture and bleed, she stopped in her actions and stared at it a moment.
The redness deepened and suddenly flickered into green.. panting and sweating from the mid-day sun, she turned and ran into the hotel room that was hers and gathered her items. A small bag thudded against her legs as she ran out into the open towards the Outback and the woods behind it.
Once into the sanctuary of the calling woods, she relaxed into a casual walk.. almost seeming to enjoy the songs of the birds and chattering of the squirrells as they made their way into various trees. The clearing spread before her yet she didn't recognize it as the market had already upped and left to another part of the woods, most likely to keep their own safety of being discovered.
But Jafar was there.... she shuddered at his demeanor having not had a clear edge when speaking with him last.
"You came." The voice was simple and direct yet still flooded through her mind uninvited. It bothered her severely but she merely nodded for now.
"Of course, I keep my word. And besides," thus letting a grin of her own ferally shine on the otherwise soft spring day, "I'm intrested in my half of the deal."
"A wise thief.. we shall do well together." His lips still had failed to move even as the pulsing of his voice riddled her mind, this time she wasn't as patient.
"Let's make a deal huh? You get the hell out of my mind, I co-operate, everyone's happy." Now she was getting snappy still it had yet to phase the man before her.
"I'm sure you remember the differences we share no? I don't speak your language.. the only way I can speak with you is in my own language. Unless you understand Asromian, I suggest you deal with what we do have. Now, what's in the bag?"
How could one argue with logic? She didn't have any retort for that and so she merely nods her acceptance and opens that bag as questioned. Inside was a white latex suit complete with white boots, much like the black she had on when she had met him, and then as they spoke. When his brows raised at such an outfit she merely grinned at him.
"You have your ways.. I have mine. I'm wearing this under the robes provided in case we come against any.... problems." Once more simplistic yet unyeilding to any rejections he might have had to offer. He paused a moment, seemingly holding his breath before nodding to her and folding into himself.
Before she had a chance to ask him what he was doing, the black robes had melded together to form a huge blob, then sank into itself once more. A raven fluttered from the falling shadows and flew onto her shoulder.
"Now, close your eyes." When she obeyed darkness over took her form and dropped her deep into dreams.

Deep into Dreams of Past (Caedia)
Date: 5/3/1999 3:32 PM Central Daylight Time
From: CaediaThrn
----
It was midnight, the darkest of darks for the alley they thrived in, and only the candle gave her any sight whatsoever in the gloom. She turned her head, blonde silk left to scatter against the pillow carelessly as silver eyes stared ahead at the blue caved in mound of wax. The wick had barely enough life left to last much longer and the scent had died long before.
Neteio was slumped over her having spent enough of himself inside her to drop him into a deep fit of sleep. She looked over at him a minute watching as the flame flickered a dreadful dance of shadows across his pale complexion riddled with freckles. Her stomach muscles tightened very carefully to avoid waking what she knew to be her brother then. A spattering of sheets laced amongst three other pair of legs who luckily for her, had been worn out
by the day's activities to bother taking their share of her body.
It was the voices in the kitchen that had garnered the sleepless one's attention mostly because it seemed to be heated and partly because she thought she had heard her name mentioned. Squeezing past the draped over leg of the littlest brother her age she let her fingers dance softly over his cheek as he partially awoke and lulled him back into sleep's embrace.
"-n't you ever feel guilty? I mean, even just a little? She's only seven you know, it just seems wrong."
Her dad's voice or whom she thought was her dad's voice and wouldn't find out until later the truth, smoothed out just as quietly.
"You know how things work Jarred.. the women are either born into greatness and serve far better governments with a little better treatment, or they are born into families like ours and are spoiled rotten. The little snot does nothing but lay around the house and satisfy the boys. Soon we'll marry her off for money and she'll continue there, raising her own family and having kids until a girl arrives to take care of her husbands and son's sexual
needs. It's a cycle. A cycle that continues without end and will continue. So no, I don't feel guilty at all."
For the first time since she understood what was happening to her, she realized that maybe what they were doing was wrong. That maybe she didn't have to put up with what she was going through and could get out.
"Don't worry Anna," the whisper that floated to behind her ear startle her so that she almost cried out in surprise, "I love you.. and it is I who will marry you and keep you safe."
She floated back into his arms then, her bare skin flowing into goosebumps against his. That was the first time since she could remember that anyone in the family had proclaimed their love for her. Something felt wrong.. so very wrong that when they fell back onto the bedding and he entered her she wasn't there, but floating within her mind to find out the answer.
Protect him.. he was always gentle, always delicate with her, and always considerate of her feelings. Protect him. Something inside her chilled with danger and suffering. She couldn't associate the feelings with her present thoughts, but something was wrong with people loving or needing her. They would be let down.. hurt somehow. Protect him.
He was looking down at her now, worry riddling his eyes as she opened hers and smiled up at him. Her lips sought his and as soon as their kiss meshed together, her fingers found the back of his neck.
The break was clean and quick, he collapsed against her without any warning noise that would awake anyone. Even then as she crawled out from under him, she was putting on her clothes quickly yet sufficiently quietly. She knew that what she had done was wrong, and wouldn't be looked upon kindly. It had cleared in her mind, and what she had done.. it wasn't for hatred, it was out of love and consideration for him.
She was running then, running towards the darkness of the alley... and into the light.

The House of Belzare (Caedia)
Date: 5/3/1999 3:37 PM Central Daylight Time
From: CaediaThrn
Her eyes flickered open then squinted as pupils desprately tried to dialate then adjust to the brightness of the room. The light came from above her as the reflections from a grand crystal chandelier. The walls were opaque brilliantly translating the chandelier's light into a fight against gloom. Strange paintings dipicting battles and Gods of some sort hung on the walls. The architecture was splendid racing white
columns arching over as if holding up the very roof while gossamer of deep red swirled lazily towards the floor above the bed she was lying in.
She sat up taking note of the extreeme softness of the matress. Much better than her dreams.
"Good morning.. you've been out for a day, we have much to catch up on." The voice now was gentle as if purring to her from the depths of her being. It was a moment before she spotted the man sitting in the chair across from the vanity.
"The room is beautiful Belzare." It was the first time she had used his name when not under the influence of the leaf or other such, the first time she had spoken so softly in a long time. Perhaps it was the lingering effects of the dream that kept her that way, or perhaps it was really just the elaborate and wonderfully decorated room. Either way, his face still registered a bit of change at her tone and words so that for the first time, he
was speechless and simply nodded.
He waved to a what she recognized as a chinese dressing screen and politely turned his head to the side. She moved behind as his hand suggested to find her bag there complete with all of her belongings. Gratefully she changed into the white latex and slid her feet into the white shiny boots with a grin of her old self.
"It was my daughters." The voice that had been remarkably silent suddenly sprang forth with the tidbit of information startling her into a stand. She gazed at the curtain before her a moment obsorbing that sentance before stepping out to face him. The emotion portrayed in his voice wasn't evident on his face, but she would bet to say that the softening on his features was a product of it. The look on his face prompted a defensive answer that
caught even her unaware.
"It's a light material that is easy to fight in as it allows for movement without hindering. Sir."
The last part caused her to blink but without missing a step she continued about the room allowing her fingers to reach out occassionally and delicately touch things. Was she actually beginning to respect him? Nah.. couldn't be.. she just needed a little more sleep right?
"It's tonight.," She froze then turning to look at him with her surprise at the suddeness. She didn't have to ask anything though as he immediately gave her what she sought, "it's simple, you wear the robes of offering and approach another in the Golden robes. When he holds out his hand, you hold out yours which will be covered with a white glove save for your fingertip which you will present to him. He will check down the line as you will be
with others of what he thinks is your kind."
She interrupted him then trying to comprehend everything he was throwing out so quickly.
"Others? And what kind do you mean? And what the hell am I offering??" She didn't bother to contain the alarm that was creeping into her tone, merely stood there with her hand on her hip. She hadn't gone into this to give anything away.. no matter what he wanted her to "offer".
A grin grew it's way up onto the spindley lips, slowly at first, then he began to laugh. It startled her because it was the first time she had ever head him in any way besides her head. When he spoke again, it was again evading into her mind.
"Ease child, I ask you to offer nothing save for your finger, and even that you will get to keep." She held it up then almost as if looking at it in a different light. It was actually kinda pretty albeit useless for her.
"Your 'kind' is simply a virgin of the clan. At birth, we embed a diamond into the middle of their finger as I have done to you. This diamond as she grows, is decorated with the tattoo's telling of her life also done by the parents or a close relative. When this child mates, it is with one of her own who removes the diamond which may seem painful, but in all honest, hurts less than she does. The male then marries that diamond into a steel cage
and is worn about his neck. This claims that her purity has been taken and claimed and allows no one to infringe upon their unity."
As he began to speak she had sunk down onto the bed once more to listen, fingers absently picked at some invisible dust bunny on her boot.
"And this golden boy? What does he offer?" She hadn't even looked up when asking, content with watching her reflection in the white material.
"The Golden 'priest' as you would call him, checks the purity of all and allows them into the temple where one by one they pick out a symbol for their family to carry on. Whatever she chooses is the symbol that will mark her families name forever. The price? There is a grand alter upon which you will enter.. around the base is gold and jewelry marked with different symbols for the choosing. If one would be so brazen as to try and take of the
middle statues riches, she is marked greedy and banished forever while stripped of her honor and family and rights to the clan."
She nodded slightly, listening more than she would let on, "and my job?"

"There is a golden armband that lays on the statue. Two to be exact. One armcuff twines in a spiral and connects back up at the top to insinuate life ever after. Six stones are on each armband. One contains sapphires which represents death and shadows, the ability to do ill. The other, it's mate and counterpart holds six diamonds which represent life and purity. I only want the one containing the diamonds."
He paused for a moment as if she was the one who needed the time to sort things out, but strangely enough she was up to speed. She couldn't help it though and even with her tone as soft as it was, it didn't seem to soften the blow for him.
"What is it for?" He shook his head then, the planes of his face struggling to remain placcid and stoic although his eyes lost the war. Brown murky depths of eyes swiftly turned to the side, but not before Caedia had noted the sadness that sank into place.
He left then, seeking solace no doubt in a place where he felt better, he however, was the least of her thoughts. A woman came in then, silent as a post and moving just as stiffly yet accurately. Without a word to Caedia, she began to brush the golden silk and put it up in a rather tight bun. That done, the woman then went to a closet and pulled out what seemed to be a huge white sheet.
The huge white sheet turned out to be the robes that she was supposed to wear, and with great delicacy (and a lot of work) they were put into place and wrapped accordingly. The white done, the old woman once more delved into the closet to pull up deep blue fabric with gold trim. Taking that fabric she looped it up over Caedia's head, then trailed it down and twisted the ends. Those ends were taken and reversed to the back so that the blue lay
flat around her head and down past her shoulders and just above her breasts to suddenly shift under her arms. She felt more than saw the old woman tie the ends together mid back, then flatly pushed the tail ends down against the small of her back and down her legs. White gloves were put into place, an odd cut as afforementioned by the Jafar lookalike in the tip of her left forefinger so that the tattoo and diamond shone through.
It was then that hestitaion and true thought coursed through her veins and warily she
stared out into space as the old woman put her together. Belzare walked back in sometime during that, and silvers landed on him.
"The blue represents the beauty of the peacock.. that is why it trails from a knot in the mid of your back to flow out gracefully towards your feet. The white as you well know, for kindness, goodness, and purity."
"All the things of which I'm not." she huffed sarcastically, giving him a taste of his own medicine by forcing that out through her mind. She did manage to turn and smile slightly at him, and reaching her voice out into the open this time she turned back to the old woman.
"What was her symbol?" She knew the old woman wouldn't understand her and even as she stared disapprovingly back at Caedia, the smile remained. Once more she shivered as his voice floated into the real air only this time it was in a language so fast and foreign she couldn't even begin to understand. The woman looked to Belzare a moment, then chuffed back to Caedia.
For a moment a strange flicker of something passed over the wrinkled face before she nodded once and left the room. A moment later, she entered carrying a small gold plate. When presented to Caedia she turned it over to see a beautiful peacock emblazed across the gold surface in the richest of colors. The same blue she wore decorated the tail feathers and body of the magnificent beast while soulfull brown eyes stared bravely across to a horizon
unseen for them.
Fingers wanted to reach out and caress the creature, so taken aback by the power of a simple drawing yet she was afraid it was unallowed. Instead spontaneously, she dropped her head, then dropped to one knee and offered the plate back towards the woman. Surprised, the woman nearly jumped back but held her ground and took the symbol of her family back. Suddenly the face dissolved into a timid smile and she hurried back off to return the
priceless piece back where it came from.
"That's my mother, and for once, you managed to catch her offgaurd."
"Was I wrong?" She didn't have the energy to focus mind thoughts, so she simply spoke aloud to him still on her knee nervously in the flood of white.
"She didn't approve of my methods, nor of your color to try and pull off this stunt, but somehow you've managed a smile out of her. I haven't seen a smile from her in a long time."
Even as he spoke, she was entering the room again. This time olden fingers carried with them a small gold chain and several pins. A small peacock that resembled that of the one on the plate hung gently from the links and was raised up to the top of Caedia's head. She was still kneeling down so the woman had no trouble completing her mission. Like a tiara of a princess, the necklace hung pinned beneath the blue material down to her forehead.
"Bol manificial." The old woman finally spoke and reached out to touch Caedia's cheek. Frozen, the girl kept her position moving only to bow her head and close her eyes before looking up once more.
"That means "Good luck"." The voice in her head was now a comfort as all this attention and emotions welling up in her were rather unnerving.
The last piece was put into place consisting of a white sheet that seemed impossible for her to see through until it was pinned properly. The weave made it possible for her to see out, but no one to see in.
It was time.

The last piece was put into place consisting of a white sheet that seemed impossible for her to see through until it was pinned properly. The weave made it possible for her to see out, but no one to see in.
It was time.

The Temple (Caedia)
Date: 5/3/1999 3:46 PM Central Daylight Time
From: CaediaThrn
The carriage ride was mostly spent with her drowned in her own silence.. watching the trees pass as shadows on the curtained windows. Belzare had insisted that the windows be covered so that she could leave the front drape off of her face and breathe normally. The white latex was hot beneath the robes and adrenaline coursing through her body added nothing but more sweaty heat.
She rubbed the palms of her hands together to get rid of the moist feeling of nervousness. The plan was simle really, show the finger, get into the temple, pick out the symbol and the armband and get out. What's the danger in that?
The danger was that she had no idea what the layout of the building or place was.. she didn't know what the dimensions were, or where at least six possible escape routes were. She didn't have a detailed map in her mind of what she was doing or where things were. Even before Matteo got ahold of her, she was operating this way.. living as a street rat from day to day, but living very high.
The padded white seat offered her little comfort to her plight although it did give her a wonderful ride to the temple. Belzare himself had been quiet himself, probably pondering himself over what was going to occur. He had transformed into a raven who stood proudly on her shoulder and assured her when they first got into the carriage that it was normal in their land. Personally she felt like Eric in The Crow.
"If you get shot, I'm dead." He hadn't laughed, in fact, he hadn't done much but cock his beak at her and blink. She just grinned to herself and shook her head before climbing in.
Now that the destination had reached it's end, her stomach dropped quickly as if on it's own private roller coaster and she drug in a big breath of calming before dropping the drape. Sight was almost as good as perfect yet that still failed to calm her. When the coachmen opened the door her mouth literally dropped open behind the safety of the drape.

The temple was enormous compared to the little dinky thing she was expecting and quite suddenly she felt like Aladdin entering Agrabah. Golden stones glinted in the somewhat scattering daylight, and speckles of white glimmered off to give it a jeweled effect. The doorway stood in front between two large columns made of marble and was etched with the same artistic hand that seemed to be godly in itself. Although
none of the ruins made any sense to Caedia, she sucked in a breath impressed and marveled at it's beauty. The door was actually two doors, split in the middle of an upside down u, and was currently closed. Two large brass rings offered a way in but was unattended by anyone for actual instructions. Large trees covered the whole place in behind as if the castle had been mowed in front of to leave it bare in front, but hide if from behind. The roof
was mostly hidden by the leaves of the tree but left an impression of a dome as if something inside were trying to blow the top off to make a bubble.
(qm)"So this is what a mouse feels like?" Immediately a pulse rippled through her mind in warning for her to shut up before someone heard. Responding with a simple picture in her mind of a slamming door, she stepped down gracefully making sure that the robes always stayed lower than her feet. The white gloves went up to her elbows shrouding the already white latex clad arms and protecting her hands from the potential danger of them noticing.
Just when she was wanting to turn around and give up, she noticed another shrouded much like her only with a splash of bright pink. Her hands also were wrapped in white gloves and most likely had the fingerpad of her left hand cut out also. Caedia wasn't going to go try and talk with the woman to find out. Two more women showed up a bit later, all dressed similar to her.
"Six. Go." The words melted from her mind as she tried to watch the speed of her steps. She wanted so much to run like hell, break in, grab the thing and run out before anyone could realize what was going on.
No one had been near the door, but as they walked up on it it began to open. Caedia shuttered. Pink was in the lead, followed closely by yellow, and Caedia struggled to get as close to the middle as possible. She didn't want to be first or last in this procession as it was best to know what you were doing before actually gaining lead. Purple was ahead of her and a very light blue was behind her, all shrouded in the same fashion she had been.
It began to facinate her how precise these people were.
There was a long hallway filled with bamboo masks and iron masks ranging from happy to sad.. angry and fierce to playful and silly. Leaves in the form of large paddles decorated with an eerie touch of nature. Flowers interlaced along the blades of the leaves and down the stems... however that added very little color as they were all dried and dark looking. Candles lit their way, huddling in the vicinity of twigs wrapped and leaves dried to
create a dim yet operable light.

She couldn't see much on the way as the robes were what she was following, and their faces seemed to be cast downwards. Trying to fit in as best as possible so as not to attract attention. The urge to sing "You'll bring honor to us all..." was great, but some how she managed to drown that by counting the steps down the hall.
Suddenly the hall opened up into a large room and the white robes before her spread suddenly so that they formed a line horizontal from the opposite wall. It was just as dark in the hallway but more silent as if time stood still here. A small inlain pond lay in the middle of the room, the square size giving enough room for two women to kneel on the edge of each side. Forming a u once more, Caedia ended up on the side parrellel to the wall and
was kind of grateful she didn't really have to adjust.
The others were suddenly getting shorter and just in time Caedia realized what was going on in time to sink slowly to her own knees. They knelt and each with their left hand extended their fingers to touch the water reverently, then their forehead.
Caedia was a bit slow on each move, but reflected each as if she knew exactly what she was doing. Belzare had flown ahead when she had first entered the temple and was somewhere above her. She had dared to look up only briefly and was startled to see vines and limbs growing as if the very roof wasn't made of the solid stone it looked from the front, but was merely the trees grown close together.
Where the man came from she had no idea but suddenly they were standing up again with their left hands extended. The man resembled a shorter much more wrinkled man than Belzare and much more wiser looking. Caedia had been too enthralled with the water and the powerful significance that she was late and hastily stood up. Her left hand snaked out, fingerpad complete with tattoo and diamond sticking up as Belzare had previously instructed her to
do.

The procedure was simple, he came over and waved his hand in front of her with murmered words in the language she didn't quite understand save for the word 'manificieal' which made her perk with happiness at knowing at least part of what was going on. The pattern his hand moved in front of her signified something important as each word seemed to flow with the movement and end specifically. He looked at the diamond
as he spoke as if it was to it instead of her he was speaking... maybe he was.
She was let off the hook as he moved off with a bow that she returned, to the lighter blue color and began repeating the same actions.
It was getting hotter and hotter beneath the robes with her nervousness and she struggled to maintain an easy breathing pattern. White boots tapped silently on the floor beneath them keeping her antsiness laboring in a less noticeable area. Finally it was her turn to enter the door in the middle of the wall... and with it barely open she found herself in a trance.
The room was everything a story book could ever offer to her imagination.. Puddles upon layers upon floods of gold coins lined the floor for walking on, and treasures piled upon each other to form mountains of wonder. She felt as if she were lost on the set for some barbarian movie and happened upon the prop room. Belzare had been unable to follow her in there as the door had been shut promptly behind her, but she knew what she was aiming for,
she just had to get over the swell of wonder and find it.
In the middle of the room the statue was as promised, gleaming lazily from some unseen light that seemed to decend from the heavens themselves. While many necklaces and other such pendants hung off of the endless limbs portraying from the golden tree, her focus was on the two bracelets that lined the trunk. The way the light shimmered upon them made them seem animated as if they were moving and not the light.
The only thing that Belzare had mistaken, was that the armband he wanted was gold, twirling in the shape of a spring and laced with the six diamonds as promised... but the one with the sapphires was actually silver. Same shape, same size, but it was as if the silver were making a statement with the silver as if casting death as pale and cold.
She was enraptured.

"Only gather the one with the diamonds and bring it to me.. you may have whatever else you want and can glean off of your visit." He had said anything she wanted as long as it wasn't plucked from the actual tree statue... and these weren't.
She piddled around a bit looking at a few more articles of the riches and decided her heart was set on the silver armband. Carefully she picked the silver one up and turned it over.. marveling at the cold, the strength and power such an item held. After only a moments hesitation she slipped it on her arm and shivered even as all it touched was white latex.
She felt enchanting.
The gold one was quickly picked up as she turned to leave the room and slid onto her other arm. As she neared the door, her fingers dropped down to scoop up some gold pieces and lifted the robe to tuck them neatly in the side of her tight boots. It was when she opened the door that the trouble began.
A hand grabbed her roughly from the side and jerked her towards him muttering angrily in that language. He hissed at her and jerked her sleeves up to reveal both armbands. Frozen in fear, she looked up wondering who he was and what exactly was going on. He was massive with eyes of brown that seemed to strike deep into her core.. and even through the drape she could see the anger that lit them. Quickly she jerked her wrist in the direction of
his thumbs to escape his grasp. Luckily the move surprised him and she had an edge.
Working quickly, she ripped the drape and hood off making sure to tuck the peacock necklace into the top of her outfit for safe keeping. Why she managed to do that she'd never know.. perhaps it was a comfort for her. A token of luck in her mind. She had seen two passages on either side of the far wall they had faced when coming in. Time kneeling in front of the sacred poolwaterthing had bade her time to study that. Now after the passage
ways..... well.
She had taken several steps back from the bigger man and located the old man who had blessed her before entering the room of gold. The white robed ones were in some kind of shock or fear of her for they had shrank back immediately when he spoke.
Shift, spin, push.. and instead of the backwards motion she had been going in, she switched inertia's laws to propel her forwards again confusing the gaurd. She darted around him and raced towards the opening of the sides. It was darker there in those halls and she ran blindly with her hands in front to guide her. Her hands smashed against a wall and for a moment she thought she was trapped until her body shifted to the side and was greeted
with nothing but air.

The hallway had made a ninety degree turn to the right only to stop once more and continue snaking backwards in the same direction she had previously been heading. Probably some trick to hide the true destination of the halls ending.
Her eyes startled at the brightness the world had to offer as she thought she'd been in there for hours but apparently only for a few minutes. The brightness cut across her eyes momentarily blinding her from seeing where exactly she was. It was the backyard, riddled with trees another flowing fountain and cots where the people in the temple must live and study. She had turned to look back at the temple to see if the gaurd was following her and
didn't even know what she hit.
Darkness flooded her body dragging her down into an abyss of silence. When she woke up her body was being carried across the shoulder of the gaurd she hit, and the previous gaurd was following close. Her carrier dropped her down grunting with a bit of happiness that she was awake and could hold her own weight as he dropped the noose about her neck. She was too groggy to pull her get away movements and could only choke as the noose tightened.
A mouse had clambored up on the wooden hangman's platform and after much poking around, (and much to the gaurds delight), crawled up Caedia's leg. She screamed.
