A day in the Life.. (Caedia)

She was not the type of person to piss off with a gun. She was also not the type who took a threat to her life very well. In fact, she was not the type of person who offered patience of any sort well. Three guys had found that out. Rask was going to kill her.

Jen's room, now known to Caedia as a death trap, was in front of her. She was huddled in the dark.. in a corner.. not the least bit afraid, but instead huddled like a wolf patiently stalking it's prey. It wasn't all dark, there was a small flame on a very tall candle furthest from the one in the dark. It was the candle that would give away Rask's heartattack.

Jen's room had been totally ransacked.. things strewn everywhere and other things slaughtered. They had been doing one of two things. Looking for something, or leaving Jen a warning message. Either way, they had been interrupted.

-------

Dueling was over.. some guy had asked Caedia what she did for a living and then walked off after calling her by her real name, something that she herself had only discovered months ago. After he had left, she had sat there in total disbelief, rage and animosity building almost instantly. It had been bad enough that Tareth hadn't been himself that night.. now something else weird had to come along and knock her offbalance. Great. She had had
enough, and was ready to go to a nice hot bath and then to bed... possibly to snuggle next to her new bedwarmer.

This, however, was the Outback.. you really think that happened? Of course not.

Bane managed to get her off her rear and upstairs at least.. dislodging her anger briefly and she plopped face down on her bed. Jen followed with the behesting of Bane and the next thing Caedia knew, Jen was shrieking down the hall.

Blinking into automatic action, she had flipped herself to her bedstand and grabbed her gun and three clips.. the fourth was already loaded into the grip. She then slid out into the hallway. Bane was out in the hall, Jen however, was no where to be seen... for a few minutes. It suddenly happened all at once. She was prepared, the anger already having set adrenaline into motion.. and this, was her bag baby.

Jen had come out of her room and Caedia slipped nearer to see the three sets of glowing eyes. Crapcrapcrapcrapcrap. Did I mention crap? And do you want to know why crap was the perfect word? Because one of those glowing eyed creeps ran full throttle at Bane's waiting elbow.. not even flinching as he was got a free prostrate exam. Now I bet even you are saying crap.

It was then that Caedia's true talent was shown. Sometimes she may not duel well, but when it came to shooting, she could shoot the wick off of a candle several yards away and put out the flame. This prostrate free guy found out quick just how good of a marksmen she was.

Tareth's arrogance was shown fully in her when the other two taunted and threatened to come get Jen, Caedia safely in front of her and wasn't planning on moving awhile. Besides, she had the advantage of being from the future and loaded with a gun.. sometimes it paid off to have her background. Bane stood in front of Caedia, and with the two of them working... they soon showed who had the upperhand.

One of Tareth's marbles came in handy as Caedia used it to light the room for a better view. Unfortunantly, it gave view to Bane being hit by a laser gun, but fortunantly, it also showed the laser shooter getting impaled by a well thrown sword by Bane. Didn't know swords could fly didja? Lesson over, test later.. class dismissed.

The marble from Tareth also proved to be useful in the sense that it gave Caedia yet another upper hand. They couldn't stand light. Very nice. Very helpful.. anything that blinds a foe was worth something.

Unfortunantly, the third guy didn't learn anything from watching the first two and began hurling himself at Jen... ... Bane tried to stop him from grabbing his ankles, but it only made the guy have to crawl forwards. It's sad when a man loses his head over a woman, but when he got too close for Caedia's comfort, she put an end to his miserable life as well, and with a nicely aimed bullet, his head would never be put back together again.

---------

Now she sat here, the three guys still in the room with her, all set up neatly in different places.

The first guy to have died was set in the chair by the wall, propped up as if he were getting ready to have a drink and a long discussion with friends. The second was now hanging from the ceiling with some twisted frayed rope, grotesquely stuck (thanks to the blood) to the wall near the headless goonman.

The guy without a head was placed on Jen's bed facing the door, neatly sitting up as well as if he were going to read before going to bed. It was the one with the sword through him and the message on the wall with blood that was the most chilling.

"Death is mercy."

She waited there in the dark.. blood spattered white shirt tied at her waist, and the soft brown pants clinging to her hips. The gun was in her lap, Tareth's neat little marble in her hand, and a deadly look in mercurial gaze. She had slept all day after completing her job from yesterday, and was prepared to stay up all night if she had to. Some sucker had to come when the other's didn't return.

She was waiting.

She had moved little over the course of the night, and the most movement was contributed to the gun as she emptied the clip with only seven bullets left and replaced it with a fresh one. She had four clips.. she could handle what came at her.

She had taken a deep breath.. relaxed.. calm.. poised. A perfect image of the hungry wolf. The candle flickered.. the light waned, and the air stirred. Then stillness.

Darkness was a plague upon many.. a tyrant out to swipe the candy from babies and left others weakened and powerless. Souls in torment, the night's wicked curse an icy breath upon warm safety. This was not her case. She had grown up on the streets, faced with many attacks, many things to which writers only write about.. She had lived through those. She was waiting.

As always, patience was rewarded, and quicker than she expected. She heard the scratch of the key inserted into the door knob. Her gun arm raised stealthily.. still lost in the murky depths of swirling shadows. The candle's flame shrunk further as if afraid of the new visitors. The door opened.

"Easy boys.. We don't know how bad they are.."

She sat as still as a statue as the three men piled in, eyes aglow as the first trio had. Mercurial gaze narrowed, her muscles as tense as a violin.. and this time, her debut was going to be a solo.

"Oh. Shit." It was the key holders voice as the candlelight lead him view to the other three, not a pleasant voice at that.. and not at all pleased with the sight before him.

The others joined their comrade to see what the upsettion was about, and their eyes widened. In the corner, the wolf grinned.

"You don't think she finally got the strength to fight back do you?" Mr. Lefty.

"She wouldn't dare.. either way, it's going to end soon. Boss is *not* going to be happy about this. I don't see why he doesn't just order her death and get it over with instead of stringing it along."

For the first time, the voice from the corner spoke up, low, deadly.. and full of venomous amusement.

"I don't see why he doesn't send smarter people."

It was almost comical the way they sprung into action, all fumbling quickly for their laser guns. Standing carefully, her gun still trained on them, she shook the marble in her hand.. it wasn't as bright as last time, but it was still bright enough for all three to cringe and turn, their hands automatically going to shield their eyes. They tried to shoot.. but only managed to graze her leg while aiming for that marble thing.

Wincing at the sheer pain of burning skin, she recoiled and turn shooting the two sidemen and disposing of them quickly. The first keyholder was dealt a swift roundhouse to his head as he was trying to blink the blindness away.. his gun hit the floor clattering.

"Misery loves company." That was all she said before he hit the floor. She bent down and plucked the key to Jen's room out of his hand before dragging him up into a chair.

It was quicker than she would have liked when the groaning began, he coming back awake.. but that was okay.. a swift blow to his temple with the gun sealed the darkness for him a bit longer.

"You might want to sleep that headache off." Besides, she was busy trying to tie the man up.. with the rest of the rope that wasn't frayed.. and after seeing the guy take a hit and not even worry that much, she wasn't taking precautions. He was well tied up by the time he woke again.

"Alright, pay attention. I want answers."

"Who are you?" His voice was still unpleasant, she should have kept the other guy alive.. nevertheless, he seemed to be the 'boss' of that trio and here she was. No rewind button.

"Jen's twin sister Brunhilda, now shut up, you weren't listening. I said *I* want answers." Her patience was short, voice temper shorter.

"Do you sick goons always travel in triplets? Or are you just scared to go to the bathroom alone and end up here? Hmm?" Twin brows raised over the icy silver rivers of her regard.

"Go to hell." She shot his knee, he doubled over in pain for a moment and spit out blood.

"I've lived there before. Not a pleasant thing." She was speaking now as if she were talking to a friend who said she wanted to move to New York. "My answer?"

He was silent, she sighed.

"Who's the head of this "Company" thing I've heard about eh?"

He spit at her.. silent all the same. She sighed again and shot the palm of his left hand. He cringed, gritted his teeth, and spit again, this time to the floor.

"You tell him Jen's no longer his concern. She has a gun and will kill every last one of you stupid little scumballs. Gotit?," she was grinning savagely now into those glowing eyes, "tell him I'm a permanent resident."

She moved the gun so that the muzzle pointed right between his legs.

"One last time.. what's the name of this Company? And don't think I wont."

For the first time, he looked panicked his lips parted.. and someone knocked on the door. As it was still barely open, a tall man poked his head in. It was the distraction that the keyholder needed. Suddenly his weight shifted back causing the chair to stumble and fall and break under his weight. Faster than should be possible, he jerked on his ropes and broke free.. then with sudden panic, flew out the door after nailing the stranger to the
wall. Caedia swore, her gun trained on him but unable to get a clear shot without hurting the intruder. That one at least she had wanted to live, but she had had a few more questions.

"Who the hell are you?" Her voice was hardly in the least pleasant.

"I think it's the other way around," his voice was hesitant as he looked around the room and realized he was standing in blood, "I was looking for Jen."

"Who isn't? Take a number, and I'll evaluate you later." Her eyes narrowed at him, the gun still on him, and his face wasn't pleasant either.

"Who are you?"

She sighed, tired of this charade. "Jen's twin sister Brunhilda, now go away."

He shook his head, "You look nothing like her, and she doesn't have a twin."

She shot a warning shot at his foot causing him to jump back in alarm and eye her warily.. his sword now out and in front of him.

"I'm her husband, Eric,"

"That's great. Leave now. Jen doesn't live here anymore." She hadn't cared that she had interrupted him in the least, she wasn't in the mood to figure things out.

He seemed to accept that and backed out of the room slowly.

She woke in a dark room.. confusion set in. For a brief instant she was fearing the worst, fearing a place in the past, then her eyes grew accostomed to the darkness and the first thing she saw her her brother.. her real brother sitting in the chair across from her. For the first time in several days, she smiled.. a real smile. Then she moved. The smile was gone.

She was still sore as all hades and couldn't really recall much of last night.. or how in the world she was in her brother's room. She recalled Bane gathering his stuff last night, this time she presumed, for good.. and leaving. She recalled trying to duel Jen.. and recalled vaguely the woman carrying her somewhere. Other than that, her night was hazy. No more medication for her. The pain would be dealt with on a more personal level, she
hadn't fought her way from being a druggie just to sink back in at the first sign of pain.

Quietly sneaking out of the bed, she pulled the comforter off the bed and carefully placed it over Tareth before sliding out of his door and taking the key that was on the floor. She had work to do.

She had stolen both keys to Jen's room for a reason.. there was no way she was going to let Jen come back to this room in this condition.. if even at all. She was wary, but Jen was her own person.. who was she really to stop someone from living? She unlocked the door and swung it open. The sight was horrid, the smell was worse.

Opening a few windows, she exited around to the back of the Outback and in a small clearing in the woods a bit away from the backdoor, she made a clearing. Armed with an axe (and still in the blood stained clothes with the laser burn) she moved deeper in the woods and began cutting off dead branches of trees and dragged them back to the clearing. Several trips were made.. a bunch of sweat was released, and by the time she was done, she had a
neat little bonfire waiting.

Back into the Outback she went and up to Jen's room. One at a time she moved the bodies down the stairs and out the back door. The work was tedious, and she was tired.. but she managed to get all of the men out of the back door and onto the dry wood. She wasn't taking any chances. Once ready, she lit a fire and stood back.

The smell was hideous, but she was busy digging a deep but relatively small hole. The fire was still readily going once she finished the hole so she went back inside to start scrubbing the blood stains off of the floor and stairs. It was when she finally had Jen's room cleared of all blood and had somewhat straightened it to a livable place that the fire had gone down and was ready for clearing.

She had done a meticulous job cleaning Jen's room, but the way she broke the fire up, discarded the dying embers (after pouring water on them of course) and buried the bones, you'd think she was an obsessive compulsive.

Dirt packed well.. forest cleared once more, Jen's room and the Outback floor shining like brand new, and the air smelling fresher.. she allowed herself to sink back into her brother's room and into a hot shower. She more than deserved it.
