Ya can't always get what ya want, aka the Death of an Opal

So close, yet so far. Kheld was well on his way to being persuaded to thieve the other opals, thanks to a small amount of magick, and several half-truths. The first night's talk had gone relatively well, she thought. Unknowingly, Daelin and Avery had helped her, showing signs of problems with their Opals. It seemed the fire was called without Avery's active participation, and Jaycy had been silently observing Daelin
become ... odd since gaining IceDancer. Cas helped too; he knew something was wrong with Daelin and confirmed Jaycy's words to the PathFinder holder.

A slight tug of shadow magick planted the seed of doubt in Kheld's mind regarding the safety of the Duel of Fists, due to the other opal holders. Soon, they together would hold the five Opals, and Jaycy would have access to them all. The thought brought a dark smile to her lips as she paced the length of her office, planning her next move.

She did not sleep, for the night was her time, but instead she waited. She would find Kheld the next night and begin the work of opal collection. There was also another aspect to her plan she must ponder ... the growing relationship between the gypsy and that man. All was well between them, but gods, too slow. The dark, living force within knew it couldn't control Jaycy during the relationship, to force her thinking and actions toward him would
be a costly, if not deadly, mistake. It merely had to content itself, controlling the gypsy as she did Kheldar, nudging and tugging at her thoughts.

Patience was a virtue.

The next evening, in her search for Kheldar, she came across Lyon, unexpectedly. She hadn't seen him in some days, and his face was a welcome one in the Arena. After a few moment's conversation with Dustin and Phantom about TDL, she made her way to him. For not the first time, she thought it was odd how she had never really noticed Lyon before, as she talked to him. He was charming, a joy to talk to, and a challenge.
All at once around him she felt both shy and brazen in her flirtations. Getting to know him better was becoming swiftly a top priority.

He had a match not long after she met him that night, and asked if he would mind if she attended. Of course she was welcome, was the answer, and she left in high spirits to go meet someone at her shop before the match.

The meeting went well and she attended the TDL match with a lightness to her step. Jaycy quite enjoyed his company over the course of the evening, and after a long private discussion at the Towers, he was called away. Restlessly, she made her way to the Arena, cradling the yellow rose in her gauntleted good arm.

There he was. Kheldar was at the bar, and she made her way there swiftly. Now, the dark side of the gypsy thought, now is the time to begin the work of taking the other opals. It had been thinking in the last evening, it had been wondering if the other holders would allow Jaycy and Kheld to "borrow" the opals, if even for a few minutes. No, it thought, they would not. So they would have to steal them.

Vocally, Jaycy said as much to Kheldar, and not long after, they began to get in an argument. Something was wrong; the magick refused to sway him this time. He didn't believe what Jaycy planned was right, and eventually told her no, he wouldn't help her. His parting words rang in her mind.

"The only way you'll get a hold of PathFinder is if ya kill me or get someone to challenge me." With that statement, he left, and Jaycy's mind raced. Kill him, she thought. She could do that. Swiftly, her plans changed. Kheldar wouldn't help her; okay, Kheldar would die. Tonight.

Jaycy spent a few more moments in the Arena, arguing with Cassius, before storming out, apparently angry with her SwordBrother. Kheld was barely visible in the distance, and she raced to make up some of the gap. Stealthily she followed him home, and waited outside the cottage for some time.

It was mere child's play, getting into his home. The door was locked, but not mage-guarded, and easily opened. Silently the gypsy moved in and stopped, looking around. Before her were a set of stairs, behind them a small kitchen. She stood in a living room type area, and there was a hallway off to her right.

Quickly she searched the hallway, looking for the man's bedroom. Finding nothing but some closets and a bathroom, she hurried again to the steps, and up. At the top was a closed door, and after listening through it a few moments, she heard the deep, regular breathing of one sleeping. Smirking, she opened the door and stepped through, to find Kheld in his bed toward the right, PathFinder in its gauntlet on the nightstand.

She studied him a moment; Kheldar was a handsome man. It was such a shame he couldn't be manipulated, a shame he would have to die. He would have made a good toy. Inwardly, she sighed. Whether it was because of her train of thought, or whether somehow the good gypsy knew what was to happen, who knows.

She didn't want to wake him, and silently lifted an arm, calling to the power of night's shadows. They rose to their mistress, awaiting instructions. She pointed to the sleeping man and uttered one word. "Kill." They swooped down upon him, enveloping him in a suffocating embrace. He woke, but was unable to fend the shadows off, and after a struggle to get to PathFinder, he died.

Jaycy went to pick up the fallen gauntlet, glancing to the man as she went. "You should learn to share your toys, Kheldar." she remarked. Taking the gauntlet with the Opal, she moved toward the door, and out.

"Good night, sweet prince."

Down the steps she went, her task not yet complete. She again found herself in the kitchen, and padded to the stove. First she turned it on, then she pulled out a paper. A moment's glance told her it was a TDL report; a record of her playoff loss. Without a hint of regret she lit the paper on fire, and threw it on a small pile of trash. A moment later a can of oil was pulled from a pocket, and its contents poured over the trash.

As the fire caught the oil, Jaycy took gauntlet and can and sauntered out, leaving the house, and Kheld's body, to burn.

Saturday morning found Jaycy in the Outback, tacking up a note. The gauntlet holding PathFinder remained in Jaycy's bag, ShadoWeaver secure on her arm, she left notice of her absence for the next week. As an opal holder, she had a responsibility to do so.

Patrons of the Outback,

For the next week I will be unavailable, for personal reasons. Should any wish to challenge for the right to hold ShadoWeaver, I shall answer when I return.

Jaycynda Ashleana
Lady of Bryony
Holder of the Black Opal, ShadoWeaver

With that, she took her bag and slung it over her good arm. Jaycy made her way out, to spend the week learning how to use not one, but two Opals.
