After their brief discussion upon his return, Daemon wasn't sure that Khrysta was pleased with his new look. When a message camesaying a child needed healing, she practically jumped at the chance to go. Had he alienated his wife he wondered. He was gone and she was forced to endure knowing that there was a warrant out for her life. What had he done.
He hadn't even asked where Brianna was. 'I'll see you back at the cottage' he called out as she ran on ahead of him. For a few minutes he stood there contemplating returning to the arena and dueling away his frustrations. His own feelings of failure. He descided against it then goton his machine and headed back to their cottage.
Their door was locked and that was a good sign. He opened the door and went inside. There was a note from his sister on the table.
Khrys,
Had to run. Brianna is sleeping. See you tomorrow
£isa
Daemon went into his room, and began undressing. He left the lights unlit using his infravision to see. Brianna looked up at him from where she had been sleeping on the bed. 'Daddy?' Daemon was in shock. Not only did she say daddy, but she made it sound like a question. Boy they grow up fast he thought.
"It's alright baby, daddy's home. Wow, you've grown in a week. I bet you're walking already." The child responded in a very Khrysta-like mannor. 'Ayup'. "Well, you're on daddy's pillow so move over because daddy is very tired. The child moved over and Daemon crawled into bed. He didn't know what they would do when Khrysta got home. It was obvious they needed a bigger place.
Daemon's sleep was troubled by nightmares. He awoke in a cold sweat. In his dream Khrysta was bound and gaged and bleeding from quite a few places. He went out to the drawing room to see if she was sleeping on the sette. The sun was begining to rise on a new day. It was not like Khrysta to stay out all night. He grabed theScimitar of Knowledge out of it's scabbard. Holding it inhis right hand, he concentrated.
Nothing. Of course, his bio series whatever arm was incapable of transmitting the messages. He switched hands and tried again. He was horrified by what he saw. His dream had been more than a dream, it had become reality. Khrysta was cold and alone in a dark place. His wife, missing and it had been all his fault.
"Brianna, get dressed. Daddy's taking you to stay with Lady Sher and Baron Bird I have some business that requires my immediate attention."
"Mommy?" the child asked.
"That's right baby. Daddy is going after the bad men who took mommy. And he's gonna get her back, then there will be hell to pay.

"Well, do you know when the Baron or Lady will return?" Daemon asked the house maid. She told him again that she did not. "Very well, may I have a sheet of parchment." Daemon had hisnon magical cloak on with the hood up to keep his face out of sight. He wore riding gloves that went underneath his tunic's long sleeve.
After quickly penning a letter to his friends, he gave Brianna a hug and kiss. "Be good, and try not to get in the way. the nice lady has work to do. "But M'Lord, you cannot leave the child here." the maid insisted. Daemon uncovered his head and stared at the woman, his false eye rotating in order to focus. He moved his hair from the left to all hang on the right showing his half bald head. "She cannot go where I am going."
The woman fainted and Daemon turned to his daughter. "She'll need some water when she comes around." He leaned down and kissed he forehead once more. That's when he noticed the birthmark. He didn't ask, but he was sure it hadn't always been there. Then he turned and was off to his one last stop. Home of the Valheru, to see the Dragon Lord Uziel.

"The Dragon Lord is at the arena M'lord" The guards informed Daemon upon his reaching the fields of the Valheru.
"You're kidding right?" It was a retorical question, Daemon knew the guards would not lie to him. Of all places, he hadn't thought to look for Adonai in the Arena. Now he had wasted half a day traveling from one place to another. By the time he returned to Rhydin, they bounty hunters, could be half-way to where ever it was they were taking his wife. Andwhat of the child Ylsbyth, she was missing as well.
Upon walking into the arena Daemon found his friend. He had to turn his head a few times, there was an auction going on. "Adonai, they have taken Khrysta" he explained. "I will be going after them, and I need your help. I can see you are busy. I will return later, I must find their trail before it gets cold."
An idea hit Daemon and he went directly to the local print shop. "I need some scrolls made. NOW!" The scribe was shaking in his boots at the sight of the albino. He thought this a good thing. "Look, I am only a simple man. I mean you no harm, but some bad men have taken my wife." A piece of parchment on the floor caught Daemon's eye. Itwas a copy of the Death Warrant.
"What is this? You are in league with the vile creatures that have stolen my wife from me." Daemon turned to the door and locked it. He flipped the Open sign around so thatit read 'Closed for the night' then drew the curtains. "O.K. now, lets see just what you remember about the person who ordered these." He withdrew the Scimitar of Knowledge and held it before the man.
"This is the Scimitar of Knowledge," he began. "I can use it to extract the information I desire, he twirled it over in his mechanical hand. Or, we can do it the old fashion way, the choice is yours."
"Oh. . Old Fashion way?" The scribe was brave enough to ask.
"Yes," Daemon responded, sheathing the blade. I can beat the information out of you. With a single swing, he collapsed the scribe's oaken work bench. Two quick punches had the printing press in pieces. "Now, which will it be?"

"M' Lord, I swear to you that is all I know. The lord came in and asked for the parchments. I am a business man, making scrolls is how I make my living. I do not get involved in what the posts are used for." The scribe was bleeding from a cut on his head. The workshop lay in ruins.
Daemon had chosen the old fashion way. Fortunately for the scribe, he had chose to destroy the shop with each question the man couldn't answer. He stopped his distruction and came to stand before the man. Withdrawing the Scimitar of Knowledge, he held it to the man's breast.
"Very well sir, I want you to think back to that day. Think hard about the day and put your hands on the blade. It will take the memories from your head and give them to me." Daemon put his left hand on the blade's hilt so as not to impede the blade's magic. The shop keep was thinking of the day and the images were flowing into Daemon's mind.
The man was a northerner Daemon could tell. He was dressed to warm for the vicinity of Rhydin town. His horse was wearing a heavy blanket and the packs on the animal were full indicating that he would be traveling back north and not further south. The gold the man used to pay was stamped with a symbol Daemon had never seen before. "I am pleased with your memories. Would you have any of the gold left that the man paid with?" The scribe nodded,
to terrified to move.
Daemon pulled the blade away quickly, slicing the man's hands before sheating the blade. "Well, go get it!" the scribe did as he was told, quickly returning with a sack of gold coins. The scribe told Daemon that this was all the money that the man had paid with. "You remember that day old man. I want there to be no mistakes that is the day you died." Daemon moved impossibly fast and within minutes the old man was a lifeless hump of flesh.
Daemon was covered with blood and headed back to the arena. He still had some frustrations to get out but it seemed no one would duel him. He mounted Khrysta's white steed and headed north as fast as the animal would go. He would have to return and thank that warlord who wouldn't duel him. It was just the extra bit he needed to get his rage up. Daemon pushed the horse hard, he had to beat the bandits to Valensa.

When Daemon had ridden past the known lands surrounding Rhydin, he put apatch over his left eye. He stopped and asked about the land of Valensa. North East was about the only response the people in this outlying hamlet knew. He inquired of the bounty hunters, but as he had suspected, they had circumvented the town. This could work to his advantage. He could travel the direct route, but the hunters would be avoiding detection until they were safely
within the limits of Valensa. He descide to ask of them nomore.
The horse moved gracelessly, it seemed to know the importance of Daemon's ride and accepted it's duty in the matter. For that Daemon was thankful. The horse wasn't burdened with supplies and everyonce in a while Daemon would dismount and walk alongside the animal. He stopped to eat a quick meal in the next hamlet and paid with Valensian coin. He knew he was getting close as the money was accepted and his change returned bearing the same markings.
"How far to the castle proper?" he asked the man sitting next to him. His tabbard bared the same marking as Adonai had described on the bounty hunter.
"How far to the castle proper
"Half a days ride stranger," came the response. "What business have you with the Prince?"
"I am a sell sword who wishes to offer my services to the prince as a body guard."
"And why would his prince be needing a body guard?" the soldier asked.
"Khrystal Death has elluded her bounty hunter's, she is coming for him."
"I must go warn the prince. You will come with me and tell him yourself. He hate's bad news." The soldier rose and Daemon smiled. 'Too Easy' he thought to himself. He would be escorted right to the Prince. He followed the man out the door and brought his steed to a canter alongside. The two rode in silence and were at the 'Castle' a few hours before dawn.
Valensa was a small kingdom mostly comprised of farm lands and the peasants that worked the farm lands for the crown. The castle if you can call it that was more of a large fortress set back in the Royal Forests in the very center of the kingdom. There were two guards on watch but they didn't stop the soldier and his companion. He dismounted and entered a few paces behind the soilder.
Daemon was made to wait outside the Grand Hall while the Prince was summoned. A short while later he was escorted in, a guard on either side of him. He knelt before the prince. And looked at the floor. His left hand removed his boot dagger and kept it out of sight.
"This better be important, I hate being woken up in the middle of the night." the prince spoke. "You there, I understand you are a sell sword that wishes to enter into my service. Why do you feel that I need another body guard?"
"My lord," Daemon began rasing his head slightly. "It is about the Assassin known as Khrystal Death." The prince took a more serious posture. "Your life is in grave danger, as we speak."
"Go on," the prince commanded more than a bit concerned.
"It seems she was captured, and is being brought here right now." The prince relaxed a bit.
"Then what is the concern?" The solider whom had brought Daemon here gave him a suspicious look and tried to speak to the prince. "Be quite, I will hear the rest of what the stranger has to say."
"Well your highness, as luck would have it, her husband has set out after the bounty hunters and after you as well." The solider was estatic and moved forward with his sword. Daemon had no more time to waste on being coy. "It would appear that he has made it into your fortress and your life is now forfiet." The Prince sat up in shock, Daemon jumped to his feet hurling the dagger at the oncoming solider and hitting him square in the throat.
"Guards!" The prince yelled out, and the room began to fill with soldiers. Daemon tumbled to the dias and grabbed the prince with his left hand. A guard charged Daemon before he could get his sword out. Daemon Parried the blade with his right arm and punched the guard all in the same motion colapsing him to the floor. The guards formed up but were hesitant to charge the albino.
"You all don't have to die," Daemon calmly stated. "He lifted the patch that had been covering his mechanical eye. "But it makes no difference to me. I am a simply man, with simple needs. I want my wife back, that is all. And to insure that this doesn't happen again, I am going to make an example out of your prince. Any questions?"

A man steped forward from the gathered soliders. "I am Degran, captain of the Prince's Royal guard. I would ask that you release my lord. Sir, the odds here are not in your favor as surely you cannot defeat us all. If you cooperate, I can promise you a swift death."
Daemon had to laugh and Degran tensed a bit. "I have already stated that you all do not have to die. Captain, I understand your dedication to you lord. Pledge your servitude to me, and I shall spare you men. If not, I can promise that your death will be along and drawnout process."
Degran's jaw dropped. "Get him!" He commanded. A contingent of guards rushed forward and Daemon knew he would be hard pressed to fight while holding onto the prince. With his right arm, he grabed hold of the prince's leg and tore it from his body. The guards paused, and Daemon used the leg as a club on the closest one.
His swords came out in a flash and in moments the first five guards were in various stages of death on the floor. Degran's shout to advance wasn't as quickly obeyed this time. "It seems your men are not so ready to die for your beloved prince." Daemon walked back over to the prince who was barely concious. "It seems your men lack loyalty, and courage. But it isn't their fault. They lack leadership. I think it's time to but the fear of Hae-wer
into them."
The guards stood motionless, fear keeping them from advancing or retreating. Daemon broke into a manical laughter. He picked the prince up and proceded to literally rip him limb from limb. Daemon threw pieces of the former prince to the various corners of the room. He set the Prince's head at the floor before the throne. When he sat down in the throne, he wasn't the palest person in the room.
Slowly, one by one at first the in entire sections the soliders knelt before Daemon. The only man left standing was Degran. "Captain," Daemon began, "I admire your loyalty to your prince. That is why I will not keep my orignal promise. Turn and walk from this room. Tell all you meet of what has happened here today. Remember well what you have seen, and let me never hear your name again.
The Captain walked from the room and headed straight out of Valensa. "Back to your posts. Act as if nothing has happened today or your life is forfiet. Someone go get my scribe." Daemon smiled thinking that his business was not yet through. "And let's get this place cleaned up ok. I'm expecting company."

The summons was sent by the Captain and the Guards of the Rose answered it immediately. Adorned in their Field Plate, with their swords at their sides, fully 25 loyal soldiers were gathered in Kyle Garyth's Courtyard, mounted on their Medium Warhorses barded in field plate which had been enchanted long ago not to encumber the horses.
In front of them walked their reason for being in Rhydin, Their liege and lord, Sir Kyle Garyth, Knight of the Rose and Captain of the Guardians of Truth... Their captain, Kierin Gallinir was talking with Sir Kyle, getting their orders. Kyle also handed him a medallion. "This will allow you to contact me should you need to. It will only work once, so use it sparingly."
Kierin saluted and ordered the men to return to the barracks and change to their chain mail armor. This seemed odd to most of the men, as they expected to be deployed to protect Sir Kyle. This would be a long mission and it appeared to many of them that their lord would not be going with them. They returned to change and were ready to leave within an hour.
They rode north, on the trail of a man they did not even know. Many of them had, of course, heard of the large albino. They had even seen him around the arenas. But none thought they would be going to help the man.
When they arrived on the border of Valensa, the men took a much needed break. They camped outside of a town and the officers went into the tavern, hoping for some news. As luck would have it, there was a man inside who wore the uniform af a Royal Guardsman who seemed to have had a run-in with the albino.
The man's name was Dregan. He told a tale of slaughter which made even the hardest of the men cringe in fear. He advised Kierin to stay clear of the mad one and to go to friendlier places. Kierin thanked him and paid for his night's stay and bar tab and then went back to the camp.

Kierin, deciding that Speed iwas of the essence now, gathers the Guards and orders that they ride on that night. Sensing the urgency in their commander's voice, the Guards all mount and ride without a word. They had to reach the capital that night.
Riding into the city, Kierin talks to the Town Guard and finds out that the Prince is expecting the Hunters any time now... "Good," he thought, "we're not too late." To the Guard he says, "Take us to see this Prince of yours. We wish to declare ourselves and our purpose as is our custom."
"The Prince is nnot expecting a large group of men. He will not be pleased." The man said, obviously frightened.
"Then escort me into see him. My men will remain in the Royal courtyard, if you have such a thing in this city." Kierin said, looking around at the small capital city. The man, obviously shaken and upset, quietly agrees and they set off for the Palace. The Guards remained in the courtyard, dismounted and formed into a defensive circle, while Kierin was ushered into the Palace. As he walks, Kierin touches the Symbol of Paladine around his neck
and the dust from the road falls from his armour. Smiling to himself, Kierin walks proudly into the Throne room, ready for anything but what he sees...
Walking into the Throne room, Kierin sees a large, Albino warrior sitting upon the throne. The man had an eyepatch over his left eye and was wearing gloves on both of his hands. The man seemed to rest easy upon the trone which he so recently wrested form the ArchDuke.
Smiling slightly, Kierin approached and knelt before the throne, head hled high. "I mean no disrespect, m'Lord Daemon. I have been sent by Sir Kyle Garyth, Knight of the Rose and Captain in the Guardians of Truth, to assist you in any way possible. My men and I stand ready to die in your service. By your leave, m'Lord, I will have my men change to their Plate armour and station them around the room." He looks at Daemon Satyriasis expectantly.

Resting comfortable on the throne, Daemon watches the Knight approach. Absently he listens to the mans words as if he had no comprehension of the language being spoken. From behind the knight, a small man in a long robe stuck his head in the door. "Mu . . . My lord, the local nobles are assembled and await at your liesure."
"Good, excelent, do bring them in." Daemon said as if Kierin wasn't even present. Almost as an afterthought he turned on the Captain and removed the patch that had been covering his left eye. "Have your men assemble on the dias, around the throne. I want no markings of their order visible. There is no need to change. And do hurry."
As Kierin turned to leave, the small man was reentering the chamber followed by a dozen or so lords who seemed a mix of emotions. Kerin was hard pressed to contain his shock at seeing the medalion the scribe wore. It was the head of the former ArchDuke, a chain through one ear and out the other. Kierin held his composure, then hurried to gather his men.
When they returned, it appeared as if the albino was holding court. The Scribe was reading from a large tome. They assembled silently on the throne and by thier sudden appearance and well disciplined moves, a few of the local lords were visibly shaken. Daemon looked at Kierin then to an empty spot on the left side of the throne which he once again occupied.
The captain understood and moved to Daemon's side having already pledged his life to the man based on nothing more than his Lords orders. He listened to what the scribe was saying to try and figure out where this was going.
". . .On the matter of weddings, pesants, serfs and indentured servants wishing to be wed must obtain the permission oh his local lord or master. The lord shall then send missive to the castle informing the Reigning Lord of Valensa rights of first night. The reigning lord shall then descide wether to accept first night or to pass it on to the commoner in question's local master."
"Scribe, please explain this "First Night's Right to me."
The scribe turned a page and read another passage. "The Reigning Lord of Valensa retains the right to bed the woman of any man living in the protective and marked borders of Valensa on the night that said man is married to said woman. At his discretion, the Reigning Lord may pass this right onto the Loyal noble in direct control of the area in which the man lives."
"Very well Scribe, thank you." Daemon rose from the throne and paced the dias infront of his gathered nobles and assembled Guards. Kierin instinctively walked slightly behind the albino. "You nobles have been gathered here for one reason and one reason only. I would like to know how many of you are familiar with the law that was just read. Do not lie to me in this, as I am not in a good mood. Step forward if you have ever been granted first
night's right by the former ArchDuke of Valensa."

" I am expected to believe that not a single one of you men has ever been granted this right. Well, I don't know wether to be appaled by the ArchDuke's lechery, or by you nobles ability to stand before me and lie." He turned to look at the captain. "Captain, these men are to be my guests for the next few days. Have a contingent of your men go with them to the guest rooms in the tower. One man outside of each room and two
extra guards per hallway. I shall summon them again after my wife has arrived."
The nobles were appaled. One even dare to speak his objections. "You cannot" came the cry. Daemon turned on the men gathered. He walked the five steps from the top of the dias to the lords. "I cannot?" he asked. "Scribe, who is this man who not only questions his Lord, but cannot address me properly?" Staring into the man's eyes, Daemon whispered a single word. "Kneel" the lord did as he was told as the scribe came over. The noble was forced to
chose between staring at his former duke's head or the floor. He chose the latter.
"My Lord, this is Sir Joseph the Impslayer. He owns the fields just east of the city proper. His land totals over 5 square acres and there are more than 17 families of pesants, serf, and indentured servants living in this area. He has in his direct service a staff of 20 slaves, and 5 paid servants. He recieved his land . . ."
"Enough" Daemon commanded. "Captain, have the other lords escorted to their luxury suites." When the other's left Daemon turned on the remaining noble. "Sir Joseph the Impslayer, I am Daemon Satyriasis. I am a simple man, recently moved into a position of great authority. But you on the other hand are man of some authority who has recently moved into a simpler life."
The noble looked up in shock. Daemon continued on stopping the mans protest before it even started. "You may call me Master. From this day on, you will be my court jester. Scribe, take Jester to the see the tailor. I want him suited and back here YESTERDAY! MOVE." The Scribe and formal noble practically ran from the room
"Captain, when my guests arrive I want you to show them in. I want two men outside the door till you enter, then they are to follow you in and guard the door. At no time are your men to interfere in what transpires unless Khrysta's life is in peril."
"What of the rear entrance Lord Daemon, the one behind the curtain." Kierin asked.
"Always the tactician I see. I like that. That's the door the archduke entered from. That leads to my antechamber. Post whatever men you have left in there. Have them fully armed and if someone other than me should enter they are to ever so gently detain that person till I arrive.

Kierin entered the great hall later that afternoon. The throne was turned to face the opposite wall. He had in tow one of the bounty hunters and Khrysta. He left them ate the base of the dias and climb up to speak with Daemon, whose leg rested over the right arm of the throne. Daemon listened to the captain, then leaped from the throne.
Dyvim, to his benefit kept his wits about him. He knew at once this wasn't the ArchDuke of Valensa. His swords came out as the albino landed, Katana and Wakizashi going high and low respectively. Daemon avoids the low blade parrying it with his right arm, The Katana scores a minor hit on his shoulder. He responds with two quick jabs, but the bounty hunted deftly avoids the blows. "It would seem the stories I've heard of your skill are just that,
stories." Dyvim taunts, his Katana missing this time but the smaller blade reaching its mark.
"We shall see," Daemon replies, smiling as a small line of blood forms on his leg. The Scimitar and gladius come out in a flurish and Daemon draws blood from the bounty hunter. The two circle and continue their deadly dance. Dyvim speaks again this time trying to reason with the albino. "We don't have to do this, you could pay me for returning your wife, and let me go."
Daemon rips the sleeve from his tunic, exposing his mechanical arm. "I don't think so." He staggers the bounty hunter with a blow from the Scimitar. "This is the most fun I've had in hours." Daemon laughs and Dyvim swings at him once more, this time loosening something from the hilt of his Katana.
"I'm afraid I can't say the same." Dyvim remarks. "If you'll excuse me, I must be going." He drops a flash pellet while swing the Wakizashi. Then he makes for the back curtain while Daemon is temporarily blinded. The guards from the door make chase, while Kierin moves to Daemon's side. Daemon then moves to his wife, sheathing his blades, and untieing her bindings. He holds her close without saying a word before leading her back to the dias.
Finally he breaks the silence. "Welcome home love." He wipes a tear from her cheek, and sits her down on his lap. "Kierin, will you please have the servants prepare a bath for their queen, and see that our newest guest is kept entertained while I tend to my wife."

Stumbling once again behind the horse, Khrys sees the familiar sight of the "Castle" of the ArchDuke of Valensa... the men on the walkways and in the courtyard are a familiar sight from that evening only a few years ago.
But something is different this time.. there is a different air about the place...
"You there... what have you got?"
Smiling a grim smile, Dyvim replies to the perimiter guard, "I got me sumtin fer tha ArchDuke....... c'mon, girl".
He dismounts and walks with the guard, pulling her along behind him as the two men talk briefly. Khrys looks closely at the guard leading the way to his Captain. She knows that she has seen this man before. If only she could remember where.....
As they approach a man with his back towards them, their escort calls out, "Sir, a bounty hunter. One Dyvim Tyr with the wanted assassin." The guard leaves them with his Captain, who turns to lead them into the "Castle" proper. She starts visibly as she recognizes Kierin, the Captain of Sir Kyle's Personal Guard. He looks at her, with a gleam in his eye and a slight shake of his head, as he scowls at the bounty hunter, then leads the way
inside.
Once inside, Kierin leaves them at the base of the dias to speak with someone on the throne... someone that Khrys assumes to be Sir Kyle because of the presence of his guards. Kierin moves to the side, and her heart jumps in her breast as she sees her love and husband moving away from the throne, not Sir Kyle. As they make eye contact, Daemon starts to action, jumping from the dias at the bounty hunter. Aware only that something is verra wrong,
Dyvim pushes her to the side and moves to meet the albino. Struggling with her bindings, unable to get to one of the guards to untie them for her, Khrys moves to the side of the room away from duel. Watching in horror as Daemon takes a deep hit, she knows he will need her to heal him if he survives. With tears in her eyes and coursing freely down her cheeks, she continues to struggle with the bindings.
After a blinding flash of light the room is suddenly still and he's holding her close. He unties her and brushes the tears from her cheeks, leading her to the dias. Pulling her down to his lap, he finally breaks the silence as she cries in his embrace... "Welcome home, Love"

Kvin rolls over on the hard ground of their camp, the sunlight bright in his aching eyes. His head felt like a rock and his mouth tasted of gravel. He sat up, blinking as he realized the Dyvim and the assassin were gone. "Dang it Dyvim! " he shouted to the sky, " you'll be killed if you've taken her in without me!"
Kvin tries to saddle his nag quickly, the horse shies at his angry moves. " come on, now Dix" Kvin muttered, " we must catch that arse Dyvim and hope his foolish choice doesn't kill him!" Kvin kicks the horse hard and thunders off.
Later, much later, Kvin comes into sight of the castle of the ArchDuke. The hackles rise on his neck, his senses telling him that something is wrong. He turns Dix to the rightside path around the castle through the ArchDuke's orchards. He reaches the familiar spot and pats Dix on the flank after he dismounts. "Off with you til I whistle".
Kvin easily finds the hidden passageway from his childhood life in the castle, his secret alone. His father had thrust him and his nurse into the hidden passage when his uncle had come to exterminate his brother. They had hidden there, safely until the nurse found the outside exit. Kvin had lived as her son since, returning to the passageways to spy on his uncle and plot his revenge. Humming softly to himself, he walked in the semi-darkness of the
passageways. The Goddess had not lied when she told him to return Khrystal Death to the castle. ' Truely Revenge is sweet!"

passageways. The Goddess had not lied when she told him to return Khrystal Death to the castle. ' Truely Revenge is sweet!"

When he reached the dungeon level in the dark passageway, he paused to lift a dark cloth from over a tiny hole. Kvin put his eye to it and looked out into the torchlit corridor. The dank passage was empty, the guard station being around the far corner and down a long hall. Dropping the dark cloth, Kvin reaches up with his left hand and pulls down the cell master key. He grinned at the thought of his childhood forsight when he had stolen the snoring
guards keys and hidden them here. He knelt down and very quietly pulled the bolts and open the hidden door. He crawled through and pulled it almost shut. He walked silently to the first cell and looked in, it's interior empty. Slowly he made his way down the passage checking in the cells. All were empty.
Kvin poked his head around the corner, the long hallway still lay empty. Very quietly he made for the nearest cell and glanced in. Much to his relief, he spied Dyvim snoring in a tattered blanket. Kvin eased his master key in the lock and turn it slowly. The locked clanged as it turned, Kvin's heart jumping at the sound. He looked up the corridor and waited. No one came, so he slowly opened the door and rushed to Dyvim. "Wake up, you lunk!" he
whispered, "I've come to save you. " Dyvim jumped up, instantly awake. "I knew you would, Kvin! Well Met!". The men clasped arms briefly, then hurried to the door. Kvin looked out.
The hall was empty but the torches flickered form a gust o air . Kvin knew that would be the guards making their rounds. "Hurry....follow me!" They ran quickly and noiselessly around the corner Kvin kneeling to open the door and crawl through, Dyvim on his heels. Kvin slammed the bolts home on the small door. Then he grabbed Dyvim's arm and nearly dragged him through the dark passageway. "We haven't much time...." he said more to himself than to his
friend. They reached the outside entrance and scuttled from the darkness. They jumped up and ran to the trees, Kvin stopping briefly to whistle. Dix appeared in the trees and trotted to him. Kvin vaulted on his horse, and gave his hand to Dyvim to pull him up. Then, kicking Dix gently, they rode off...... away from the cursed castle of Kvin's ancestors, to their future lives in Rhy-Din.
