Concern
Lately a lot of you have spoken out about the fall of morals and lack of honor in our challenge rings. l was shocked to see just how much. Most of you know, l rarely pin anything to these boards. Now, not to say anything, would be like condoning such behaviour as l have witnessed last eve.
Though it is not a part of the written rules of universal challange, it cannot be right for a dueler to attack another with his/her blade, *outside* the ring, after he has defeated said dueler in the ring. And such being allowed without rebuke from any there to witness.
ln no way can l find such behaviour acceptable. Nothing excuses this.

From what I heard through the grapevine of last nights challenge and after-challenge affair was that the Baron....er, Baroness simple drew her sword and pointed it at close distance to the Gnome. I don't know about anyone else but in a world where unnamed killers roam free and butcher defensless citizens and people with more power than intelligence run rampant, this display of "Rage held in check" should be commended rather instead of frowned
apon.
What I've learned and most people fail ta' forget is that a simple bodily wound can be healed over time but a wound to a persons soul...or whatever ya' people call it can last a lifetime. I heard Gnim came into the challenge without a care in the world fer winnin' or losin' while the Baron...er, Baroness was intensely interested in keepin' somethin' she dearly loved. Maybe Gnim's lack of carin' struck pretty deep? I don't know.
From experience I know that Gnim rarely cares about any position of power he's held, it's all a game ta' him and that's where the line is drawn with people. Some take this as a game, some take it as a battle....I'm among the latter. I take the time I can duel seriously to a point, I hate losin' and do my best ta' always win. I consider people like this the backbone of the sport. "Way back when" people dueled for "Enjoyment" not fun...but they
always tried their damndest ta' beat their apponent and didn't take challenges and that stuff lightly. I find that these "For fun only" challenges are nothin' but a waste of time. It's yer right, but why bother if ya' really don't care?
So Topaz, in my usual attempt to knock some sense inta' the knuckle heads in this sport who you are now among it seems, I got on;y these little tidbits left fer ya' ta' chew on.
1. Instead of people challengin' and then complainin' that this person or that person takes it "too seriously", challenge someone who won't get all uptight. If ya' know yer gonna cause trouble, why not avoid it...unless that's all yer out ta' do.
2. People seem ta' give a lot of respect to a person just because they've been former this or former that, I say bull! Gnim only raised his own weapon twice in his reing as overlord and lost one of em. Other people did all his dirty work while he sat around and whined about how bad he was as a dueler and how noone liked him. Maybe those of us that've been around don't have the failin' memories ya' think we do. Gnim was a waste as an overlord and a
discredit to the sport and I'm sorry I put the effort inta' keepin' his skinny arse there in the first place. God knows he'd probably stab me in the back if he got the chance too.
3.When all else fails in life there's a few things a person should be able ta' fall back on when times are tough. Those bein' friends and loyalties. What the hell good is it ta' put yer neck on the line fer someone when all they do is turn around and stick it to ya' a few years down the line? What does this teach the newer crop of duelers? With all you new people complaining about "Older duelers not teaching us right" ya' don't open yer damn eyes and
see the lessons in front of ya'. Adeena teaches loyalty, the most precious of all assets, in life and in the rings.
4.Another lesson to be learned that you all are missing is honesty. Gnim claims to do this for fun without a care in the world but we all know he has other motives, that's dishonest. Adeena may have thrown what "frienship" she and Gnim had to the wayside over this challenge but she was pretty clear about why she did it. She doesn't care if you like it or not because some people value honesty above "Pleasing the masses." Lies catch up with ya', it's
best ta' tell the truth about why ya' do things, that way people can never have doubt ta' trust yer motives, no matter if yer Joe bad guy or Mr. Clean.
5. Lastly, ya' should feel pretty luck that all Adeena did was wave her sword in front of his face and speak her mind about how she felt. Personally I would have tried ta' kill Gnimish over this, if the truth be known. I find people that attack friends a cancer in the sport that need ta' be ripped out before it spreads. Honesty....I would have tried to kill him. (::Shurgs as he crayolas::) I've tried it over lesser things and succeeded once and I'll
try it again if given the opportunity. Why? Because I don't take this as a game, I take it as war and in war there's gonna be a few broken bodies, I just make sure one of em ain't mine.
Oh yea Topaz...ta' dispell any guesses ya' might have about how far some us may go let me add this: If you had tried ta' stop me I would have tried ta' kill you too. People take things like this lightly but they shouldn't. Adeena may not be callous enough ta' go the extra yard but I sure as hell would and with a big old lopsided grin on my face. So next time ya' wanna laugh and point fingers at things that aren't as bad as ya' wanna make em seem,
read my letter and get yerself back inta' perspective.
I won't hesitate ta' make you or anyone else just another statistic.

I was there, and I thought you were, too. How anyone could have failed to notice the pure and uncontained blissful ignorance of Gnimish to Adeena's emotional state is beyond me. I commend her for not taking off the Gnome's head. I don't know if I would have been so restrained. Pointing a blade at someone does not constitute an attack. There would be a helluva lot of dead bodies in RhyDin if that was the case. As to a lack of honor, that
is an astonishing thing to say about the Baroness. I would do a wee bit of asking around, not to mention prying into the private history between Adeena and Gnim, before you make that accusation. No offense, I'm just trying to calm you down before you say something really silly.

I guess my perception was never that Gnim was in real danger and I

It is understandable thou wouldst seek to stand steadfast and to champion thy fiancee, yet in this I must gently protest. As one who was present both during and following the challenge match t'wixt the Baroness Adeena Maeax and your fiancee, Gnimish Gnimoi, I protest such falsehoods. The Baroness did indeed draw Justicant, however, at at no time did she attack Gnimish, merely bringing the blade into close proximity of the gnome. Think
thou one so skilled in its wielding could not have struck a disabling, even mortal wound had that been her intent? Verily, she did withhold her anger and the blade most commendably under more trying circumstance. Her sorrow, her pain at the cavalier manner with which M'lord Gnimoi did treat the entire challenge, I did witness. Rarely is the Baroness wont to tears, and rarely does she place missives upon this ancient cork. I must, in good
conscience, speak out on behalf of the Baroness in this matter.
M'lord Gnimish harks back to challenges t'wixt himself and Alkron Goldensword and Feadur Feamegil. Tis convenient that neither of the former Barons and, in Feadur's instance, a former Overlord, is currently in the realms to comment upon those challenges, yet Gnimish decries those who would chide him for his failure to recall the loyalty of the Baroness and M'lord Dalamar ArD'aumon during M'lord Gnimoi's reign.
M'lord Gnimish Gnimoi did place upon this cork board his declaration of support for M'lord ArD'aumon, then sought after the Fifth Ring, a ring held by a loyal Baroness. Prithee, how is that supporting of the Overlord? M'Lord Gnimoi has since stated to some in the dueling house he no longer supports M'Lord Dalamar, and various reasons for both his declaration of support for Dalamar and for his withdrawal of that support, yet, in a perusal of
this ancient cork board, I find no such forthrightness by his hand. Dost that not, mayhap, speak of a hidden agenda, a desire to lure the unsuspecting into his camp?
Were thou nae witness to the pain and sorrow of the Baroness following the match? Think thou the Baroness hast no heart to be torn asunder by M'Lord Gnimoi's betrayal of the loyalty and friendship she didst grant him? Know thee not that the pain of betrayal is heart rending, soul cutting, a pain like unto none that a mere blade can render, yet M'Lord Gnimish didst laugh and cavort after the match as the Baroness did weep, her bare feet near
blue with the cold. The Baroness, d'Argent and M'lord ArD'aumon didst offer gentle words to ease her sorrow, the Overlord himself retrieving Adeena's sandals, as M'Lord Gnimoi didst make heartless comments. M'Lord Gnimoi's reign was fraught with controversy over the so-called Test of Worthiness as was that of the grand Siera of
Redwin, that of M'lord Leto of Covington' as is M'lord Dalamar ArD'aumon's. Yet the renegade Baron, Huma Dragonbane would have it that he feels the test should not be given the former Overgnome. One must ponder had Gnimish apprised his champion that he himself had tested those that sought his mantle. Are we to then presume, any former Baron or Overlord who makes challenge should, by dint of past rank, not face the test? Balderdash, I say.
There are thus far but two Overlords since the reign of Amaltea thu-Darelir that I have ne'er granted the courtesy of a bow; the twentieth and the twenty-first, Gnimish Gnimoi and Martigan Crow; both well accomplished with the blade in the rings, yet skill with a blade alone, though it may earn respect for the blade, may yet not earn the same for its wielder e'en should he or she manage to hold the Mantle of Overlord. The burden of that Mantle
ne'er rests lightly upon the shoulders of those that bear it; nor should a challenge to those who wear a Baron's ring be held as lightly as M'Lord Gnimish's didst hold his challenge to the Baroness.
My heart goes out to the Baroness, Adeena, for the pain of betrayal she endures. If rebuke is warranted, the community mayhap should cast rebuke upon M'Lord Gnimish Gnimoi for his less than honest and most cavalier behavior toward the Baroness and chide thee, M'Lady Eludes, in that thou hast implied by the missive that the Baroness lacked both morals and honor. The Baroness Adeena deserves no such aspersions carelessly cast upon her.

If rebuke is warranted, the community mayhap should cast rebuke upon M'Lord Gnimish Gnimoi for his less than honest and most cavalier behavior toward the Baroness and chide thee, M'Lady Eludes, in that thou hast implied by the missive that the Baroness lacked both morals and honor. The Baroness Adeena deserves no such aspersions carelessly cast upon her.

I expected this. Once again some of you, in your seemingly unending obsession to make me out to be the evil Anti-Paladin of DoS, have blown something way out of proportion. Honestly, I have tried all that I could to make myself clear in this. I made a public apology to the Baroness....twice. I admitted that my actions were thoughtless, though well intended. I admitted that I was wrong in the matter, for the most part. And every time my
words have either been taken out of context or twisted into something they were not intended to be.
And now you also take Topaz' words far out of context. Let's face it, you know she is right for the most part, that drawing your sword on someone outside of the ring is just downright rude, if not more. But if you truly want to blind yourselves from the truth simple because maybe the truth favors me for once, that's fine. Like I said, I'm used to it.

T'would be but a simple matter if all persons could so easily read the meanings and intentions of all who speak to them. Whilst I am but a simple Bard, and a man of peace, even I do know that to offer challenge to one who had previously sworn loyalty to thee shows ill-thought and poor judgement.
Having not witnessed the events as they occured, I canst not speak on the mental state of the Baroness, nor on whether the alledged words of the Warlord were indeed spiteful. However... if, given the descriptions of the events posited here, the Baroness did indeed restrain herself from striking the WarLord, then truely she is to be commended.
Self control is an easy thing to require of others, yet a harder thing to require of one's self. In the end, there is no greater judge of one's honor than one's own self... more's to the pity if people cannot see this and act accordingly.
