Greetings to all the fine Sword Duelers,
My name is Jacob Ryleigh, remember it, for I will help create a new idealism & history in this stufy old place. Yes, I have read the great history formed by the legends that created it, very knowledgeable & respectable, I may say. Yet, many of these Old School aliances that have formed makes me sick to my tummy! Tis new duelers of this '98 year will help change this place to great amusement & get rid of all this jiberish.
We will add charisma, excitement & talent; Things that some of the old folks forgot they had. We will lay a new history for others to admire & to cherish. We will be heard in the near future when we gain the rings & thrones; & get rid of this 'we think were the all knowing one' attitudes, & we will ... hmmm, don't know what else to say...
I personally will establish my roots of my great parents talents. I may have been born under honorable parents who held spots under nobility in my native homeland, which is nice to know. But, They rose me up as a common folk, that I will always cherish them for that opportunity. I realized that all this higharchy stuff with their noblelistic names & titles are just to arrogant. I will make the common folks have someone to admire & to believe they
are just as worthy to reach greatness. I, & hopefully my fellow peers will change this place into a place for folks to respect the great duelers, old and new, but to stay themselves instead of being caught in the web of ediquet mumble jumbo.
To all the others that are paving their history, Speak up, Show these oldies that the class of '98 truly exist for respect, Show them your style & Stay true to yourself, learn from all & then make you move! Post it up!!! You are duelers too!!! Til then... all the fine duelers from old to new, Live your Dreams!

I find it passing odd that one who honors his parents - those who preceded him in life - seeks to cast aside those who preceded him in this arena.
Young Jacob, perhaps your impetuous brashness will prevent you from heeding the words of one of the old guard, but I will endeavour. There is much you may learn from your predecessors, not only in the art of the blade, but in earning respect as well. Avail yourself of that opportunity, and well you might earn the respect of all in due time; choose otherwise, and well you might earn the disdain of all more rapidly.
As the cycles turn, the new indeed reach the heights of the old - as long as they earn it.

Now you all know me and know that I do not post unless I absolutely have to...well, this is one of them times:)
Jacob, if you are looking ta be the Emperor of Commoners...your too late, there is someone else that fills them shoes, and well, I would not say that he is not one that shows and motivates the commoners to higher, better ranks and positions within the DoS, inface, there are many that he has helped along the way that are not Barons and Warlords.
Within the DoS, all man, woman, and child are equal, for if they were not, they would not be within the walls of the basements. The moment they step through the door, that is the moment that heirarcy leaves the room. We have Queens, Kings, Knights, Pesants, Commoners, Clerics, people from all areas of t heirarcy come and duel within the basement walls, and those titles fall to the groud dead as soon as they step through the doors, and come alive
again when the holder of those titles leaves for the night.
My friend, it seems you know not as much as you thought with the history of DoS. Well, here is a little trivia question for you.
Only Jacob answer these questions please...I know everyone else can prolly answer them:)
Who are the two longest running commoners in DoS?
Who are the Emperor and Empress of Commoners?
Who holds the largest LoW's but has and holds more respect for those LoW's than many with many WoL's?
Jacob, answer those for me, for you will not find them in the history books...they are learned within the walls of the DoS, as is respect for each dueler, and not the mob of duelers. Those that I hate the most, I still hold in high respect, for they, in one way or another, have aided me to my destination, even if they beat me or not. Respect is something that we hold on high, even though we may trash ones view of respect.

A simple question for everyone and anyone......why are you so damed scared of the future? I for one have been duelin here about six months or so. When I first came in, I acted quite formal and proper, as not to offend anyone. Then I realized that nobody in the DoS cares, except on these message boards. There will always be "old schoolers" and "new schoolers" and those who feel "brushed aside by the dominate cliques." Even if, with a sudden sweep of a hand, all the duelists who had been here for greater than two years were to suddenly vanish, there would still be those who were new, and those who were seasoned. There would still be those who were bound together by strong ties of friendship, and those who were equally as bound by strong
hatred. And, before even a single year passed, there would be an "old school" and a "new school."
What makes one an "old school" duelist? This question has -never- been answered to me to any level of satisfaction. One relatively new duelist says that it is impossible for a newer duelist to break into the existing "cliques." Yet, I have been dueling for barely a year, and I am fast friends with many of those "old school" duelists. In point of fact, within my first week of dueling, I had become friends with two duelists who had been
here since nearly the begining of the sport, and friends with a few other duelists who had been here but half a year longer than I.
During my career... I have argued with, cajoled, shared laughter, shared pain, fought, been insulted by, been assaulted by, even shared my love and my life with so many of the people of this community that I could not even mention them all within the space of a day.
As I have stated time and again, I personally will not turn away a polite and well-meaning person... unless there is some over-riding situation that absorbs my attention at the time. I have even gone so far as to assist my best friend in his dueling school, teaching the new as well as the more experienced. -None- are turned away, as long as they have good attitudes about dueling, their fellow classmates, and themselves.
Not everyone is as open to new things and people as I though, and I can accept that. Why should -anyone- insist that they should be noticed by anyone else? I did not ask to be noticed by the Overlord, nor by anyone else for that matter. I mearly carried myself with dignity and showed respect to any who crossed blades with me. All I have ever asked is that those who duel me show a level of dignity and respect in return. Even when I was new,
I showed respect, and was almost always shown respect in return.
As Tass mentioned, and I'm sure others will mention in time as well, respect rarely comes from skill... It comes from dignity, honor, and attitude. I do not expect everyone to show respect to me, nor to show the same kind of respect to others that I do. If I did expect such a thing, I would truely be a fool. And yet, would such respect be so hard to show? Even in the smallest amounts?
But I see I have side-tracked myself again.
In the end... to me, there is no "new school" or "old school." There are those who understand, and at least give a passing nod to, the grand traditions and fellowship of the Arena... and those who will never try, seeing the entire as nothing more than a place to say "I'm better than you."
These are my opinions... take them to heart or not. I do not expect any to heed what I say because of who I am, but because of the wisdom I believe lies beneath the words themselves.

Yes, it is quite refreshin that I have hit a nerve from many of the old school, & some of the new schoolers. But let me give my sincere apoligize to those that took my writing as an insult. I am not trying to defame the legends of the arena, I honor this vast wealth of great duelers that exist here, I truly do.
