Finally recovers herself enough to scrawl on the bottom of one of the many pieces of paper::

Now I always thought meself as ta new school. In fact, there be a time nae long ago when I be refered to as such - along wi' ta Huma an' ta Aja an' ta Ally an ta Gnort and ta Khrys an ta Morte an ta Prin an ta Buffy an ta.... ::the list grows to long to keep up:: An we were nae called ta New School in ta most complimentary way.

An it comes ta me mind tha' just ta same be said about us. Now I remember shock at ta Pink Boxers, ta horror o' ta Huma darin' ta challange his first, an' ta long drawn out missives posted to this board about respect. Most o' ta clatter came up from what now must be ta Ancient School o' ta DoS.
Huma, Aja - I think ya both be good uns. Good ta help ta newer ones learn thier way about ta Arena. It be an excitin' and thrillin' place; and mayhaps we can be generous so when in their enthusiasm they mayhaps step on us Old Schoolers ::bursts into laughter again:: toes.

Personally, I don't see where this conversation is getting anyone. In a sense, I agree with my good friend Dal. However, as time goes on, I know I will develop into the "old school" class, because I have been here for about fourteen months, or so. I was not here when the baron rings were made, I was not here when a fancy was worth an adv, regardless of it's success. I was here, however, when Elijah was around. In years to come, people
will come to hardly know the person. When that day comes, I can class myself as an old schooler, safely. In my opinion, you need to be around for a decent amount of time, in order to be classed as an old schooler.
This little note may be off topic, but I feel it must be pointed out, since it was posted. Huma and Agrenish have this little feud going, and I am going to resolve it here and now. Agrenish doesn't respect people; simple enough. There are duelers here and there that do not respect one other, and I shall not go into details. He calls a baron a coward? Then that is his trial towards the community himself, for one who throws such insults
based on little evidence is open to public attack.
I won't doubt I'll be attacked by this, but I'm going to say it, because both Huma and Agrenish were in the wrong for posting personal feuds here, where it is supposed to be about respect. Instead, they said who was wrong.
Huma, I personally believe you use your ring in vain. It simply sounds to me like you are flaunting your title. You said if he does not like what you're doing, that he can get ten peer wins and challenge you. What that has to do with respect, I don't know. It just sounds like you used that to brag. Many other times I have seen cases like this, but I shall not go into it.
Why did I post what I feel about Agrenish and Huma? To simply show what sort of reactions their public postings have brought them. This is not meant to cause a new argument, or to slander. I did not pull anything from a private conversation. This is all written in the words above, from words written before.
Though it may seem I am posting off topic here, there is an actual point here. Respect comes from your actions, and you can see what sort of respect you get when your sole purpose is to humiliate others.

If you don't want people to look on you as a role-model, then you should remove yourself from the public eye.

Your absolutely correct. But there are a number of role models, and all of them have been different. Role models do not make themselves...as Barons do...by winning a title..they just are. Some may look upon you as a role model, simply because of who you are.
I was me before my ring, and I continue to be myself afterwards...those that might look to me as a role model...do so for their own reasons.
When I hear you say that people in title must conduct themselves in a certain manner...due to their titles, I find it disturbs me somewhat. Because that assumes that just because of a title that means someone should be honorable and generally looked upon and a *good ole boy/girl* by the community.
I then look at the examples left to us by the Barons and Overlords before us. Could you say...possibly...that Feadur Feamgil gave a righteous damn about what people thought of him? No...I do not think you could. What of William? He has held title often..and still conducts himself in his haphazard, force of nature attitude. Did people ask them to be someone else? No...they didn't.
Huma is....who Huma is...and yes..he is a role model...several of the new duelers look up to him....not so much for his title, though that is part of it, as it is in most cases, they look up to him because he is who he is. Like some do with me...and some with you.
So title comes with responsibility...I do agree with you there. But that responsibily does not contain a need to change....or conduct yourself in a politically correct manner. It conveys a responsibility to the Duels and if one decides to be honorable and all giving when one holds that title...they can...and if one decides to be venomous and evil while holding it..they can also. That is the nature of humanity. As is the nature to hold
and level opinions at someone.
But opinions are....well you know what opinions are like. And needless to say...Huma probably won't change just because people don't like him. Neither will I, Or Dal, or anyone really. Thats the way of things. So to say we must conduct ourselves as the community as a whole wishes us to conduct ourselves is a very rigid stricture indeed. In fact...the last time anyone said *You must do as I do, and think as I think, and look like me or
you are wrong* on any grand scale......there were armys marching across a vast land shouting *Sieg Heil!* and burning the people that they thought were wrong. I do not believe that ANYONE in this forum is that rigid personally.

She stands there a long moment, in the silence of the basement, her gaze resting on the banner of Redwin, then shifting to the charred portion of the wall where once a tattered old sign hung. Minutes pass as her hand strays to touch the stones, her gaze moves to the empty place where once the Abbemeer banner was displayed. Her calm restored, a tear falls unbidden to the stones. She darts a glance quickly around the empty cavern that is the
basement, her hand quickly dashing the tears aside as she recalls Feadur's words that long ago eve. No one. Alright, Adonai's right in one respect, but let me rephrase.
Adonai, you tell me to keep my nose in my own business. Didn't you just get involved in my personal beliefs, because I said what I feel? I'm sorry, but when someone says something publically, they are subject to opinion. I stated my opinion, thinking Huma is using his title to demand respect. Therefore, if I am supposed to keep my mouth shut, because I have an opinion, then you have called yourself a hypocrite.
Believe it or not, Adonai, I am disappointed with a lot of actions in the arena. I was brought up to put your own morals first. Personally, expecting respect because of rank is a very dishonorable thing to do. When someone challenges for whatever reason, you are sure to get spoken against. My challenge towards you, both of us had people root for us. I'm not saying why they would root for us, because I do not know. However, DoS has grown
into sore politics, I believe.
Please excuse this minor rambling, but what are the two major causes of arguments? Challenges and definitions of "old school/new school" have always been the source. Why? Simply because that's what DoS consists of, along with other things. I just want to know when everyone agreed on one thing?

Only person I remember taunting with my Ring is Agrenish...and as most who know me are aware, I am probably one of the most modest people in RyDin. By pure luck I still hold this ring...my day will come. My, actions are no more vain than your actions are of jealousy for not having a ring..and with that, have a good day.

I don't believe this whole discussion started to personally attack anyone. And it's startin to go that way.
What the basic idea is..."New Duelers don't follow proper ettiquette." Possibly because they don't know any better, or because they don't care. Either way, it's a problem noticed by many.
Now that we have a good idea of the problem, what can we do to solve it?

I don't believe this whole discussion started to personally attack anyone. And it's startin to go that way.

If you really, really find it necassary to state who's wrong and who's right, don't use the boards. It is not too difficult a matter to pull Adonai, or Huma, or Agrenesh, or whomever, off to the side, and tell them what you think. Most likely, they won't care, and even if they do, like everyone has been saying, they aren't gonna change their ways because of your, or anyone elses opinion. People are who they are, and if you got beef, pull em aside
and let them know. Flaunting politically correct ramblings on the message boards does naught but serve as propaganda to make you look.....i don't know, smart.....not by any means that you are not, but as i see it, and only as I see it, and i don't ask or expect you to change because of my words......you are a know it all and a busybody, always hypin stuff up and tryin to get reactions out of people. Like I said, this is what *I* think, and
it may or may not be true in the eyes of everyone else.

I was going to say that I'm not jealous about you having a ring, but what the heck, you just showed the public exactly what you have turned this into; a personal attack. I admit, I'm disappointed I lost the challenge, but I will try again and again. No need to be jealous of someone having a ring. Am I jealous of Luth, for having a ring? Am I jealous of everybody that has ever wearing a ring, and I haven't yet? Am I jealous of Dal, because
he is overlord and I'm not? Please, Huma, if you attempt to humiliate me in public, don't be burying yourself, too.
A few more notes. First of all, Huma, I am disappointed you posted something, and not one part was in recognition towards the main topic. Second of all, I am slightly irritated by the way you turn one opinion around, and start personally attacking me. As I said, I personally felt that you use your ring to gain respect. Then again, it's hard to sound nice when you express negative feelings toward them. By your words, you just meant to flame
the boards, in my opinion. And I am sure you will deny this, but that's your own hand your cramping by writing the nonsense.
However, I will put something on this post that is on topic. As Aja said, we found the problem, now let's find out the solution. I will rewrite what I said, since Aja might have missed it in the previous writing.
"Try to guide the new duelers under your wings. If they accept, then be proud that you are helping the community. If they are rude, then leave them be, and let them learn. When newcomers insult me, I generally shrug, and let them say what they want, because acknowledgeing them in any other way would encourage them that that's the proper way to get attention"
I hope this little word of advice does branch off to some other ideas that might be more productive.
