Castle Mine... empty
Her long legs swung again, the heels of her combat boots striking the unfeeling stonewall with barely a thud. The wind played games in her unbound burgandy hair and half-blinded the forest green eyes that peered out into the distance. Her vantage point perched on the highest parapet on the castle walls allowing her to see for what seemed like miles.
Night was falling and the sun was in the process of being swallowed up by the mountains that surrounded the hillside. The colors blended and swirlled, darkness engulfing the shades one by one, leaving only the vast void of space littered with points of light.
Red had roamed the halls of the Citadel every night in it's entirity every night for the past ten that had come and gone without word nor hint of where Rix was. In his absence others had slowly begun to approach her about matters of state and business. She took to counting the number of steps it took to wind her way through the castle and then the echos each step produced as she proceeded down the abandoned portions of the citadel.
She had been surprised at the number of rooms she had never seen; she had been more surprised when she found a hidden doorway in one. The room was laden with a fine, white layer of dust and it's furnishings were of a style Red couldn't seem to place. The very air in the room wreaked of age and time spent in solitude.
But even with this wonderous discovery, Red could not shake off her growing discontent with inaction at Rix's disappearance. Her "advisors" told her constantly now that she had a responsibility to those Rix was the sovereign of and that everything possible was being done to find him.
But in a castle full of servants and advisors all Red could hear was the echos of her footfalls as she searched and the echo from the abandoned halls as they reverberated in her heart.
