I am one of the many commoners occupying these halls, and I must say one thing to my fellow fighters of my rank. It does not matter HOW the other person fights, so long as you fight BETTER. No matter how fancy a parry may be, it does naught if ye do the move that beats it. That comes with experiance. Watch G, or Baron Huma, or the Overlord fight. They know how and when , for the most part , to strike or not strike. That , my dear fighters ,
come with time and repitition. If I only reach Man at Arms, or even stay a commoner, then so be it....the Fates did not will it.
I fight mostly in the Outback, where I am currently a Sapphire. Most duel with no mods, an agreement made BEFORE the bout usually. Some use them. I use them if the other does. I have been held back from the the next rank( same as your Warlord rank) by glasses(commoners) just this weekend. You can win, if y e have patience and persistance. But do not cloud your honor, or your ranks, by complaining because of being bested by a higher rank. Take
honor in honing your skills, and facing a worthy opponent. If he does something to belittle you( like a certain warlord did to me when he defeated me 6-5 in 12r!) then ignore him. Hone your skills and meet him later, perhaps when you have a higher rank! Revenge is sweet!
I have said enough, perhaps too much. Just duel, and may the best fighter win.....

::grins as he writes::
I am not trying to get anything started. I agree with everyone in that they have earned the rank and the use of the fancy maneuvers. I just thought I would write that some duelers with higher ranks, and I am not speaking of anyone in particular, are arrogant enough to say that they can win with 'one arm tied behind their back.' If that be the case then let it happen. But if the higher rank use their fancy maneuvers, then, like everyone before has
said, live with it and learn from it.

::Very late one night, after finally deciding to take pen to paper and post a responce, Drakewyn sets her daughter Delilah down on the floor:: "Yes hon, you can play in the sand... just be careful incase someone comes in." ::Delilah toddles off to play with her stuffed toys in the sand of one of the rings while her mother pens a quick statement.::
Ladies and Gentlemen of all ranks.
Quite simply, it should be noted that there are often duels where, even between two WarLords, only two or three fancy maneuvers will be seen. I, personally, am not one to be fanciful in my defencive ploys upon every occasion... And for this, I have been accused of "toying" with my opponent! A certain newer WarLord once accused me of dragging out a fight, just because I had not gone for the full stylistic point that a fancier parry would have
given me.
At one time, it was my practice to not go "all out" against those of lower ranks... until a member of one of those lower ranks reminded me that they would not get that kind of consideration when they got to a higher rank, and why should they get it now? In the ring, I show -all- my opponents an equal level of respect, save for those who have earned, in my eyes, a higher level of -my- respect... not the community's respect, by my own.
When it comes to regulation dueling, I will -always- duel to the best of my ability, and I will -always- choose for myself when to give a maneuver that extra "oumph" that gives me that extra advantage on the defence.
After hours, on the other hand, well... if you want to have a fun, play-around duel, let me know... I'm also willing to call duels, if I'm not busy with other parts of my overly-busy life.
Thank you all, those of you who read this, for your time.
Lady Drake.

Yet another thought..HTough I am currently no higher than swordsman, and this is the highest rank I have earned in the DoS, I have fought against and bested opponents with higher rankings than myself, though this is somehwat rare. And when I have been bested, I have never complained about it, often challenging the same person not more than a night or 2 later, determined to hone my skills against him. And never have I asked those of a higher
rank to give up the skills they have fought so hard to earn.

Well, Xy, I've dueled a total of 1140 in my career in DoS, spanning about a year and a half. Of those 1140 duels, you and I have faced each other a total of 15 times. The record is rather embarrassing for me, considering what it is.
The total record of Xyclone -vs- G'nort.....
3-11-1
::grins::
I don't think I want to duel you anymore.

So we all accept the fact that facing a higher-ranked opponent is putting yourself at a disadvantage. Now let's start paying that extra bit of respect to those who win despite the disadvantage, and those who don't press their own advantage and still win.
Here's an example.. a commoner fights Warlord A. Warlord A takes full advantage of their greater variety of point-scoring moves, and wins 5-2. The commoner then takes on Warlord B. Warlord B refuses to show off, using only those attacks the commoner also can perform, and wins 5-4. Personally, I'd be more impressed with the second one.

I've earned my whole 2 Fancies and I'll use them however I see fit. So If I chose to Fancy Dis your thrust or Fancy slash your parry, or just Fancy wave to Var as he enters the arena, you'll just have to fancy deal with that. Hell, I may even Fancy Whine about all the whining going on just might. Now, someone Fancy pass me the Fancy Cheese that goes with all this Fancy Whine.

Heyas,
Well...
Once upon a time...
When ta que be slow and there be none of me rank about, I was known ta *bargain* War Lords out of using their fancies. Simple, I tole them I dance if they keep their fancies to themselves. I remember taking on ta Tarl that way and he laughed through ta whole duel and we hae a good time. Never heard any complain.
So, tha' be me two bits. I say let it be between ta duelists, and if ta War Lords do nae like it; then they do nae hae ta duel and they can keep their whining about ta commoners asking after it to themselves.
By the way, it would take a mighty fast talker to bargain me out of using my fancies. But I would relish one trying it.
