::rolls her eyes as she reads the posts of someone who seems not to know how to state points terribly clearly, nor points that are true::

Sir Ryleigh:

It seems that -you- are the one who does not understand Old School and New School. Ally is "physically" speakingly correct, but when it comes to politics she isn't exactly correct.

Old Schoolers usually have been here for quite some time, New Schoolers are usually tiltled this because they are new. Kinda figures, doesn't it?

Now what you are trying to state about the relationship between Old and new School is very unclear, and mayhaps you could contact me and explain with some common English and thought out words, not this stupid fiddle faddle you polute our boards with.

Another note: Percy has written a fantastic article on Old and New School. i suggest that everyone, young and old, should read it, even if you consider yourself a master of the two schools.

I bid you all a good day,

::blushes, realizing a couple mistakes, sticks up another little note::

Ally was right in a scence is what I ment. Old and new School can be almost anything you want to make it out to be. Almost.

Also, Sir Ryliegh, it is considered very rude to insult an elder, meaning someone who's been around longer than you.

Jacob,
Where to start? Let's begin near the start.

>>While I feel many of these Old Schoolers fear the presence of some the New schoolers, for we may change the way the establishment had installed there ideas into each generation. Let me give you a brief description of what I would consider Old School Philosphy.<<

To suggest that anyone here fears anyone else, is absurd. But you cover yourself very well by saying "While I feel..." But, everyone sees though that.
Next...

>> Old Schoolers seem to form an alliance to protect one another from upcomming challengers, by using a political structure, which is allowed by the for fathers of the arena. An example of this is the Alliance to the Overlord. The Barons now has protection & also protects the Overlord by using the Test of Wortheness to their challengers. They believe since this is allowed in the structure that is honorable to use it. <<

Obviously, the political structure was set up by the forfathers for a reason.
As for the "Test Of Wortheness" If you're really a good dueler, this should be of no concern to you. Could it be fear talking, Jacob?
As for the Barons. Their loyalty to the Overlord is a choice. As you know, there have been Renegade Barons. Or haven't you checked the history?
As for the honor to use it...No one but you seems to have a problem with it. It is the way things work here. And it works quite well, might I add.
Next....

>>Old schoolers fundamentals beliefs seem to be that you earn respect from the years & outstanding performances. That structure outside the ring is involved to what happens inside the ring. They believe you must prove yourself above normal talents to have an opportunity to duel them. That they may decline to duel a lower rank until they see it is fit. The Old Schoolers follow the structure to a T & will use whatever method they may maintain.
Old Schooler is the philosphy that seem to hold the seats & is followed by many of the lower ranks.<<<

Anyone can refuse to duel lower ranks. As for those higher up, they have EARNED their right to refuse any duel.
Have you personally talked to each dueler and gotten their personal opinion on dueling lower ranks? Or have you been making general assumptions?
Have you put aside your general dislike for the people of the sport long enough to discover the reasons things are done this way, or have you been happy in your ignorance?
Next......

>>New Schoolers are a bit more split up into different views with one another. New Schoolers are ones that don't follow the normal beliefs of Old Schooler, yet doesn't totally agree with other New School Beliefs.
New Schoolers are the minority views of the arena, until they join together or slowly take the seat saway from the establishment & maintain there views so that future duelers may follow their beliefs in the future.<<<

Alright, I've tried to avoid generalizing here, but I find it difficult to do so.
New Schoolers...that would be all the new patrons of the arena, Correct? In saying they are new to the arena, they are also new to the rules, new to the ettiquette. Mistakes are made.
Would you walk into a strange place and insult the owner? I think not. Why then is it ok for you to insult the most respected patrons of the DoS? To insult the way things are done?
Please, by all means, think carefully about that.
Next.......

>>So, if you want to know what one example of a New Schooler, then I shall let you know what I was raised to follow. I Do not believe you earn respect! Respect must be given to all that exist. If you are a swordsman, you still deserve the same amount of respect as the Baron, I might admire the Baron for his/her skills, but I do not treat him with more respect than a swordsman.
To lose respect from me is to deny a challenge from me or to challenge one of lower ranks.<<

Respect is earned. No one is going to instantly respect you. If you show respect, you get respect. So far, you're not doing so well on that part.
Baron's are respected more than Swordsman for a good reason. They have made their way up the ranks to get to the position of Baron. But that is not the only way to be respected here.
Several duelers that are in the lower ranks are respected, because they have shown they have honor, grace, and they offer their respect to others. I am going out on a limb here, and will say that I am a respected person, because I have shown my respect to others. I may not always agree with them, but they know that I am not personaly slamming them or their beliefs, just stating mine. And I'm only a commoner. Explain that one, eh?
Next....

>>Second, The Baron Renegade Huma is actually following a New School Philosphy, He did not choose to alliey with the Overlord. He has enough honor to fight his own battles & to truly prove that he is the best swordsman to hold his ring. He lets his blade speak for himself, no one else. As I said with the Overlord, He should feel shameful in not believing in his own talents to let the Baron interceed, a
true swordsman would be glad to prove his
own worth instead of making the other prove his worth, after rising up the ranks.<<

Careful how you speak of my husband, Jacob. I'm sure he'd be quite surprised to learn that he follows what you call "New School Philosphy".
Renegade Barons do not have anyone to interceed on their behalf. The price of being Renegade. Having someone interceed is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, I would consider it quite a statement on my person, if one of the Barons stepped in with his blade on my behalf. It would indicate that I was truely respected.
Huma has his reasons to be renegade. He's quite different in his views, one of the reasons I married him. But, he's definately not part of the New Schooler group you speak of.
Please use someone else to demonstate your point of view. Perhaps one you know a bit better. I resent my husband being used in this manner.
Next....

>>Third, To G, You tell me that I look foolish, for sayin what I have said, I am sadden somewhat, for you have just contridicted what you said, you believe I am foolish for standing by my belief, & yet the Overlord & Oakensheild are honorable for stickin to their beliefs. While I do not consider them enemys outside the arena, They are my foes inside, they are the ones I want to unseat & to
implant my New School Philosphy into a seat. I will
honor them with there beliefs the day I challenge them & follow their structure, but I will not agree with their ideas they hold. <<

Don't even start on G. You have no idea what you're talking about here.
As for unseating Jeff and the Overlord..::grins:: This should be amusing to watch. Since you could only hold one seat, and I doubt enough people would back you to hold the others needed to change things.
And who said you were right? That your philosophy was better somehow? You? One against the many who like things they way they are.
I am not slamming you, dear Jacob. But I urge you to think before you speak next time. All you have accomplished here, is showing the entire population of RhyDin how narrow minded you are.
Next.....

>>As to making friends, I make friends to one that duel to the best of their abilities & are not afraid to show their skills to their challengers, we are trained swordsman who live by the blade here, not politician, let the RhyDin Government handle that outside the Arena. While I veiw you with amirement for your talents when I first enter the arena & was able to duel a skilled Warlord like you many
of times, I must disagree on the beleifs
you were raise on.<<

G is not the only one who thinks that way. Politics are part of the arena. It may be confusing to you, but if you take the time to learn instead of condemn, you might see the purpose of it.
Next......

>>To Jona, I believe you must be the one with that unique language, sorry, m'lady, I would need someone to translate what you wrote, for I can not comprehend what you are trying to state?<<

The rest of understand her...well, most of the time. Maybe you just don't want to see the truth the lady is famous for speaking?

And that concludes my two bits on the subject. Please consider thinking a bit more before opening your mouth next time.
Less insults to the Overlord and Barons would also be appreciated.

Hardly ever interceding on political affairs, she finds this one too good to pass up. Sweeping out a sheet of paper, she scrawls a hasty note and smacks it up to the boards.

Mr. Ryleigh,

First off, I would really be interested in knowing where you got your definition discerning the difference between "Old School" and "New School". How long have you been here, three weeks? Four?

You talk of "Old Schoolers" protecting the "Old Schoolers" by means of the political alliance system, blah, blah, blah. If I didn't know better, I would wonder what you are after here. Jealous of the system because you can't be part of it? Geez, instead of going on and on about it, make yourself a part of it. If I'm not mistaken, and I know I'm not, there are numerous duelists that garner the "Old School" tag who have not been warlords, barons, or
any other of the higher rankings. There is more to it than what you think, hun.

Then you go off on how respect must be earned. I don't want to hear you talk about respect in any means, after you blow snot at the Overlord and those positioned higher than you. If that is your idea of respect, than you need to find a new definition.

As for this "New School shall overcome the Old School" piddle, I would advise you get over it very quickly and find a new hobby. I'm sure I'm not the only one sick of hearing about it. I am extremely taxed when I come to the boards and read countless comparisons and prophecies. It's crap. As with many of your other philosophies, I have no clue where you found the idea that all Old School people are a tightly slicked band with no intentions of
lowering themselves. Actually, the "Old Schoolers" are some of the nicest people you will ever meet, seeing as if you would take time to remove your head from your ass and attempt to get to know them.

A bit irked, but now feeling much better,

Elle.

::stands before the great board and leafs through the myriad of opinions, and rebuttals to them. Catching the jist of one in particular he reads the entire line of thought. After a mild debate within himself he pens a response:::

Lord Dalamar, Baron Oakenshield and Lord Gnimoi,

Might I say the challenge was an interesting as well as entertaining event?
Dalamar, well chosen, both on the Baron to test the Warlord as well as the test itself.
Jeffery, You have started a new trend here with the fancy retreat you exhibited that night. And OverGnome, well tried as was expected.
I doubt any that know of the relationships twixt Dal and the Gnome would have expected anything less than the test of worthiness. Even Gnimish must have known he would not face Dalamar without it.
As for the New School poster lad, I have a few words of my own to share with you.
If you will indulge an old man his ramblings, do read on.
My time amongst the Lord and Ladies of RhyDin is short as compared to the Overlord, and the list of those that predate me would fill this board. There are those such as Iain Mac Kenzie, Queen Luthien, Goldendust Evermeadow, The Cocksure braggart Billy Ray, and of course the Lady Jonalyn. There are of course many more than I dare to mention. These folk have graced the rings of the arena for many years and I doubt seriously you are the first to come
in, jaw cocked and a swagger in yer walk trying to make changes you deem needed about the realm. There was a young duelist not more than a year ago that had grand ideas to break down the walls of isolation here about, but that same man has now grown wiser and has joined the same school he had attempted to bring down.
As for respect being rightful to all that attend the duels, I saw hog wash. There are many forms of respect but there is but honor. My skills as a Warlord has brought respect to my blade. Nothing more, nothing less. My treatment of those that inhabit the rings however, has brought me a respect that I value much more.
You Lord Ryliegh claim to have excellent skills in the ring and are the self proclaimed leader of the * New School* class. I say you are just another man, with a blade and an attitude.
Should you desire treatment befitting an honorable man, show your self to be one. The praddle I read on this board, I credit to your youth. In my home we call this * Young Buck Syndrome* You appear to me a yearling during the Rut, flared nostrils and an over abundance of Testosterone coursing through your veins. As I see it, the deer of this herd know full well who the stags are that you butt yer horns with and have spoken accordingly. Your time may
come soon enough, but should you carry this attitude to the pinnacle of the sport, thy fall will surely me swift. Enough of my ramblings, I am certain there are better things for one to do with their time here in Rhy Din.

>>On the other hand, I do not like Aja's usage of the word "several" by the number of lower ranked duelers deserving of respect. Several denotes to me a very low number. Does that mean that most commoners (and swordsmen, maybe) do not deserve respect. And since anyone who shows honor and respect, Aja said, should be respected, does that mean that almost all of the duelers in question do not believe in
those values?<< Jaem Triver

>>I believe Aja was genealizing. She's known to do tht, so don't jump to any conclusions about my wife.<< Huma Dragonbane

Thanks honey. You're absolutely right.
I meant no offense. I meant many..several just sounded better. My mistake.
I certainly am not implying that there are only a few lower ranked people that deserve respect.

Is this a sport or philosophy class? I was thinkin' this was the Duel of Swords. T'would mean talk of old and new means less than squat if ye lose. If ye have the rank and think so little of any one holding a title, challenge. If ye canna challenge, please peddle crazy some place else.

We're all stocked up here.

::Sighs and writes::

Alright, I'm sorry to say this, but this is pathetic.
Jacob, you, by no way have read the rules, have you? I see your point where you think one would/should fight for his own rank, but I do not agree. The rules basically say, "Any loyal baron has the right to intercede on this challenge" Baron Jeff is showing his loyalty by offering his blade. Do you call a king a coward, when his faithful knight falls upon his own sword, to save his life? From what you are saying here, you would be calling
that knight an idiot, and the king incompetent.
Gnim knew his challenge had a chance of being interceded, and he accepted it. If you cannot accept the rules of DoS, then perhaps you shouldn't be dueling. Don't think I am trying to be harsh, but this has nothing to do with old school/new school. That seems to be a coverup. You merely quesiton the honor of the overlord, which, if I may say, is off base. Please think about where you are.

::Penning a quick note while her daughter plays in the sand of one of the dueling rings.::

Mr. Ryleigh:

I have restrained myself from a reply for long enough.
Quite simply put... you sir, are an arse.
You speak of things which you have so little knowledge of, that it is laughable. I'm sure that Moralitor the Black would have truely been insulted to be termed a "New Schooler" for being a Renegade Baron just a few months ago.
While the politics of the Arena -can- be roughly devided into the "Support Dalamar" and the "Don't Support Dalamar" camps... it -cannot-, by any means, be divided into such arbitrary groups as you suggest.
And I'd like to point out that, even amoung Dalamar's supporters, there are those who did not like his constant use of the "Test of Worthiness."
Let's get this straight and end all this foolish talk of "camps" and "schools of thought" and other arbitrary dividers of people...
Each person who walks through the doors of the Arena is an -individual-. Each person, no matter how intelligent, educated, or even crass and boorish they are, is capable of making their own decision. If some people want to get together and call themselves friends, boon companions, or life-long allies, that is good for them... and, in general, good for the community as a whole.
I am a dueler... I am a WarLady... I am a person who chooses to support our current Overlord.
More importantly, I am the mother of a wonderful little girl... which is what matters more than any kind of dueling or politics.
Now, who are you?

Lady Drake.
