Evan,

Whenever I had somethin' ta say Dal listened. We are friends, he listens ta me and I listen ta him. Perhaps *he* is not da problem here. Maybe ya didn't make much of an effort ta be his friend, and in return got verra little.

::Reads what's being said, though he hopes Dal continues to be overlord, he decides not to take part in this discussion over Dal's "actions". He just thinks out loud::

When you swing high, you leave yourself open for a low blow... when you swing low, you leave yourself open for a high blow. Perhaps it is better not to swing, and not set oneself up for any attack at all.

Evan,

To call one person shallow simply because he didn't make the effort to be your friend is what seems shallow, in my mind. As Jeff said, effort has to be made on both sides, friendship isn't something that comes about merely because of a declaration of loyalty to an Overlord.

Evan~

Were you to spend as much time with Dal as I have, you'd know that he's anything but shallow.

Fellow Duelists-

I have been in the Duel of Swords for a good 4 weeks now, 5 if you count the week I decided to *train*. So I like to consider myself more of a regular dueler than a newbie now.
During those few weeks I have studied both the sport and its surrounding politics closely. Since its really not my nature to go around telling my opinions, because this is all it is, I'm just going to give you an idea.
On the sport - I've been coming to the arena every chance I get(basicly when the doors open:) and have gotten to know a few of you well or have bumped into most once or twice. Now back on subject. When I'm in the arena I see many of the high ranking members of the sport. What I have noticed is this... they aren't thinking of politics or what sort of remark they can say to an un-needed post, they are out having a good time in the
rings... just like they should be. The only time I see politics carried into a ring is for title matches, which are always very enjoyable to watch I might add.
On politics - From what I see, politics only take place on these boards... where duelist may post their minds freely(within the rules of TOS of course:) which gets a few people a little unhappy, or even inspired to reply in a critical manner. Now, in my view, politics make this sport better. If the older duelers(which I don't believe for a moment) are planning on some take over of the higher ranks or if the Overlord feels a Baron has
been unloyal or vice versa.. it just adds to the overall story of the game. Not everyone can be friends and that should be expected. A new Baron is given a choice apon reaching his status. Renegade or Loyal. The first time I saw an official title match I learned, the Overlord means business... when he offers the choice between Renegade or Loyal he isn't offering any sort of friendship. He merely wishes to have a notable Baron, who has obviously
proven his skill, under his reigns and protection(and vice versa). If the Baron only wanted his title just so he could have a few higher up friends, I'd have to say he was going about it the wrong way. I'd also recommend coming down to the arena and try making a few of them there. I see numerous Barons and very respected and skillful Warlords in there everynight(even when the doors where official closed:), I even see the Overlord... just enjoying
himself, not distancing himself from anyone or group. I know, believe me, that friendship can be an overnight thing... or it may take sometime. In my first few weeks, whenever I noded respectively to a Baron, Warlord, or Overlord or even asking for a little advice on which moves beat which(I still get the NO SLASHING thing all the time:) I didn't expect them to even acknowldge me... for the moment that is, I knew I was new and the process of making
friends was going to be a long one... but well worth the wait. And it has paid off, I don't consider myself good friends with many of the more regular duelers but I know it will change in time. Now they know I'm no one time dueler and that I'll be around a good while. Which has led me to some intresting people to say the least. Anyhow, my point is. Making friends, anywhere in life, isn't going to happen by gaining titles or respect. You must
put forth the effort in getting to know them and don't expect everyone to just befriend you instantly.
Sorry if my points don't make any sense but they are just my opinions and am expecting a litte headache ober them. :) Take care everyone.
