On his own...

Huma stood in his office at his bar, looking out the window. He looked down the road, where Aja's shipyards were. How long he stood just silently watching the road he will never know. Huma had come to RyDin alone, when he gained his Baron's ring, it was not soon after that he again would stand alone politically. Now, Aja was leaving. She would be returning to her home she has never seen before, and she was taking thier unborn child. She
had promised to return as soon as possible, but that held no comfort in Huma's eyes, or heart. this trip was something Aja had to do, they had fought night after night about her not going, but it seemed Aja always gets the better of Huma in any arguement.
He shook his head and stepped away from the window, allowing the blinds to fall back in place. Huma still wondered about the attack against him a few weeks prior, how it made no sense, or who even would have sent those men. This was the furthest thing from Huma's mind at this point in time. His leg was almost fully healed thanks to special herbs and what Huma believed to be magic. Huma shook his head again and settled himself into the soft chair
behind his desk. He briefly glanced at his inventory and overhead records, a quick toss to the table behind the desk was the end of those. Huma pulled open a drawer in his desk, and with a quick motion uncorked the bottle, taking a small drink of golden liquid and sighed. He could not imagine living in Aja's house...not without her. Even the thought of life in general seemed bleek and boring without his misfit telling him what a butthead he is at
times. Huma ran a hand through his hair as he took another drink of whiskey, before picking the recods up from the table behind him to finally get some work done....

Sitting in his chair, a half full botle of whiskey in his left hand, a pen in his right, Huma tapped the pen on the desk while looking over the records for the bar. his thoughts occasionally going to Aja, thier child, the attack against him, and what life will be like without Aja. Huma frowned as he wasn't getting much done. He takes a drink from the bottle and looks at a cot in the corner.
"Think I'll be staying here after she leaves." Huma whispered to himself. He had decided he wouldn't feel at home in the house he now lived when Aja left. Another drink from the bottle. Huma's thoughts now went to the attack, why it happened, and who doesn't like him enough to send would be hitmen. Huma taps the pen against the side of his head, then drains the rest of the bottle into his gut. Tossing the bottle into a can next to the desk, he
stands and moves to the cot in the corner. While laying down and getting comfortable, huma thought back to one of the first times he spoke with Aja. He smiled as the warm memories filled his head, but as quick as he was to smile, a tear formed in his eyes. Huma sat up straight, his head spun as the whiskey was taking hold of him fully now. Feeling sick to his stomach suddenly, Huma stood and walked into the common room with the intention of going
out for air. Vedo just looked at Huma as he staggered through the room.
As he closed the door, he felt a little better in the fresh air. He could still see the shipyards from where he stood. He wondered if he should go visit her or not. huma shook his head and plopped down on his butt right there in front of the door. A few passers by could have sworn he was a statue, for he did not even blink for nearly 20 long minutes. His head no spinning wildly from the whiskey, Huma layed his head back against the door behind him,
his eyes rolled back into thier sockets as he passed out in the afternoon sun.

Rico popped his head in the door.
"Quitting time, Aja."
"In a second." Aja didn't bother to look up until Rico walked over and took her arm.
"Come on..you need to get home and get some rest."
"Who pays your salary again?" Aja grinned at him and stood up.
"You do. Which is why I don't want you wearing yourself out before payday." They walked out the door into the sunshine.
"Nice day out here." Aja waved to some of the men as she and Rico made their way toward the gate.
"You really need to come out of that office once in a while."
"I do. But then Parker shoos me right back in." The pair walked out of the lot and started down the street. "Ya don't have to walk me to the bar."
"There's been talk of a rowdy group hanging out just in the next town. I wouldn't dare leave you unprotected. Huma would kill me."
Aja chuckled and nodded a little knowing that Huma does get a bit overprotective at times. Looking ahead, they saw a man laying in front of the door to the bar. Rico picked up his pace and took a closer look. He looked up at Aja as she got closer.
"Who..." Aja didn't have to finish the sentence as she recognized the clothes and boots. "Oh for Zeus sakes..Huma Dragonbane, you are going to be the death of me." She got down next to him and took him in her arms. Looking up, she said. "Rico, please go get Vedo." Rico nodded and went inside.
Huma moaned and she could have sworn she heard her name, but couldn't be sure. All she knew was she could easily smell the whiskey. Shaking her head slowly, she let Rico and Vedo take him inside.
Aja follow the men into the office and watched them lay Huma down on the cot. She thanked them both as they went back into the common room. Aja got a clothes and wiped his forehead off a bit, then sat down in the chair behind the desk. He muttered in his drunken slumber and Aja almost laughed, but she found this more disturbing than anything else. If she had ever worried about how he'd do after she left, this gave her ample reason for the
concerns.
"Huma, darlin, ya can't be doing this." She stroked his hair while she spoke softly to him. "You can't be burying yourself in the bottom of whiskey bottles. God, baby don't you know how much this hurts? Don't you know that I don't wanna leave you really..I just need to go home..and find something solid..something real..something that I lack..for you, for the baby..for us."
A tear slipped down her cheek. Aja leaned back in the chair as a sharp pain shot through her. She almost smiled. "Even our baby agrees." Another pain went through her and she stood up carefully and went to the door. Aja took one last look at Huma, before heading out to find Rico.

Huma sat up quickly, his head spun and throbbed from the movement. It was dark out, he was alone in his office, laying on his cot. He wondered how he got there."last thing i remember I sat down out front...maybe I got up and came in here." Huma shrugged and spun so his feet touched the floor. He put a hand to his head and rubbed lightly. He could hear voices in the common room of the tavern, so he knew he was not alone in the building,
and that it was not that late. Huma stood slowly and forced himself to walk into the other room. Vedo looked him over when he leaned up againstthe bar.
"You ok boss?"
"Fine." was Huma's reply. He looked around at the few people in the tavern. Huma rubbed his nose, then after seeing another bottle of whiskey within reach, he scooped it up and uncorked the bottle. "Only one way to cure a headache besides waiting it out.." Huma tilted the bottle up as the last word was softly spoke.
"I don't think you should be drinking so much boss." Vedo's voice was flat. He just looked at Huma, knowing what was going on, but decided it was none of his business.
"I'll be the judge of that Vedo." Huma's voice was almost cold as he took another drink from the bottle and marched back into his office.

Aja layed on the bed in the guest room watching Parker run in and out. The sweat beaded on her forehead. She thought of the women that had three and four children and had decided about an hour ago that they were insane.
Maria came in again and wiped off her forehead gently.
"How you doing?"
"Just shoot me, Maria. It'd be a lot less painful."
"Childbirth is not easy, Aja."
"Really, Maria?" Aja got snappish as another contraction hit. Maria took her hand and spoke softly to her.
"Breathe slowly, Aja." Aja's eyes flickered up at Maria's face. She briefly considered chasing her out, but the pain hadn't overridden her good sense. She just followed Maria's advice and kept quiet.
The pain passed and Aja slowly looked around. Parker came in once more and checked the baby's position.
"It it almost time, Aja." Aja nodded a bit.
"Would you like me to send Rico to fetch Lord Huma?" Aja considered that thought as the next contraction started.
"No..I think it best he's not here. I'd kill him." Maria would have laughed but Aja screamed as the next pain ws stronger than before.

Hours later, Aja was staring at the beautiful baby boy laying next to her with a happy smile. Maria came back in after taking care of several things and sat next to the bed watching mother and child.
"He's precious, Aja."
"That he is Maria." She looked up for a brief moment. "Did Rico go out to get Huma?"
"Aye. He should have found him by now. I wonder what's taking them so long?"
"I'd rather not say. My suspicions will only make me angry." Aja returned her gaze to the sleeping baby next to her. "I wonder what we should name you little one? A name fitting of young man, but not so cutsie that the other boys will torment you." Aja smiled.
Her thoughts were of this beautiful little boy, and where Huma was as she drifted off to sleep.
