One other thing, for the patrons,
I personally am not defending Dalamar's use of the test per se. I am defending his right as Overlord to make that decision for himself. Our detractors seem to think that he should have some code or committee he should answer to...when all I am saying is that Dalamar and every Overlord before him has had these options at his fingertips.....and they shall do as they wish.
You may not like it. Hell....at times I don't even like it. But there is little that can be done about it...and it is not my perogotive to tell the Holder of the Crown how to conduct himself on the Throne. And those that think it is their perogotive are sorely mistaken. Opinions matter, thoughts are taken into account, but when it comes down to the end game. Nothing matters but the choices made...and you, nor I have any control of
them.

I'm really not sure if I should post this, but I think Adonai just needs to get a bit more angry.
Adonai, if you do not condone the Overlord's conduct, why remain Loyal? I am sure that Huma, and even Evan, have views regarding the Overlord's power similiar to yours, and have chosen Renegade because they do not agree with them. I'm not sure why you stay Loyal if you don't like what Dal is doing....it suggests to me that you might be hiding behind the alignment.
But what do I know?

"You my verbose adversary have once again placed yourself in business that is not yours. I complain not. You wish me to answer for yours and Kalameres distaste with Dalamar's practices and my faith in a friend then by all means DO SO."
Ahh, Adonai. Shall we speak of such things?
You, who before I uttered a word to you, began asserting that it was my intention to directly challenge Dalamar, are now telling me I'm stepping in things that are none of my concern? The business of these rings IS my business, Lord Uziel, and even my detractors more often than not concede this.
Still, you go on, and on, and on, martyred by politics in a political arena. And you, in your deepest wisdom, look behind corners for motivations, when everything is clearly in the open.
A shame, this is, as I find it truly regretful - and, indeed, said so - that I must needs take a stance against Dalamar, whom I have ever considered a friend, and still do. Dalamar knew that there was a faction clearly opposed to the testing of Barons under any circumstance - and chose to do so, knowing full well that it would be reacted to.
You stand loyal to him, knowing his policy of arranging challenges to renegades and defending his loyals. When those methods are turned against him - arranging challenges of his loyals - you cry foul. Do you wonder, then, why Kalamere chose you? As for you, and your insistence that I silence myself... silence me yourself, if my words torment you so. It will not, however, halt the cause.
I remain,

"I am defending his right as Overlord to make that decision for himself." - Adonai Uziel, defender of the faith.
Alas, nobody has stated that he does not have that right. He has every right to do as he sees fit.
He does not have the right to be free from criticism for doing so, nor from action against him and his by those with the means to act, nor from open revolt against his reign.
So... what were you defending again, Lord Uziel?

Lord Glowacki,
I assure you I do not hide behind my alignment. I myself have faced two challengers and defeated them with skill of my own, even calling Dalamar back from what I believed was a rightful intercession when Baron Dragons Bane stepped forward to defend General Perrinis, as I would not have two of my friends fight over my challenge.
So to accuse me of duplicity is incorrect and only shows that you know me not. Aye at times I have had misgivings but that does not make me turn my back on a friend. I am loyal to Dalamar out of friendship and respect. Not out of any need to protect my title.
I may not like it sometimes when Dal uses the test. Most recently testing Gnimish Gnimoi...that I did not agree with. But it is his decision, I appraised him of my discontent with that and that was all I could do. Friends forgive Steve....friends forgive.
Mayhaps if the Overlord was to change...and that person perpetuated the same practices Dalamar is...or Athlstan was...I would become a flamingly voiceferous Renegade, and my challenge would be forthcoming to that person. But in this case....my loyalties to my friends overrides that.
I stand loyal to the Overlord...surrounded by a Council of Barons that are my friends, and that I respect deeply, all of them, in some degree. Even the Renegade Huma Dragons Bane commands my respect and friendship. And for these reasons.....I forgive that which I do not agree with.
Be assured that if I was not with with those that I am with, and was not held in the regard and respect that I am by these individuals. I would be lighting the fires of war myself.
Regards,
~Adonai Uziel~

Lord Mackenzie,
What am to I defend now? I defend the same thing...but I will do so with my blade, as will many others. You wish to start your war with me old man....I tell you now....you have made the WRONG decision.
I say now, that the Loyals will stand against you, and we will face down your challengers, your bid for revolution lacks a significant element. Support. Aye you have your faction...but eventually you will run out of Warlords and volunteers, How many of the loyals do you think you can remove? How many? One? Mayhaps two?
Then it will come down to you and you alone. You say you have no ambition for any title. But eventually...the last blade you will have to fall back on will be your own. The Loyals won't support your cause, the Overlord sure as the Abyss will not. And even the Renegades are leary of joining you in your revolution, as it does nothing but perpetuate the feeling of negativity and ill will in the Arenas.
As to crying foul....I do not. I merely respond to your wisened rantings in appropriate fashion. And I call you where I believe you are wrong as is MY right.
So come and get me old man, you'll find your path strewn with thorns in your quest to depose Dalamar...and believe you me...I shall be one of the largest of them.

Adonai:
I have nothing to "come and get."
As for support... we've already seen one challenge come this night without my indulgence, request, or support in any way. I suppose we shall see.
Understand this, Lord Uziel... I do not condemn you for standing loyal to a friend. In fact, I do not condemn you at all. This is not about people, or friendship, or feelings toward individuals, in any respect. This is a matter of principle.
For some, principles may be bent in order to remain loyal to friends. There is nothing untoward or improper in this; however, it must be remembered that for others, friendships may be bent in order to remain true to convictions and principles.
Do not take this as an insult, but as explanation - friends can come and go, and stab you in the back, but principles are yours, and they are the only thing that will never betray you. As long as you remain true to them, you remain true to yourself. If one of those principles is "remain true to your friends no matter what," so be it. This issue is one of my convictions, and I cannot - and will not - back down from it over friendship, concern
for my public stature, or because someone with a temper tells me it's none of my business.
I will leave you with this: You spoke eloquently, once, regarding the Barons standing together and not deriding one another in public in any fashion, because they are Barons, and deserve the respect and support of their peers, even when they are wrong.
A Baron was insulted last eve by someone who should have simply stepped forward and whipped his backside into line. Where has that support been for Evan? Did you neglect to append, "Except when the Baron insults the Overlord in response to an insult from the Overlord" to your comments?

Lord Tynsdale,
Perhaps ya would consider another factor at work when a champion steps forward. Both in my defenses of Leto Covington and Dalamar Ar'Daumon I asked fer da role. I didn't want ta see a new Overlord crowned, and I wanted ta have a part in seein' it didn't come ta pass. True its da Overlord's choice if he allows a champion or not, but when a loyal comes with a request, when a friend comes with a request, I would look down more on da one who denies
his friend, his loyalist.
I don't much like havin' Overlords step in my challenges or any barons, but Overlord's usin' champions seems a verra different matter ta me. He's got all da requests comin' in from his loyal friends and must make a choice which is more important; possibly slightin' da challenger and makin' him seem unworthy, or possibly slightin' a friend and tellin' him its not any of his business. Dal has fought fer himself on numerous occassions and he has
chosen a champion but 3 times in his 10 defenses (Ellisa, myself, BRK) if I recall.
I suppose da question I really need answered, da point I'm really tryin' ta make is, would ya turn away yer loyals and friends Iain? If ya were Overlord? As much as I like ta fight fer myself, I'm not sure I could...

Ok, ok, no need to explain it that long. Perhaps I may be wrong in saying you are hiding behidn your loyalty. So I wrote it quickly without thinking it out. I'm wrong now, nothing new. You are right, for once. Your friendship with Dalamar obviously means a lot to you, and that is something I did not realize. Thank you for that insight.
Now...if you weren't friends would you still support him? Perhaps this question is meaningless because you *are* friends, but what exactly does a friendship entail? I know many times in the past when a friend has done somthing I find truly wrong, I look for them to apologize to me for it, not me forgiving them. Sure, Dalamar is your Overlord, and you should try to respect his decisions. But is that not what the Renegade alignment is partially
for? When you no longer agree with what a friend says or does, and fails to say he is wrong for doing it, to me that signals an end to the friendship, regardless of rank, title, etc.
But...what do I know?

Adonai,
It is best to what I know that I have defended this ring twice and beat Kap to get it. Now let that stand as that, for I do have two more my way, Seamus once more and Var. Now, Adonai, how many Loyals do you think we can remove? I seem to have removed one myself. Sartan and you now have challenges. Maybee lately no one has stood up, but one will always do so. And now it seems two, and three. The numbers *will* keep growing cause you have
three sides. Ones that don't care about the Overlords over use of his power, ones that just don't care at all and us. Each time he does so, the numbers will become more thick on this matter. So keep up what you are doing, cause we will not stop. And I have said some strong words in the past and have held to them, so don't play me a fool.

Lord Oakenshield:
In the unlikely event that I were to somehow end up wearing the millstone that is the title Overlord, I can guarantee you that no sitting Baron would ever meet any blade other than my own if they issued challenge to me - even if that Baron were someone I'd sooner see hanging from the gallows than walking the street.
Again, this is a matter of principle.

Baron Evan,
Once again you astound me with your grasp of the english language. I do not believe I have at any time in this entire debate, addressed you nor have I brought your name up in any way.
So as for playing you as a fool, which was truly one of the few parts of your missive I understood. I have not.
As I said Evan.....better to be thought a fool for your silence, than to speak and leave no doubt.

::Sighs, writing::
Lords, ladies, and all those in between...
I find these words, arguments, and even this challenge, appalling. Is it not the best way, that if you do not like a political power, you go ahead and you challenge for that right? It's unfair, that some loyal barons are being "plucked" away when the main reason you're challenging is because you don't like the overlord. I believe that recently, there was a house who tried getting all the barons renegade. I think there were some who spoke up
against it, who are doing the exact same thing now.
Kalamere seems like a nice guy, but I honestly have question here. Kal, please don't get me wrong, because I in no way want to have a personal feud, especially if it's not necessary. What are your true reasons for this challenge, may I ask? I would prefer to read that you are challenging Adonai for something HE did. Do you attack someone who has a religion you don't believe in? I would prefer to know you attacked someone with a different
religion, because they did something to you, or something dishonorable.
Adonai, though we have good times dueling, I just want to say this: Primarily, I learned the hard way that slinging mud, and throwing insults won't make you look any better, or make the person attacked feel any better. If Evan said something that offended you, then try to speak with diplomacy. Name calling won't solve this. Iain, Steve, I think you have both done this too.
As many of you figured, I'm trying to be diplomatic. DoS is a wonderful sport, but perhaps the community can try to be kinder with words, and slower to draw the blade. As I wrote to Evan, I challenged him because I vowed to a good friend G, that I would "avenge" him. I don't seek vengeance, in the aspect of anger, but I want G to know that someone who holds him in high regards, had possession of the ring.
I'm not trying to say we're all wrong, but I am personally tired of going through these insults; especially when I used to be the one throwing them.
