Another type of Baron

It is high time we give the baronial ranks an evolutionary boost.

It's time we thought of making a Neutral loyalty class, one with some benefits from both as well as an equal amount of negatives. The DoS isn't all black and white after all, let see if we can do somethin' ta' show that.

Just my $1.57

If memory serves me correctly, this issue was addressed in the Rules discussion a few short months ago. Perhaps we will see its inception, if not we need to bring it up during the next rules discussion.

Another ranking of Baron is what I said before my first challenge. Though, none of the Barons now would switch.

>>Though, none of the Barons now would switch. <<

I don't think that can be determined until you ask them all individually. I'll go out on a limb, though, even if it results in me looking like I'm putting words in Barons' mouths...

No one can agree with another's actions and thoughts a hundred percent of the time. And if they say they do, they're either lying or the type of loyalist we're now referring to as blind. In my eyes, pledging loyalty is saying you agree with the Overlord enough to see past the differences you will inevitably have. Pleding renegade, on the other hand, is saying that you don't want to support opinions you disagree with. (These opinions may be
small or major issues...it all depends, obviously, on the titleholders at the time.)

Now, being friends/friendly to the Overlord is almost a given when you're loyal. If you support someone's beliefs enough to fight for them (the definition of a loyal Baron), one would assume you'd at least like the person. But being renegade doesn't have to mean you're the Overlord's sworn enemy, or vice versa. Given what I've seen so far, and what political views I, who's never so far managed to reach a rank above M@A, currently hold, I'd go
as far as to say that I'd be renegade to Dal...or any other Overlord, really, as my opinions are bound to differ from the Overlord's from time to time. This, as I said earlier, does not mean I don't like Dal, or have some bizarre grudge against any Overlord who would have me as Baroness.

My point, which I still claim to have under all these ramblings, is that perhaps some of our current loyals and renegades would be this neutral alignment. It would be an option between swearing to protect the Overlord in all his decisions and plotting his takedown, if I'm going to use classic stereotypes here. Of course, views of loyal and renegade are all relative, and adding a neutral choice might divide us more and more into the stereotypes
I already mentioned.

Karny,

I agree and disagree. It has always been my belief, while holding a ring, that I would either stand 100 percent loyal or if there were any doubts in my mind, renegade. I was renegade for two overlords and in both instances I held *no* negative feelings for that person. Had I, I'd have challenged outright.

If I couldn't support him/her fully (Alais and Leto, I was renegade for), it was because of belief they held directly to the title, but they were not so severe that I felt the title or my well being threatened by them or their beliefs. I'd also state that at the time, I was in a "watch, wait and see" state and chose renegade for that reason as well.

In all, my point is, to me (I emphasize *me*) the renegade is or *can be* either neutral or offensive. If you are a renegade with a serious issue in regards to the overlord, it seems to me that your smartest option is to recruit other renegades or challenge direct. Stand loyal only to those you can truly support in any decision.

Just my thoughts

Kappy,

I'll get you and yer little dog too....

Besides, if Neutrality were'nt a viable option then I'm gonna haveta' have Switzerland taken off my old maps.

It's just a matter of personal choice for duelers. Some kids don't wanna be involved in politics and, sorry, but being either renegade or Loyal puts one in a political catagory. I suppose a neutral baron is one who has no political views as such, they just want to hold the rank.

::Shrug:: I think it's better than a 10th ring.

Who's going to build the fence for the Neutral's to straddle?

::pondering aloud, "Picket er barbed wire."

Aye, Babe, tis indeed better than a tenth ring.
