Tonight I was witness to the challenge of Jesse Troyn vs. Baron Dragonbane. The battle proceeded as follows...
Huma--Th--Jesse--FCP
Round One: The Baron is eager to dispatch Jesse and thrusts... Taking no risk into consideration, the Challenger opts for defense, the fact that he has any fingers left after fancy circ parry'n with his fists against Huma's formidable longsword...well... there's luck for you.
1-0 Jesse
Huma--FLP--Jesse--FDK
Round Two: The swordless one resumes his advances and the Baron moves to defend each of these weaponless assaults. But just as Huma Fancy lat parrys, Jesses skirts down in a duck that earns the point. (fdk)
2-0 Jesse
Huma--SH--Jesse--FCP
Round Three: Circling each other warily, each bears the look of attack...
...The Baron stophits, but Jesses's move..mistaken for a thrust turns out to be a
fancy circ parry instead. Neither score.
2-0 Jesse
Huma--HC--Jesse--TH
Round Four: The next strikes come fast, the flash of steel and the flailing of fists...
..somehow the Baron's cut curved too high, leaving his middrift exposed to
Jesse's punching-thrust.
3-0 Jesse
Huma--FDK--Jesse--FCP
Round Five: Again the challenger moves into defense, his fancy circ parry could stop the longsword the first time......but can it the second?
...no matter, for now the Baron has simply employed a fanciful Duck under the swinging
fists to secure a point.
3-1 Jesse
Huma--LC--Jesse--HC
Round Six: The challenger finally tastes the sting of cold steel as the Baron Lowcuts,
...another point for the Baron, but yet Jesse's high-swung fist strikes up to hit also.
4-2 Jesse
Huma--FCP--Jesse--SS
Round Seven: Inching ever closer to a Baron's title, Jesse nonchalantly sidesteps the Baron's misplaced fancy circle parry, gaining the advantage position.
4.5-2 Jesse.
Huma--SH--Jesse--DIS
Round Eight: Perhaps the challenger enjoyed the view from the side of the ring,...
..or perhaps he thought the Baron would fall for disengage.
Huma simply lowers to stophit position to await Jesse's renewed interest in the match.
4.5-2 Jesse
Huma--xx--Jesse--SS
Round Nine: We watch patiently as the two prolong the battle. Jesse takes another step to the side while the Baron fancily disengages, making the most of his options going into the next round.
Huma--FSS--Jesse--CP
Round Ten: Making good use of his fists.., Jesse twists out a circle parry...
...the Baron's effort to fancy sidestep his opponent's movements will grant him the
point this round.
4.5-3 Jesse.
Huma--SH--Jesse--SS
Round Eleven: Taking no chances, either of them...
...the Baron is determined to stophit any thrusting fists that might fly at him.
Meanwhile, Jesse is sidestepping, likely hope'n to avoid the same. Neither score.
4.5-3 Jesse
Huma--xx--Jesse--HC
Round Twelve: Another flashing of steel and fists, both circle for a time and then dash together with matched highcuts...though neither will score, I'd have to guess there
would be pain for the unarmed man.

Round Thirteen: The duel comes to it's end and the grueling battle finds the Baron cutting low against Jesse's waiting circle parry.
5.5-3 Jesse
JesseTroyn def. HumaDragbn, 5.5-3 in 13 rounds.
Let it be also noted that upon taking up the ring and the Baron's title, Jesse Troyn did fling the 4th ring through the air and into my hands. Thus the 4th Baron position is left vacated.

Dat wasn't a bery nice ting you did.. You my team mate on dah Short Swords and I'm dis'pointed in what you did. What you done is show lack of 'spect for everyone from all us lil kids up to dah Overlord and you should be 'shamed! I duels cause it's fun and I wants to be a 'spected person. How can I learn dat when dis is dah 'xample set for me? Kids learn from what dey see and if getting dat ring and throwin' it out makin' fun at dah rest of dah
people dat had it and wore it wit' pride is what we sposta learn den maybe we needs better teachers.
Slainie's poppa is a baron and him would never just t'row his ring away cause him respects what he believes it stands for.. It's hard to tell what part of Jesse's attitude to be more disgusted at - his rudely phrased challenge, or his spurning of the ring (not that he would have kept it that long anyway - Remember Evan's failed challenge to Dalamar and the aftermath?). Although I can think of a few ways to judge Jesse favorably, it's still a generally negative incident.

Cher Madams et Monsieurs,
My name is Aislain Dulce Uziel and I am 7 years old and I have snails and a brother and am a Pirate. But not a real one like Madam Ellisa, she has TWO wooden legs but not the sharp pointy teeth. When I grow-up I am going to have a wooden leg too.
Jesse is my team mate on Short Swords and he is always been very very nice. He protects us, like the time Monsieur Talandor wanted to spank me because I pinched him to see if grown-ups have feelings like children. Jesse said that spanking children is VERY VERY BAD, I agree! Jesse is a Pirate like us and sometimes Pirates are hard to understand.
Jesse is honest too, he never tells lies unless he has to. He is the most honest Baron in the widest world, because he said he did not want to be a Baron because he knows he is not a Baron. I think it would be very naughty for him to pretend to be a Baron, when he is not one. I guess he could have kept the ring and pretended. But I think that would be worse. "It is very rude to pretend to be something you are not." That's what Ellen, our
housekeeper says.
When Monsieur Kalamere challenged papa, MY papa is Baron Adonai Uziel and *he* is the BEST Baron in the whole world, I was very mad. I was rude to Monsieur and papa was very strict. He said "Ais you must not be rude, there are more important things than rings and Barons."
Monsieur Kalamere told me this was true, that the rings were much like being "King of the Mountain" compared to honor. That is why my favorite dragon, the one Madam Onyx made for me, is named Kalamere and he always gets to wear the pink bow with sparkles.
Maybe Jesse should not have challenged. I do not know about that because I am 7 and I have lots of things to think about: French lessons, if Ellen will let me eat desert first, why Birthdays take so long to come, and if I might never come down if I swing too high. I liked Monsieur Dragonbane, he had nice teeth and always remembered to swing you in circles when he hugged you and papa and marme liked Monsieur Dragonbane too. Jesse thought Monsieur
Dragonbn was not a good Baron, so he challenged him. I think that is why most people challenge, unless your Monsieur Kalamere - because Papa is the bestest Baron so if someone thought that they would be very very very very wrong.
Jesse told the truth and said he did not want the ring, I am proud that Jesse told the truth, when everyone was yelling at him, because that is the hardest time to tell the truth. I know, because when I accidentally used Marme's (MY Marme is Morte Dulce and she NEVER lies) face paint on our pig Laird, she yelled and it was hard not to lie. So I told her Aggy did it, and Marme laughed and said I was silly and I needed to learn to tell the truth
and made me stay indoors for THREE days for Lying, and said I would not have gotten grounded at all if I had just told the truth and cleaned the kohl liner from Laird's face.
That is all I have time to write, because its time to go eat dinner and if I am late Ellen will say, "Heaven help us Aislain, you will be late for your own funeral" which is silly because why would I want to go to my own funeral?

The baronial rings are more than a piece of metal for winning a duel. They are a piece of history that are a trust to each person that holds them. They are in a way a piece of each of us that aspires to not simply duel well, but uphold the underlying beliefs of DoS. Honor and good sportsmanship being two of the most important.

If nae, I encourage ya ta follow Jesse's example if ya happen ta win one.

First of all,
I -Never- said I wanted to spank Aislain for pinching me, I just kinda raised my voice cause it hurt. Kids, ya know?
Second,
Lainy has a nice point, as do Summer, But.. Jesse had no right challenging for that Ring if he didn't have an intention to hold on to it. If he didn't feel he deserved to Challenge a Baron, and Didn't feel that he deserved to Be a Baron, then there was no point to actually challenge.
What Jesse ended up doing was -Wasting- Huma's, Luth's, Mine, And -Everyone- who went to watch that match's Time. Was it a good match, yeah, I suppose so.

Yes.
Jesse is nothing but a brash, ignorant, pathetic, useless waste of space, time, and energy.
The very fact that he hangs around children 10+ years younger than him frightens me to the core of my soul because I don't want to see 5-6 more little "Jesse's" running around, acting like he does. Because -All- children learn by example and by being taught by their elders.
Sure, he knew he didn't deserve it, so he gave it up. If he didn't, he would have lost to someone who did deserve it, In my eyes, it was an act of cowardice.
I've dealt with Jesse on numerous occasions and find him to be a scared little boy hiding behind that Ignorant facade that he uses.
I agree with Luthien.
Jesse needs a spanking.
Say what you want about me, I don't deal with flames against me.

First of all,
I -Never- said I wanted to spank Aislain for pinching me, I just kinda raised my voice cause it hurt. Kids, ya know?
Second,
Lainy has a nice point, as do Summer, But.. Jesse had no right challenging for that Ring if he didn't have an intention to hold on to it. If he didn't feel he deserved to Challenge a Baron, and Didn't feel that he deserved to Be a Baron, then there was no point to actually challenge.

Let me put this as plainly as I can.
If you think you are not worthy of a ring, do not challenge for it, no matter your reasons. I have been told oftimes that I would be worthy to hold a ring, yet I myself am not so sure. I find that I certainly am not more worthy than, say, Luthien, or Adeena, or Ajay... so I do not challenge them. I sit, and I wait quite peacably. I am more than satisfied with who and what I am... and, should by some chance of luck, I should win a ring in
the upcoming Tourney, perhaps that shall show to me that I am worthy to bear it. And if not, then I shall not be overly disappointed.
There has been only one time I was disappointed in such a manner, and I know that to be my own fault, not the fault of a duel, or any other circumstance.
Having said my piece, I close my statements.

I must disagree with yer notion dat Jesse had no right ta challenge. I do not much like his choice of action after winnin', but in our sport when ya dislike a baron ya have verra few options. Challengin' is da one way ta bring about change in our upper ranks. Sure Jesse could flame him but it would accomplish even less. Our sport is based on da rings, and what transpires within 'em. Tradition is formed from how our Barons act both in and out
of da rings. Jesse will not be a part of our traditions because he made da choice ta give up his rank. Perhaps he was not ready fer responsibility, perhaps he doesn't care much about anythin' ta do with ranks. It was verra clear from his initial challenge dat he sought change, he sought ta remove Baron Dragonbane, and he had every right ta do so.
