Duelers of DoS,

As many know there is a Warlord's Tourney coming in which a vacant and four new Baron rings are availible for prizes. Perhaps, besides the orginal nine Baron's Warlord Tourney, this is the biggest oppurtunity to achieve a prize and be apart of a new era of DoS.

This Tourney signifies a new era for the DoS in that it's obvious that the sport has grown and expanded beyond it's orginal creation bounds. Not only the new Baronial seats on the Council, but as well the concept of a "Nuetral" Baron, shall evidently change the politics of the sport slightly. I hope those Warlords, especially all the old timers that seemed to spring out of the woodwork over the last couple of weeks, take the time to
reflect on the past of this sport. This Tourney is a chance for a new begining to start a fresh the history of 4 more probably permenant titles of the sport. For newer Warlords, this is even more exciting to become part of the foundation of a new era of the sport.

Many have complained about the politics of the sport, including myself, but the trueth is that it seems the politics make the sport more so then the dueling does at times. The Duels still decide the outcome of the politics, but it is the politics that inspire many of the duels, most importantly the challenge matches. So after this Tourney is over, and thier are 4 new Barons, and one filled, reflect on how you want to be remembered at
this time of transition in this new era before you jump for glory. It would warm my heart, and I am sure a few others, if more respect, more tact, and more thought was put into the actions of the higher ranked and title holders of the sport.

As usual with the summer cycle, the Standings of the DoS, will expand rapidly, and as such more positive examples should be set for how duelers should act and conduct themselves in and out of the ring. More importantly in the ring and events surrounding the duels one involves themselves. I am not saying forget the past, or bury the hatchet just for the sake of peace. What I am saying that the things that go on could still go on so long
as people were more respectful, more tactful, and yes, perhaps more mature about how they handle thier conflicts with the other competitors of the duels.

All I ask is that those who wish to become apart of this Tourney that will signify the start of a new era in DoS, reflect on what they desire of the sport and their fellow duelers and how they could set a positive example for all other duelers of all ranks. I know I shall do my best in the Tourney and with whatever comes afterwards whether I win a prize or not.

As always, duel with skill and honor for thyself and thy counterparts.

Another little bit of thought about some recent observations,

Respect!

If you don't always respect the individual dueler, at least respect that which they have achieved, especially when you have achieved less or nothing by the standards of the rings, which is rank and titles, with proven defenses of what as been achieved and longevity at higher rank or title in addition. Beyond that being at least a dueler not of rank or title but of commitment to the dueling community.

Any dueler who walks in and starts shooting thier mouth off about how higher ranked and titled duelers of this sport are worthless, cheat, and have no skill is going to face the wrath of many justly so. I suggest as a more positive course of action to prove one's worth that you first prove thyself with the blade and not the mouth. And those who would rather prove thier worth with thier mouth rather then thier blade can just get on thier
knees in front of me and start proving.

In any event respect will not be offered generally by older experienced higher ranked and titled duelers to younger inexperienced lower ranked duelers, especially ones with attitude and a loud obnoxious insulting mouth, until a hint of what so many others have put into this dueling community is evident from them.

Honor to thyself,

Baphelocutis est Lathadoscia

I'm pretty sure that at least 20 people have posted that in the past month, but it bears repeating. Well said, Baphelocutis

And now my two pfennigs worth.

I show respect to those who show me respect... whether they be young or old, experienced or no. Should some great dueler of legend come forth and show me insult... then no matter how long they have been a dueler, no matter their accomplishments in the past... they shall find little respect from me.
I duel with honor and respect for this sport and this community, and I expect the same... Should someone not hold these qualities, no matter who they are, they do not deserve respect shown to them.
A simple fact.

::approaches the boards with a certain sense of foreboading about what he is about to "propose", Lupus attains a pen hidden behind his ear and begins to scribe a long essay::

Lords and Ladies of Rhydian,

There comes a time, a time in every land, in every society, in every person's heart, when it is certain that there is need for change. Presently, we enter such a time. In every political system, there are points and flaws that seem to balance each other out. However, in some systems, the flaws out number the checks and in other systems, the checks out number the flaws. This type of government which Rhydian has succumbed to is one of the
previous. Only in an Overlordship, a monarchy, a dictatorship or an Empire does so much tyrrany rule. Furthermore, an overlordship where the regent is not chosen by blood or by wealth; by fame or reputation, but rather by his skill in the rings, far from just. Why, the faith of the king(s) wavers and falls with each turn of the cycle.
And I, this mediator, do humbly suggest this: for a new beginning, in most things, a destruction is necessary. In this case, for example, a destruction of governmnet. Ponder this word in its true meaning:
Anarchy- Absence of government; disbelief in and disregard of invasion and . authority based on governmental coercion; a condition of society regulated by . . . voluntary agreement instead of goverenment.
Out of such a state rises new government, like the Phoenix from his pyre with new life every five-hundred years, so Rhydian should rise. A society regulated by voluntary agreement instead of government...what could be more just? Anarchy, evolving eventually, into a republic. A form of government for the people and by the people. Here is this word in fullness:
Republic- A state in which the sovereignty resides in the people and the . . . . . administration is lodged in officers elected by and representing the people; a . representative democracy

To be swayed by one man. Why? How could one man, an overlord dictate the people. (( " ))I know he would not be a wolf, but he sees that we are but sheep: He were no lion, were not we the hinds. Those that with haste will make might fire begin it with weak straws: what trash is Rhydian, what rubbish, and what offal, when it serves for the base matter to illuminate so vile a thing as an overlord!(( " )) Shall we let one man rule? (( " ))I
know whereI will wear this dagger then; Cassius from bondage will deliver Cassius: Therein ye gods, you tyrants do defeat: Nor stony tower, nor walls of beaten brass, nor airless dungeon, nor strong links of iron, can be retentive to the strength of spirit; but life, being weary of these worldly bars, never lacks power to dismiss itself. If I know this, know all the world besides, that part of tyranny that I do bear, I can shake off at
pleasure.(("))

::flustered, he cuts it short::

Therefore, let us, citizens of Rhydian, form a republic. A republic where officers are elected regularly to represent the will of the people. A republic where everyone has a voice. You do want a voice don't you?

Revolution- A change or movement that involves the overthrow or repudiation of an . existing government or political system and the establishment of a new government.

Freedom- The state or condition of being free; liberty; independence; immunity; . exemption; as our freedom is secured by liberal laws.

::at the bottom is signed a pen name, a psuedonym if you will ((hint hint: You dont know who he really is!))::

FREEDOM

((all items in "-" are exerpts from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar))
