Greetings and Salutations.
I will keep this letter short and make my purpose clear. You, perhaps more than anyone, remember well the circumstances surrounding my ring, for the short time I owned one, and how it was lost-- due to circumstances beyond my control, around the time of your challenge.
Know that I bear no ill will towards you. However, I do feel my ring was taken unjustly from me. Thus, I would like to reclaim one. Since you are the person who is chiefly responsible for costing me my ring in the first place, I feel that I owe it to you to remove yours from your possession.
Thus, on this twenty-seventh day of May, 1998, I announce that I am challenging you, Daegarth Mithmellon, for the right to hold the fourth Baron's Ring.
As proof that I have indeed earned this right, I give to you, and to others whom it may concern, a list of twelve peer wins (two extra, in case I have made errors in recording them) which show that I am worthy to make a challenge.

As far as I can tell the ink hasn't even been set to the DoS Standings for this week yet. So according to my understanding, Daegarth is not offically a holder of the 4th Baron's ring yet. So I believe your challenged is invalid, Zen.
To the Baron's Council,
I believe with the new rules, that now someone can be penalized and punished for such ignorance of the ways of the rings. I implore you to do just that to Zen to make an example of him. Nothing personal to Zen, I would ask this regardless of who was involved. It is time that respect for the titles of DoS was enforced, though it should be happily embraced.

My sincere thanks on the rules regarding challenges. I was a little confused. I was aware your peer wins had to be posted, but I didn't know that if someone attains rank after winning a challenge, it had to be written in the standings, as well.

Actually Var, that's not true. Once a person wins the ring they are a baron, period. Any one of the tourney winners could go out and duel a match as a baron even though it hasn't been posted in the standings. The second you win the ring you're a baron, there is no waiting time at all. I once challenged Kal for his barons ring when he was interceeding against my intercession (heheh) and if I had won that match I would have been a baron and had one
more fancy than the Overlord's challenger.
I guess ya' had ta' be there ta' understand that situation though.

You know, I wondered about that. I saw two overlords deposed in a week's time, before the standings were ever updated. I don't know if there was an exception to the rules that did not apply to my challenge, or what, but it happened, and it was a difference of which I was not aware.
Regardless, I have fixed the situation. Thanks, Iain, if you hadn't told me I probably would not have fixed it, and would have lost out.

Yes, your situation with Kalamere was a bit... different, but there is not, and never has been, anything in the rules preventing a dueler from issuing a challenge to someone who is interceding in a match.

The only cases I can recall in which an Overlord was deposed before the posting of the standings involved that Overlord gaining the title immediately prior to a Warlord Tourney, and opting to immediately face the mandatory challenge from the winner of that prize.
The rules specifically state, and always have, that no challenge may be issued to a Baron or the Overlord until the standings reflect their status, be it a new titleholder, or the completion of a previous challenge (Renegade Barons excepted).

Var, Overlord and Baron are the only ranks that are effective immediately. Every other rank gained has to wait till the postings. Aside from that, if you win a barons ring you're a baron right away, if you become over-weenie you're the weenie right away too.

I'm afraid that is incorrect Billy... though I won't say that it will or has always been enforced in the same manner. A large number of challenges have been invalidated for being issued before the new Baron was listed as such in the standings.
There is no exception in the rules that makes the titled ranks any different in the case at hand. There are far fewer historical occurences of the title being effective immediately then there are of those where it has not (the only two I can think of are the one Iain just mentioned and when Athlstan was allowed to interceed for a loyal Baron although he had not yet been listed as Overlord in the standings). Judging by that, and the way it appears

As I have always understood it, rank and privilege passed with da ring. When a challenger was successful in dethronin' a baron and was given da ring he was immediately considered a baron, with both privileges and responsibilities of one. Now perhaps Helix has reinterpreted da tradition of passin' of rank, and da rules will be fixed accordingly. I have dueled da verra night after claminin' a baron's ring with 5 fancies in me arsenal, and
restricted ta one more dan me opponent. Both Helix, and da callers were aware of me situation, and agreed I was a baron. Perhaps times, and da rules have changed.

This came about when I first became baron..at that time I was told by the FFGF Coord that when I had won the title I was entitled to the fancy use of that rank I had achieved.
