Seraph's Journal
Silverlake Cottage, Sunrise

I often like this time best, when the nexus of light and dark colors the horizon. I have watched the sunrise in many places, but I find the multi-verse sunrise the most breathtaking of all.

I sit at my desk and gaze out at the eastern sky, my thoughts on Nimmy, his low breaths a calm whisper coming from the bed as he sleeps soundly. There is a soft blue that dots the pastels of yellow and pink and orange as the fingers of the sun touch the midnight sky in a perfunctory caress that is never fickle.

Blue.

I can't help but wonder about this blue stone that Baron Bird has given me. It feels almost alive, so warm a pulse that seems to radiate from its smooth surface. And even more curious is the Baron's request that I take the saturday night shift as his Queue Keeper in the Arena.

Blue.

As the morning sky lights up in the loveliest shade of pale blue, I find myself again thinking of Nimmy and the blue crystal around his neck. A blue stone and a blue crystal. I need to ask Ajay about the stone. Such fragmented thoughts. I'm thinking I should go for a walk.

There isn't a cloud in the sky. Such a glorious day.

Their lives were going along smoothly, or so she thought. But then, all at once her world came crashing down around her. AJ started working longer hours. He was hardly around anymore, and when he was around he was distracted...like he was thinking about something.
Little did she know, he wasn't thinking about something, but someone. Cygnet, to be exact. He thought Sher wouldn't notice. Well he thought wrong....she noticed.
One night, while they were in the Arena, she noticed that AJ was more distracted than ever before. She looked around and noticed that he was watching Cygnet, his queue-keeper at work on Saturday nights. Sher remembered that Cygnet had requested a schedule change from Friday night to Saturday nights. She thought nothing of it that AJ gave Cygnet a gemstone. At the time, Sher wasn't close enough to Cygnet and AJ to see what kind of stone it was,
she just thought it was a token of his thanks for her being his queue- keeper.
AJ was starting to act more distant than ever, and she was very hurt by this. Because she had been there for him, through all the good times, as well as the tough times, ever since they met and fell in love. She was there when he found his sister, Aja. She was there when they saw all their friends having children and she started talking of having one of their own....and being told that would never happen, because the curse on him left him
sterile. She was there when he was told that his father had passed away. All the time she was steadfast by his side. There for him.
But as she soon found out it wasn't enough. Sher was in the Arena one Saturday night alone, looking for AJ, when all of a sudden he popped his head in and looked around...then just left without a word. Being a little put out with him for leaving her there alone, she decided to follow him. She knew it wasn't the smartest thing to do, but under the circumstances she did it anyway. She just had to find out what was wrong.
She followed him to a little one room cottage in the woods. She was either very brave or very stupid. She knocked on the door, not knowing for sure who's house she was at. Cygnet answered the door, and Sher was floored for a second, but composed herself and acted like she was expecting it to be Cygnet's cottage. Cygnet was all smiles as she let Sher in. AJ, on the other hand went white...he was stammering and demanding to know what she was
doing there. She looked him in the eye and told him that she had seen him in the Arena and followed him to this place.
He got all indignant and started telling Cygnet and Gnim that she didn't trust him anymore, and had never really trusted him, that she just didn't understand. Sher asked him just what was it that she didn't understand.
AJ ignored that question, and told her that he had come to talk to Cygnet and Gnim about something personal. Cygnet told Sher that she thought it was about the gemstone he had given her. Sher then asked AJ if it had something to do with his feelings for Cygnet, and if he was going to try to act on them in Gnim and her presence. AJ never answered that question either, he was getting very good at evading her questions. He, instead, told them that he
had come to talk about a stone. She wanted to know which stone they were talking about. The stone that Cygnet described was the SoulStone, just like the one that he had given her when they fell in love, the one that she couldn't find. She then knew that he had taken it. Her SoulStone.....the one thing that AJ had made for her. It hurt her very deeply.
AJ tried to say that Cygnet didn't know what it was, so it didn't have that meaning to her.....but she knew that he knew what it was, even if Cygnet didn't. Which hurt her even more, to know. She was very upset and the tears started coming, even though she tried not to cry. She didn't want him to see how upset it made her to find out that he had taken HER SoulStone, without her knowledge, and gave it to someone else. She wiped the tears away
angrily, listening to him try to give them an explanation.

::sits by Lake RhyDin......tossing pebbles into the still glassy surface of blue-green water.......thinking of the events of recent past::

The work was tremendous, the pressures great.........the hours were long and usually spent away from home. I was finding it difficult to balance everything in m' life. But still, how could I have let it all overcome me the way it did?
It started innocently enough.......I would head to the Arena locker room.......check the RDI board.......seeing if any would need a replacement that night.......I was hiding. Yes, hiding from my situation at home with Sher, or so it seemed in retrospect. Sher, she being the perfect wife, always yielding to my wishes, conforming to my standards, bending when I wouldn't budge. Her heart was always in the right place, even while mine became
misdirected.
I still remember that day.......when I first laid eyes upon the Angelic Que-keeper of DoS. Cygnet Seraphin.......the words sounding like a peaceful purrr. From the start, she treated me with kindness and respect......as if she had known me all m' life....... She was always quick with a smile and a kind word, saying and doing the nicest things.....being a friend. We began to run into each more and more on the weekends......either while I
was dueling or whilst preparing to work the Arena. The long hours at the arena had put me in constant contact with her. A bond began to form, one that led to her changing her shift to work with RDI Poison and m'self.
I was elated! No more would I have to open the Saturday shift without a Que-keeper. No longer would I have to explain to the patrons that they were the umpteenth person in que while struggling to keep track of who was hacking and thrusting who in the rings. No longer would I have to *Look* for a reason to be near Cygnet. What was it about her? What drew me out to her? Why now? What about Sher? Lots of questions.......difficult answers if
there are any.

I remember the Saturday morning when Sher went to the river, the one that runs behind our house. She had removed her clothing....piled it by the large Oak tree.....and then proceded to wade into the waters for a swim. I don't know what had overcome me to do what I did, but I quietly and purposely emerged from the woods, bending down, picking up the necklaced soulstone and then turning away without a second thought. Such a mistake I
made.......::a tear slowly runs down m' cheek as I think back to that morning::
