And now no more ado, brave B(illy),
But gather we our forces out of hand,
And set upon our boasting enemy."

She entered the Hall of Heroes quietly. A quick glance around she made her way past the various display cases to the far corner. She had been angered when she had learned the item had been purloined from where it had been hung on the ancient corkboard. Then, one evening, as she had stood at the bar, he that had taken the gloves made his way to her, giving them over for safekeeping. She had ascertained that they were indeed Billy's
sap gloves. The leather yet marred by dark stains where glove had connected with flesh, the oversized gloves could fit none but Billy's fists.
Now where to put them so that Billy would be sure to find them when he returned. She had made him a promise, something she never did lightly. "Ah, there", her gaze settled on a table not far from one displaying a replica of Bishop's crys knife. She eased the gloves gingerly from her magical pouch, laying them carefully on the table. She pondered a moment, considering whether to place a magical warding around them. She couldn't help a bit
of a wry smile as she thought of the many Billy Ray wannabe's that seemed to wander in and out of the basement. She had teased Jesse Troyan more than a few times about his choice of fist against blade.
She quirked a smile, thinking, "Billy Ray Karnafexx, the Bad Man of the Duels." She had been there the first night he had kicked in the door. Most had seen that arrogant swagger of his, his cocksure attitude. Most had not looked beyond that. There was much more to Billy than just that mouth of his and these oversized gloves. There was magic in Billy, honor, courage, heart, soul, truth and a certain gentleness about him that she and a few
others had seen over the years. Putting it mildly, Billy disliked politics. He'd been heard to say more than once, "Honor doesn't pay the rent so it ain't worth squat. If you're gonna go for the top slot, you gotta do whatever it takes to stay there.....and that's the bottom line." She murmured an arcane phrase, pulling a bottle of Yukon from thin air. She placed that next to the gloves, tucking the lacings underneath the bottle. She folded a
small note tucking it under the gloves.
Billy,
I promised ye I'd be here when ye returned. I shall keep me promise.
Jona.
She stepped back a pace, turning to see Edmond as he went about dusting the cases. "Och, so th' be where ye been keepin' yuirself." He tugged his forelock, sketching a quick bow, "M'lady." She chortled softly, "Jus' see th' nae dus' collects 'pon th' bottle 'o Yukon, else Billy wilst hae thee awearin' it." Edmond scowled mightily as she gave him a jaunty wave, then vanished from the Hall in a soft azure shimmer.
Edmond stalked to the table, muttering under his breath. "Blowhard Billy!", swipe of the cloth at the bottle, "Simply the Best, my Aunt Bertha!", another swipe of the cloth at the gloves, "Loud mouth braggart!!", swipe at the table. Edmond shot a look over his shoulder every now and then. The last thing he wanted was hear that door boom open and see Billy giving him that lopsided grin. Edmond had seen that grin often enough to know that it was
usually the last thing seen before Billy's fist landed a knockout punch.

During the kender's wanderings about RhyDin, she happened to find her way into a great hall. The hall appeared to be filled with artifacts of all sorts. Banners, swords, shields all things that would be saved of heroes. Kira's little eyes sparkled brightly as they scanned the large room.
A small giggle escaped her lips as her eyes fell upon a very large pair of gloves. She reached the table with amazing speed. The gloves had her complete attention. So large incomparision to her wee hands. With great excitement she lifts one of the gloves to find that it is rather heavy. Kira giggles madly as she discovers that both of her tiny hands fit into one glove.
She picks up the second glove and scurries out of the hall, giggling as she goes. Off to find her friend Tormay. He is sure to love her newest find.

It was cool in the bowels of the Red Dragon Inn, and the slim woman sitting idly in a chair tilted back on two legs appreciated the relief it brought from the blazing winter sun above. A yawn contorted her dirty face as she tossed spit wads at one of the banners mounted high on the wall. As one of them flew past a slash of color and landed on the gray wall behind, she made a face and muttered, "This gonna be ta
worst sorta day."
"Uh uh." Nemo's adolescent grunt cracked through her heavy boredom.
She pushed her sleep mussed braid behind her shoulder as she looked sideways at the group of serving lads gathered around one of the far tables. They were bent in concentration, their voices low and urgent. Her interest piqued, she let her chair drift to all fours and then slowly sauntered over to the table.
"She's really angry." Hubie whispered almost smugly as his twin Aloysius nodded in agreement. Edmond's shadow of a beard gave a haunted look to his usually dapper appearance. He sat in a chair across from the others, his large hands nervously tugging at his rumpled waistcoat.
"Who be mad?" Summer interjected. Five pairs of eyes turned to Summer as Marcus piped up, "Jona." As Al and Hubie gleefully chorused, "And Thaddeus is ready to kill Eddie boy! He was so mad, he won't even speak!"
"Oh, an' why be tha'?" Uninvited, Summer kicked out a chair and sat down. The Arena fell silent as the boys stared at her, even Al and Hubie too scared to speak. With a shrug, she slid her dagger from her hip belt and began to clean her fingernails. She was good at waiting games, better than the boys she suspected. The stalemate ended, "I...I" Edmond swallowed, "I let Kira take Billy Ray's gloves. The ones m'lady Jona put on a table in the
Hall."
Summer concentrated on working out a bit of guck from under her thumb nail, the point of her blade flashing in the torch light. "Who be ta Kira?" She finally asked. Edmond again swallowed and she could see his Adam's apple bob.
"She is about this tall," Edmond held out his hand a little over four feet off the floor, "Copper head pulled up into a top knot, small pointy ears. She's been seen in the basement sometimes, but I have not seen her since she stole Billy's gloves."
"The witch is either a hamster with a bad hair day," Rufus came up and gently lay a wet cloth against the back of Edmond's neck as he spoke, "or she is a kender." Edmond moved as if to shove off the boy's touch, but then stopped. His usual formal reserve now shattered by the events, he allowed Rufus to comfort him. Edmond even looked like he was about to cry, his big face puffing with unshed tears.
Summer sighed, the boys were a mess. "Well, just go run ta wee one down and take them back. A kender, less it be Tass, nae be much o' a threat ta anyone but a carrot."
The twins spoke together, their voices blending into an odd echo, "We have been trying, but she never comes here and we don't know where she lives, and ..." Marcus broke the chorus by shoving a small pile of coins to the middle of the table, "We decided to put up a reward." He stated simply.
Summer eyed the pile of coins. With the ease of experience she put the amount to total about twenty gold, four silver. It must be their combined tips for the month. She dropped the point of her dagger into the middle of the table and spoke, "Well tha' do look like a fair amount luvs. I suppose I could take it an' do ya job, but..." she paused, then continued, "me thinks ya get ta gloves back quicker if ya just post it as a reward. In fact,
luvs, methinks me Jeff could see clear ta make it forty gold if ya get ta gloves, twenty if she be brought back alive without ta gloves, and ten if she be brought back dead without ta gloves. If she dead she nae be able ta tell us wha' she did wi' ta gloves."
"Dead?" Nemo blurted through his thick lips. His watery blue eyes looked stunned. He wiped a bit of snot dripping from the end of his nose on his hand. With a chortle Summer winked, "Sometime these things do happen."
Edmond spoke firmly, before the others could protest, "M'lady Summer, we are most grateful. I will draw the reward poster and Aloysius and Hubie can put it up throughout RhyDin." Al and Hubie looked each other, the thought of the rare treat of traipsing unsupervised around town making them forget even the tragedy of Billy's missing gloves.
The dagger came out of the wood with a soft thwap and Summer dragged the pile of coins toward her, "Now tha' be more like it Edmond, seize ta day."
Her business completed Summer marched up the stairs, hiding a sly smile until she was in the throng of the Red Dragon Inn. With a smirk, she ordered some breakfast; after all, kenders do have a way of disappearing, and who knows if anyone would ever collect. Not a bad deal to be holding on to a wee bit of gold.
