This was supposed to be one of the greatest times of his life. He'd reached his goal, the title of Baron. After only a cycle of professional dueling, he'd done it... but why did he feel so down? Why didn't it bring any comfort? Relieve some of the pain he felt inside? What was wrong? Was it this whole Guardian thing? Or perhaps his recent ventures with a few women... or was it more? Was it his soul? Or the Salsinger
for that matter?
The mercenary sighed as he peered down at the 12th Baron ring, fitting closely around his finger, much like a wedding band. His bright green eyes focused souly on the ring, as if demanding answers. He didn't have time to be depressed.... his new duties as a father and Baron simply reminded him of it.
Doing what he always does when his mood is low, Roland set off for the arena... drinking and dueling awaited him. Happiness will never find me, he thought, a hopeless goal set all to many years ago....
The Baron stepped up the arena's entrace, letting out a light sigh. He muttered, "time to put on an act", with that he forced his features to brighten. His eyes carrying a false sense of happiness and hope, his posture slackened and became more self-confident. He set his mind on what was to come, pushing open the doors to the arena and smiling to all he knew(and didn't for that matter).

There it was again, the vast emptiness that filled him each time he left the arena. The cold, lonely feeling he got each time he exited the doors. He got little respect within the arena, and even smaller amount when outside. Which placed a heavy burden apon him, the thoughts eating away at his self-confidence.
He was now pulling four jobs, just to support his daughter and pay off a costly debt. The contract with the Gryphons had been a small one, forcing him to look else where for the extra money. He found a reporting spot within the Duely Noted, as well as a part time job around Rynal's Repair, a small weapons's repair shop in the heart of Rhydin. On top of all that he had his new responsibilities as a Baron.
The elven duelist walked on, his destination unkown as he started off, away from the dueling house. His thoughts drifted as he dreamed about settling down one day, owning a farm or something, away from all those who resented him and laughed. The mercenary chuckled at the thought of living on a farm as he glanced up to the mighty water clock, peering at the time of day.
"Damn...", he cursed "I'm going to be late." Realizing it was mere minutes away from his meeting with the Duely Noted staff, he raced off, knowing he must make a good impression. Trying to appears as casual as possible as he hurried down the street, silently cursing his dead horse's rotting bones.
