"As you see, there are four top conditioned rooms. You may whichever suits your liking."
"Thank you Miss. I'm quite obliged to work for you." Valerye's Irish accent wasn't as strong as it "should be" simply because she spoke very nice English.
"Please, call me Lily," the fairy told her. Then she turned and headed up the stairs.
Valerye sighed slightly moving in the room on her right. It was simple, but very nice. There was a window that looked out to the garden which was decorated by simple floral drapes. A twin sized bed was up against the north wall covered by a pastel floral quilt. Along the walls were paintings and a few flower pots hung from the cieling. It was quite a cozy room.
"I think..." the woman said, "I think I have found the right companion."
The right companion?

Lily patted down a yawn.
"Miss?"
"Yes, Valerye?"
"When's the cafe to open?"
"I 'avena a clue, perhaps in a few weeks."
"Are you planning on hiring any other staff?" the woman tasted the soup that she had been stirring.
"Perhaps."
Valerye served them a wonderful dinner of gespacho soup, french bread smothered with a pesto and chevre (a type of goat's cheese) and brussel sprouts. It was marvelous.
After dinner they played a round or two of gin over coffee.
"Where's your husband at, Lily?"
"Husband?"
"Yes, Mr. Lesprit?"
"No such a person."
Valerye raised her bushy brows at the fairy. Lily shrugged at her and dealt the cards.

Lily grinned at Valerye as they wandered through the shop looking for decorations. They found all sorts of things and then Lily spotted black and red pompoms. Valerye noticed a funny look on the fairy's face as she approached them.
"Valerye...look!"
"What Miss?"
"Those pompoms..perfect fer cheerleadin' m'team on!!"
The elder wrinkled her nose at Lily. The fairy ignored it and placed it into her basket.
When they left the store they had bought 30 pound and 10 shillings worth of items.
The two walked home talking. Then Val noticed a slight oddity about Lily; at every blond reasonably handsome looking man, Lily would check for something. The woman chortled at her for this.
"Something funny?"
"I see you are scoping for blonds."
The fairy shook her head.
"For someone in particular?"
Lily glanced up at Valerye, "What gave you that silly idea?"
Valerye shrugged with a smug look on her face.

Lily was stirring her cream and sugar into her tea when her employee asked her, "So, who is he?"
"Tha's none o' your concern," the fairy told her flatly.
"Come now, we mustn't hold any secrets from each other."
"That reminds me, I hired a man of the name Didier Valeon as our cook, to assist you."
Val nodded, "You are trying to change the conversation."
"You are not going to get an answer out of me, Vally."
The woman shrugged at Lily as she hung up a streamer, "When does the Cafe open again, darling?"
Lily snickered, "When the balloons and streamers fall down."

Lots can happen in a month, Lily found out the hard way.
Valerye quit, she was sick of Lily's attitude. When Valerye left, so did the other hired employees, or what was left of them.
With all the staff gone, Lily had given up hope on her plan to have a nice, settled, "normal" future.
That night that she concepted the fact that her Cafe idea was down the toilet, she was in tears. All night she lay on her bed weeping. She couldn't believe it. Every time something seemed on the right track, something went wrong. It was driving her insane.
The fairy had no choice but to put the building up for sale. It killed her everytime she had to pass that sign on the way up the steps. She had had a few investors look into the house, but she didn't want to sell just yet, and they wanted the building now. She wasn't ready, yet.
Tonight, as she walked up the stairs, tears streamed down her eyes for what seemed, to her, no apparent reason. Sure, Onyx had smacked her and it hurt, but otherwise, why would she be crying?
She walked down into Sadie's room, the tears blotching her sight significantly. The small, skinny figure sat down on the tiny bed, the sticks extending from her palms rans across the linen sheets. Tears dripped down her swollen and unswollen cheek, making little dots in the cloth.
Lily trudged back upstairs. Her blue eyes skipped around the main floor. This was paradise, why did she have to leave it so soon after finding it?
