Zen writes, "I think a large part of the grief caused over this challenge is due to a basic belief that seems to have been held by the majority of the DoS community for a long time: That any challenge has the added meaning of politics, honor, and/or revenge, whether or not it has been stated. I don't feel this is true, and apparently, Adonai does not either (either that or he's lying about it all, but
that's just the cynic in me. I believe him). I think
challenging for rank is a good thing"

BRAVO!!! About time someone said that. It would seem to me that any challenge made is now automatically suspected to eman the challenger has something against the challenged. Back before there were any Barons (and for the first few months there were) no one assumed these things. They assumed someone challenged the Overlord because he thought he could win or he wanted to try. Nothing beyond that. They assumed someone challenged for Baron because
he wanted to give it a try. Seems politics kicked in not too long after, eh? And not as an improvement either.

::giggles and reads her Papa is going to be Over Lord! Bounces up and down in excitement, reading merrily through all the other messages and listening to the grumping of grown-ups as they pass by her. Her eyes sparkle in delight when she hears Madam Cavish is going to bring hippos to the Challenge and she pounces Mathia's torn up missive, planning to make a jig saw puzzle out of it later. Then blows kisses to Santa and Madam Cyg as they
giggle. Her black eyes twinkling she decides to post for herself running around bugging Hubie for a piece of paper. Kneeling on a chair she leans over the table and carefully pens out in her best French::

Mon Chers:

Comment allez-vous? I am fine too. My name is Aislain and I am supposed to be picking flowers, because Marme said we needed some and Ellen said, "Go pick flowers Aislain, PLEASE go outside and pick some flowers!" Ellen always says Please and Thank you, but I say si-vous-plait and merci because when I grow-up I am going to speak French.

Papa is going to be the best Over Lord because he is the bestest Baron in the widest world. And I don't know why everyone is so worried about his alignment, I checked papa's back when he was giving me pony rides and its very straight! Honest! I do not know how straight Monsieur Dal's back is, because he has never given me pony rides, but he is a good Pirate because he helped me capture Madam Sid and make her his Pirate Slave. Papa has never
captured Madam Sid, so I do not know if papa would be a good Pirate.

Mon Cher Madam Solari,
the point spread will be 3, because papa has two blades and Over Lord Dal has one very big one that changes colors. So it will be three.

Mon Cher Monsieur Kalamere,
Papa's sword is not in Over Lord Dal's back, its on his hip like it *always* is! I remember that you told me that the DoS was kind of like playing King of the Hill and you agreed with papa that one should never be rude or sacrifice friendships, just because someone else sought a ring. I think some of the things you are writing are very very very mean. I am putting Dragon Kalamere in the corner for a whole day and taking away his pink bows. That
way no one can be mad at you because Ellen says that, "Once someone has been disciplined then it is rude to tease them about it, unless they are your mean stinky brother or maybe Garion or maybe someone who really deserves to be teased." Well maybe she doesn't say that exactly, but that is what I heard.

Mon Chere Laird Tynsdale,
Papa has never ever ever cast aspirations upon your intentions. He doesn't even know where you keep your intentions and he likes to keep his aspirations in the medicine chest next to the Tylenol where he can find them when he gets a headache because Aggy put girlie posters in his Box seat and is planning to sell it in front of the WHOLE DoS. Papa likes to swallow his aspirations with mead, not throw them at other peoples tensions.

Mon Cher Monsieur Kahlil,
Papa doesn't need to sit on Over Lord Dal's throne because he has his own. In fact we have TWELVE toilets at Valheru, really truely! I counted them all last time I got to stay there and did you know that you can lock the door and shut it in *all* of them and then no one can get in without breaking down the door? Its really true. ::stops writing long enough to rub her backside remembering what happened after they found out::

Mon Cher Monsieur Krollon,
Of course papa stepped over the line. Don't you? If you don't then you step on them and then you break your mama's back and make your papa sit on a tack. Which is rude.

Mon Chere Lady Tinuviel,
Grosses bises for wishing Papa Sweet Dreams! Papa has the bestest bed, I know because when you jump on it you can touch the ceiling, really trueliest! Ellen likes you because she says you are a true lady, and a true lady would never be rude unless she had too. That is why I am never rude, I always say "Your welcome." after Garion thanks me for making him a worm cookie sandwich.

When I grow up, I am going to be just like you, except my hair will be red instead of black and I will be a Pirate too.

Love,

Aislain

Mon Cher Monsieur Dueler,
Honor is really very very very heavy. But do not worry, Papa is the strongest man in the widest world, and he is bigger than Over Lard Dal, so he can carry even more than him. It is true, look next time when they are in the arena together,

Love,

<<My loyalties to Dal are essentially the same Var, my friendship to him is also, you think I've changed liking him because I've changed the loyalty of the ring? God your shallow.>>

Quoted less than 3 weeks before today in regard to a bored Baron.
Adonai my friend, I have read the words of this string of emotional replies to the challenge you have made to the Overlord. I have gone back though the string where I offered support should it be needed, and where you said that friendship supercedes political loyalties. I am very confused old friend, and I am pulled here as I have seen you spin like a top this past few months. You have sworn loyalties to Dalamar, you have then moved to another plane
as Renegade to satisfy your need for stimulation and now, in a complete reversal of direction you have challenged the very Overlord you swore loyalty to for the title of Overlord. Am I to understand that your loyalties have not changed because they never existed? And as far as the friendship that hasn't changed, was it never there either? I stand back and look at all the words spoken by you and it makes me ask myself what our friendship is worth. If
I were in the position of Dalamar, would your drive for stimulation make me a target as it has him? Please understand that I will not align myself with this challenge. As I told you such a short time ago, I would stand with you in any endeavor save a challenge to Dalamar I must now make certain the line is clear. I would that you recind this challenge and enjoy the position you now hold. I know this will not happen. I wish to say one thing before I
close and that is in regard to the statement you made concerning the 7th's ring. Your words were emblazed across the cork " It is my ring and I will play with it how I see fit" This is where you and I disagree. I feel the ring belongs to the DoS and that I am blessed with the priviledge to bear it. With that comes a responsibilty of great measure. We are who you are, and have the right to carry ourselves as we see fit but all that we do will be
looked upon by our successors, as to how a Baron should treat the title.
I am not here to condemn your actions friend Adonai, I am not here to force my beliefs on you either. I am merely trying to understand what loyalty and friendship are to you.
Humbly
Seamus

Shaun walks back to the big cork board. He reads through the posts and sees friends of the two experienced duelers take their sides on the issue. Seeing that some friends of both stand baffled. He tries to stay neutral in this, seeing that both sides have some points, and then again, some are overly exaggerated. He writes.

Good luck to you both in the duel. I hope you both will duel well and with skill, honor, and pride. May the winner honor his title greatly.

Zen,

Since you decided to quote me, get it right. I have known Adonai for a long time. The infamous White Duke does not know me AT ALL. That was my point. Not the fact that he judged me, but that he does so without knowing squat about me. If anyone who knows me wants to judge me, that's there prerogative. They, at least, have some sort of basis to make the determination whether it be wrong or right.

Now do you understand?

Clarifingly,

"Come back here, Tormay!"

Once again, the little fairy got free from Molleen's hold.

He strolled up to the DoS Boards and his grin filled with that little infamous dimple.

His little fingers ran over the posts there. Molleen approached and looked down at him.

"Aislain wote that and she is so pretty." His eyes twinkled to Molleen.

"I see, Tormay. So you 'ave your eyes on her, am I right?"

"She kewl." Then sweetly, "Can you get me a pirate's outfit?"

"Why would you want that for, Tormay?" asked Molleen.

Tormay pointed to one of the posts.

"cause she might put her eye on me if I come one."

Molleen shook her head and led him out.
