Dalamar, I wish thee to have the best of luck in your defense. Even though Adonai has explained his views, I still believe he has no right to do what he is doing, if I may say so myself.

::thinks over the old adage about why the man climbed the mountain in response to Tom's musings::
A comparison mayhaps, if you all will indulge me for a moment.
Challenging for the title of Overlord has been a thought of mine for many a moon, and I am well aware that my whirlwind actions have confused a few. In fact....it seems that the only people that truly understand it at all are the principles involved. Meaning Dalamar and I.
Try, if you might, to see this from my eyes. Dalamar is the greatest Overlord the sport has ever known, and most possibly will never be surpassed in his achievements here, and that in itself is not my reasoning for this challenge. I could have easily sat around and waited for some luck blessed blade to befall my friend and than have taken action. And I am sure that if I had taken that route, my challenge would have been far more well
received.
But attempt to look at it this way, would I truly be challenged by a blade that got lucky where others have failed? I think not. Would I be more of a man to challenge and defeat that which is weak....which others have done, or would I shine to challenge that which challenges my skills? Dalamar and I have always been a challenge for each other, I believe that he and I have more 5 - 4 duels than anyone I have ever fought.
So, other than the change of loyalty, and of mind. What is more dishonorable? To soar with the eagles? Or to dine upon the carrion like a vulture? You decide.

Greatest Overlord ever known?
No offense to current Overlord Dalamar, but length in title does not make the greatest. Granted Dal has been one of the better out of 28 Overlords, but perhaps not the best. Best of though is an opnion. I can think of many like, Xenograg, Siera, Feadur, Kalamere, Athlstan just to perhaps name a few. Just a thought.

Adonai,
Forgive me if I misinterpret this, but it seems to me that with this post, you are saying that anyone who challenged and defeated Dalamar would be weak and nothing more than lucky. You speak of this as if no one else in the rings can give you a challenge, so you decided to challenge the one man who can. For one thing, I have a difficult time to believe that there is not a soul in the entire Duel of Swords who could give you a challenge, were he or
she to rise to the rank of Overlord, besides Dalamar. After all, there are very many skilled, fine duelers in the Duel of Swords. Although Dalamar is an excellent dueler and a fine overlord, I hardly think that the others are "carrion" compared to him.
And, after all, what if you were to win? Would you then consider yourself only lucky and weak, as it seems-- by my interpretation of your writings-- you would consider anyone else who would defeat him? And then, if you would be only lucky and weak, why bother to challenge a man you hold in such high esteem, that you would only replace him with "a blade that got lucky" and "that which is weak"?
Again, these are my interpretations of your writings. If this is not the meaning you had in mind before you wrote them, please clarify them for me and others who may have the same interpretation as mine.
No offense intended.

No offense taken.
My meanings are metaphorical, and often misunderstood. Surely there are duelers here that give me challenge. But none are presently in a position for me to avail myself upon for a challenge. So thusly I make my own road to that which I wish, as I have always done.
Many are misunderstanding me here.....because they choose to take my analogies literally, and not see the thought behind them. For anyone to think I look down upon my peers and fellow duelers, while understandable if taken from my post in a severely black and white manner, is somewhat ridiculous, as I have always held respect for those that surpass me and those that do not. The only ones that have tasted my ire, or the weight of my
despite have been those that threw themselves into the jaws of the beast.
So do not mistake me, I have respect for those I hold title with, commoner to Overlord, I merely state my thoughts in a manner to try and have people see things from my perspective.
And aye, if I was to win over Dalamar, I could very well have been lucky, as I stated many of our matches have been 5 - 4 and it will take all the might of my arm, and wit of my mind to overcome him, as he is one of the most skillful duelists I have ever faced.
As to weak, I do not believe I even have to address that question.

::Delivered to the message board by a small air elemental, as the Grand Duchess was busy elsewhere at the time.::
Baron Uziel.
If you do not wish your words to be viewed in terms of black and white, then you should not use black and white terms.
I, myself, view most everything based upon extremes... My heritage permits little else. Yet, knowing this, I strive all the harder to avoid making sweeping statements as I know they can lead to trouble.
You have not blundered into your current troubles m'lord, you have leapt into them all too knowing.
Additionally, in point of fact... To be a duelist in the grand traditions of this sport is "to fly with the eagles." To fly in the face of promises, respect and friendship is "to dine upon the carrion like a vulture."

You know.
I'm done even trying to mollify any of you people anymore.
My friendship with Dalamar HAS NOT CHANGED.
If ANY friends have turned upon someone...it is my friends, turning upon me. Abandoning me when I have made a choice for myself. Have I complained? Have I whined and moaned and called names? NO. I made my decision and I will live with it, even if those that claimed to be my friends cannot.
Dalamar has not attacked me nor have I attacked him. And many of you seek to put blame and deceit and strife where there is none. And I find it disgusting. I have been candid and honest in my explanations. You do not have to accept them, but the next person that calls my honest explanations into question, is calling me a liar. And I WILL deal with you on that basis.
I changed my mind about challenging Dalamar, I became bored with being a Loyal Baron. I did not lie. And I would still, if called upon stand beside my friend and offer my blade in assitance to him if he needed it. I do not lie, I have merely changed my position, categorically, so I could, 1., Receive a que of challenges. 2. Spice up my reign a bit. I am allowed to make those decisions. And anyone that cares to know the truth should ASK ME
about it and not merely make it up out of whole cloth from their imagination.
I have explained my reasoning and intentions quite well. If they make no sense to you....go to hell. Otherwise....do me the respect of at least CONSIDERING that I might be telling the truth. You people were people I trusted and respected...what a surprise to find out your witch hunting, mob mental, narrow minded, predjudicial, book burning peasants.
Now I am done responding to this thred, I have explained my actions, the why and the how. Take your information from that, as the horses mouth is often the most accurate source. And one last explanation. If you find my words here are heated, they are, but look at it from my point of view. One friendly respectful challenge and everyone calls me a liar and a cheat. Hell if I challenge anyone disrespectfully you do the same. So other than the
anger, you'll find I am giving very little creedence or consideration to your opinions anymore, because opinions are like arse's everyone has one. And I'm tired of trying to vindicate myself from everyone's rumors and assumed ideas.
And remember, no matter what you think, one way or another, this is settled Sunday eve, not by your mouths, but by the blade of the Overlord and my own. Try and keep your perspective next time you think your opinion has any meaning in that meeting. Because it does not....and it never will.
I am done,
