::reads the results, having heard about it earlier in teh arena, cursing softly because he missed it, having no clue where and when the challenge was to take place, is slow like that someitimes::

Var, my long time friend,

It's great to see you've finally won a prize like this, I hope it brings you the confidence and happiness it had me. Bring honor to this Title, my friend, you're now in the spotlight, as I'm sure you've already seen.

King Leto,

I've known you for a while, as well, and always respected you. Though your reign wasn't as long as you deserve, you wore the ring proudly and with honor. Many good wishes on your return to that rank.

Nyck,

Well called, as always, you're a credit to your uniform and deserve recognition for the work you do, as do all Officials who put their time and energy into making the Duel of Swords run. Thanks for teh calling.

Now, I really wish someone had let me know this was going on, I was supposed to report on it::grumbles cheerfully::

::Smiles, as he reads such touching words, he writes a few words down::

A few simple words, please bear with me.

To begin with, I thank Leto again for dueling with integrity and skill. I promise him I will try to the fullest extent to bear the ring proudly, and to never disgrace it.
To Nycholas de Gyrlington, it was a very well called duel. As it can sometimes be distracting when in a room with other duels going on, I feel it didn't hinder your ability at all. Very well called.
To the duelers in the arena. I thank you for the kind words spoken for Leto and me. Many said it was well defended, and I agree. However, it was also handled with dignity, which I did know would come from Duke Leto.
Last, and definately not least, I want to thank my wife and our son, Noble Morgan, for coming. When my dear family is near, there seems to be nothing in the world to worry about. I thank Noelle and Noble Morgan for being there, and I hope they realize I'm always there for them.

As a final note, to those that weren't present during the time of announcement; I have declared myself loyal, to my friend and the great overlord, Dalamar.

Respectfully,
Var Medici-Giovanni

::the lone minotaur walks up to the boards::

16 months ago, a commoner with 6 or 7 losses over wins, taught me how to duel when I walked into the duelers arena. It was an off day, and there were fewer than a dozen conducting practice duels, and this man pulled myself and another 'newbie' aside (I forget the other's name and he dissapeared shortly thereafter, but that is unimportant). I began to duel officially that week, and in the coming months proceeded to go 0-4 against my teacher. Today,
Var Medici-Giovanni, is the newest Baron to hold the 10th ring in the Duel of Swords. I can think of few better to achieve such an honor (well off the top of my head anyway...hehe), and can think of no better teachers or friends to serve in the position either. I wish to you a long and happy reign Comm...no...Watl...no...BARON Var Medici-Giovanni (man, I can't believe I just said that!)

Still a commoner...but not for long,
