Honor

To any and all,

I wish to pose a question to all the dueling community out there. I feel that this would help me out, and perhaps others in understanding something. What exactly is Honor. I mean how do you all view it. We throw that word out so often, and carelessly. On several instances I have seen it used in a manner that I don't agree with. So I ask for comments so that I may learn a little more about this. Feel free to respond to me in whatever way you feel. And
I thank you ahead of time for taking out some of your wisdom to share with me.

Avery Shiv Blade
Baron of the 6th
Student of life

Good Baron.

Though I doth nae be a warrior of any sort, I do feel that I canst give thee an answer of sorts.
Honor ist nae something that canst be explained in words, it doth be something that ist felt in one's heart. There doth be many sorts of Honor, and many degrees of it. Though many wilt judge thine Honor, the only true judge of one's Honor doth be that person alone.
However, to judge one's own honor, one must truely be willing to hold with an honesty so brutal in it's search for the truth that one is willing to see all the dark stains they may have on their soul.
Honor ist nae something you hold always. It doth be something that thou must strive to achieve with all thine actions. To hold Honor in a duel, when thou dost nae hold Honor in thine personal dealings, ist as good as holding no Honor at all.
A lesson to us all, I think me.

Mikhail Thorgrin, Bard Extra-ordinaire.

A true measure of a man comes from with-in, nay from with-out.

Gosh,

It's kind of hard to ask a question when your entire paragraph doesn't contain one question mark.

For me, Honor is something that reflects a part of your personality. It demonstrates how truthful an' trustworthy one is or can be. It can also hold some degree of chivalry in it (ie. manners). For duty, Honor can mean that one strives to accomplish his/her goal. Just some of my views,

Baron Avery Shiv Blade.

No one can give thee honor, for it is a gift thou giveth unto thineself. What none can give, none can take away. Only thee holds thine honor, and only thee can cast it aside. Seek within thine heart, Baron, yet know thine every word, thine every action shall be observed and taken into account by others, for such is the way. Honor thineself, Avery. Flee not from thine nature, seek to deceive none, but ne'er seek to deceive thineself. Seek advice
from those thou findest honorable by thine own lights, yet know, only thou and thou alone shall be held accountable for thine deeds.

Humbly,
Jona,
Common as they come.

Honor is a child of truth but then analysis and debate keep people away from honor.

Honor is understanding of a whole.

Honor tis like a feeling....something that can nay be measured but only by the one who cast the amount.

In the magnifying glass of one's honor, his/her own looks greatest.

Honor is a knowledge within the heart, beyond the reach of proof.

Our own fault is our preoccupation with the fault of another's honor.

The optimist sees honor and not the battle of fighting over it. The pessimist stares at the battle of fighting over it, oblivious of honor.

God made our bodies temples for honor, and they should be kept strong and clean to be worthy of the deity that occupies them.

whooohooo...but what of the atheist? What is honor to him?

::furrows brow::

Honor, I think, is doing what is right according to moral code.
However, there's one major question - What is right and wrong?
When one thinks he's acting honorably, others might think that he's doing the wrong thing.
If one tries to act honorably at all costs, he may find that he sacrificed everything while
acting dishonorably.

Another definition of honor is respect given to one by an individual. If one chases this honor, it flees from him - if one flees from it, it chases him.

To me, honor could be summarized as one word: integrity.

I would have to say that honor is a matter of commitment. To treat others fairly, to not say anything behind someone's back that you would not say to their face, to not say anything to one's face if you do not have the courage to back your words up with actions (or to apologize if you are wrong), and to seek to better yourself. Not just to gain rank or power, though this can be a part of the process, but to improve as a person and a
sapient being.

However you live it, you can know that you've lived an honorable life if you aren't ashamed of what you've done, I feel.
