Upon taking a perusal through the older posts left up here undestroyed by time, an odd sort of feeling hit me. That wasn't too long ago. It wasn't old-school. Even then, people looked back to the "Good Ol' Days," but, perhaps because I've forgotten half of it, they seem like a better time.
We argued. We argued about why we argued. We argued about why we argued about arguing... just like today, but it was different. Each statement was a carefully scribed and researched post, fraught with quotes and references from the opposing side. It was professional, and most times it was even polite. Though numerous, one could guarantee a vast majority of the posts were intelligent and not quips of idiocy, excluding my own.
I miss an active Kalamere. His historic analysis and cool figures were daunting in his siding. Each statement was backed with previous settlements, events, and facts that come to mind only after starting the DoS Historical Center.
I miss an active Iain. His arrogant tone and blunt facts were the obvious missing links to any discussion. He was that salient kick in the side that you can only like a year or two later.
I miss Elijah. Oddly enough, that spark of fire darting through the boards is something now desired. More long-winded than even Kalamere in speech and writing alike, he always had the point of an abused orphan... and was even right sometimes. He was loyal. He was passionate. He loved the sport in all its modes.
I miss Draven. I miss Sloth. I miss Athlstan. I miss Huma being unknown and Rad being an idiot. I miss a floundering Gnort and a coherant Adonai. I miss being liked by at least a half dozen people.
It wasn't the grand age of DoS, but it was a high-point in my life and will always be a grand memory.

Lily's eyes became soft and glassy upon reading Lupton's post. Valerye looked to her, "Shall we move on ma'am?"

Lily nodded and they proceeded onward.

Lupton:

We may never have a peaceful time around here without burning the Inn to the ground, and arguments would likely ensue over which side would best be ignited first.
Nonetheless, I appreciate your words that hold no true ill will(perhaps a little good humor that some might think else of) as a breather in the neverending tangle of the Furies around this town. I'll not smear this thread with any brand of negativity, and I hope the town falls suit...
..Just take a moment to breathe in and focus on not hurting anyone.

::reads the post by Lupton, remembering the time when he was around in what do seem like Good Old Days now::

Ah...what happened to all those guys? After all, they aren't legendary for no reason. On the other hand, we have people who could be legendary, too...but sometimes I wish we'd all take a more intelligent route.

I miss the Lupton who wasn't so power hungary to betray his loyal friends who gave him a chance when no one else would.

M'Lord Lupton.

Though I haven't been here nearly as long as you, I don't think it was much more than a year ago when I remember the kind of times you're talking about.
Those were indeed good times, and I'd like to think I was a part of it, just as much as any of the others. I'd like to think that, most of the time, my ramblings, thoughts, and replies on this board are coherant and thought out.
Someone told me a few days ago that there was no way to recapture those days, and that many had tried hard and given up. Personally, I'm not one to give up, so I'll keep on living my life the way I choose, and keep on trying to make the world a better place for my daughter.

Drake, and others...
No, those days will not be back. But who's to say we won't have something better come along in the future? If we scrap it all and start arguing like children, we'll have to go to the ashes before the phoenix rises...

I wish to formally post my intention of commencing peace talks between my friend Baphelocutis and the honorable Warlord Lupton...

Baphe,

I would prithee thee to remember a story of our family..the story of my daughter Marilanna, daughter to my wife Arilanna..Prithee, remember the mistakes she made, in my presence, which led to the destruction of half a world, and the mercy which all the house has shown her..and also the forgiveness. If ye think ye have been wronged by Lupton, I would most humbly ask that ye use the same judgement as ye did those years ago.

To Lord Lupton,

I would ask that thee entertain the notion of formal peace talks between thyself and thy former Lord Baphelocutis, presided over by myself, in an attempt to bring more peace to this land.

Shadowsiv, ally of House Family Lathadoscia but also counted a friend of the noble lord Lupton.

In a time long since past, I knew the name Lupton, but not the man. For some it would be but a short span in time since then, but to me it has been a long journey since my beginning here. Kalamere was the Overlord whence I made my initial debut in the Arena; an unknown Commoner just learning to wield a sword. I found a fascination with this place that holds me to this day, provoking
my inner~most urge to meet the challenge.
Like most, I remember the names of those that sat atop the hierarchy when I was struggling just to make Swordsman. I admired their skills with a sword, their loyalty, and the honor they held true. They had reached that pinnacle of greatness that most of us only dreamed of while struggling at the lowest rung of the dueling ladder.
I have been fortunate enough to have the privilege of meeting some of the Barons and Overlords whose names grace the pages of history. Others I have had the pleasure of sitting in company with on occasion, always experiencing that quiet awe in their presence.
Recently, I have been thusly honored in meeting Lupton est Dracoern. I can even now see the wide eyes and hear the gasps for breath at my last statement, but allow me a moment to let you see him through my eyes.
First off, I do not find myself within the politics of DoS; I look upon my fellow duelers for who they are, not what they've done or haven't done. We all have past experiences best left forgotten, we watch ourselves change and make adjustments in our lives in hopes to better our everyday existence. I know not the past of many and I judge no one; lest I be judged myself.
I was to meet Lupton in a duel to vie for position in the TDL tourney, but on that day some late registrations altered our meeting. We would meet in the ring at a later date under the expert calling of Luthien, at which time Lupton accused me of being rude and vowed never to step foot in the ring with me again. His accusations preyed on my mind, but dueling someone that possess the skills of Lupton warrants your full attention, so I shrugged it
off temporarily.
A few days later, I took the initiative and asked him why he thought me rude. It seems I hadn't responded to him when he spoke to me, which certainly could be considered rude, so I made my apologies and he graciously accepted them.
I thought no more about Lupton; he went his way and I mine. Our choice of friends differed and we had no reason to get better acquainted however. To my surprise, I received a message from him shortly thereafter. Bemused as to why he would call upon me I responded mostly out of curiosity.
He had been brutally attacked and was in need of aid. Having concern for a fellow duelist, I opted to assist him, as I would any other I know, whether cordially or personally. I tended to a gash in his side and a deep puncture wound to his thigh. The bruises and welts he suffered from a blunted instrument wouldhave to heal on their own. During this time, I had the pleasure to meet a most interesting man.
He had a strong grace about him, and a pride to match that made it hard for him to admit he needed assistance. He spoke with a confidence the belied his pain, telling me how much he was hated within the DoS community. I couldn't understand why anyone would dislike this man; he was a caring individual, his manner was soft, and he said nothing against anyone, at least not to me.
I spent a majority of my time with this man over the next week or so, tending to his wounds, ensuring that he ate, and talking. He spoke of how things used to be, of his ex-wife, of the city of Lathadoscianda and of Elle, the one person who had always stood by him. As I listened, I could feel a quiet hurt underlying a hardened exterior. He was no different then any of us; this man that protrays a gruff unbending will wants nothing more then to be
accepted.
Those intense brown eyes can almost peer into your soul, but with the same tenderness that emits from an endearing smile. Even as I worried for his life, his concern was for me, that he was taking too much of my time and keeping me from my life. This is a man I am proud to call friend.
I think back to the night when Lupton and I stood in the Annex, watching Huma's Challenge Match, and the warnings I received from some of my friends. Lupton had offered me a comforting shoulder as I found my life had been shattered. He understood what I was going through and wanted nothing of me but to be there for me.
The more I listened to my friends, the more I doubted Lupton's motives, and I gave in to this doubt. I'd wrongly judged a man on nothing more then mere words. I humbly apologize to Lupton est Dracoern for surrendering my convictions to public opinion and offer my hand in friendship. I know not of his past, and therefore base our friendship on the present and ask for his forgivness.
For those in the DoS community I proudly call friend, if your friendship be true you will choose to stand by me for my convictions, if not for my choice. Until that time th
at I do witness disrespect, gainful use of or endangerment to me, or those that I care for, I will stand as a friend of Lupton est Dracoern.

I have but a small statement about this remembering...I was'nae smart enough nor aware enough to give a damn about anything that happened a year or so ago within the Duel of Swords arenas...Now it seems I know just about everything that goes on.
Yet...I can't help but feel that we made some kind of folly here...Everyone states of the 'Good 'Ole times' of the past...but in the recent future, this will be the 'Good 'Ole times' of the past...Everyone misses people of the past...why should we ave to live with that again...
Now I may not be all that wise, or intelegent with words...but this will happen...What of the future...what are the possibilites it shall hold?

Never let evil consume you.

::Finds it odd that, as an immortal, Lupton had always before recovered from wounds in minutes or hours, not days... And yet, in this situation, he did not... But she resolves to say nothing, leaving it to others.::

If people stopped trying to hold on to the "good ol' days", then maybe they could start making new good days. Out with the old, and in with the new... which will be the old tommorow... wait.. then whats the point of the new? It will all be old in the end. ::Rubs his temples:: ..
