Call to Arms, A Questrion of Loyalty
From: blaznslow@aol.com (Blazn Slow)
Date: 14 Feb 1998 01:12:46 EST
As I take up this quill and set the point to paper, I , Gloria Blaze, do set aside my personal desires. I originally took up the sport to avenge my love. Killed by Barons of DoS was he. I joined a House, and swore Loyalty to them and watched my House erupt in civil dispute with the Duke Adonai Uziel leading the charge. It was with great contempt I was prepared to challenge the man who claimed all of Questrion Silver supported his rebellion. He left
Zagaroth and I to stand behind alone. As we sat in the ruins of the rebellion, I was not trusted by those remaining in Questrion having been part of the former Silver and not taken by Retribution. I found friends elsewhere to duel with but I remain loyal to Questrion and will stand for them, blade ready if called upon.
:: smiling sweet with fire in her eyes she tacks the message to the board ::

Gloria,
If you have something to say, say it woman. I have never disrespected you nor your friends, and when Silver broke away it was by THEIR decision, not mine....you try to light the fires and wave the banners against me, but you have little to stand on to do so.. What are you saying Gloria? Are you trying to roust the patrons of this sport mayhaps? Mayhaps to gain support for a challenge against a Loyal?
I think you might sit back and think my lady. You seem to direct your offense at being dumped from a dueling team at me when that decision was not my own, and you also try and rouse old loyalties in defense against me. For what reason do you do this eh? Have I ever offered you direct offense? I think not.
So again Gloria, ware ambition, for it can whisper evil lies into your mind and make the most harmless gesture a grave offense.
And if anything, spare us the tawdry excuses and challenge me as you plan to, place the peer wins on the board. As I would have no problem with defending and mayhaps handing the ring over to you anyway.
I am,
~Adonai Uziel~
~DragonLord of RhyDin~
~Baron of the Seventh~

:: Having sent messages and talked to others she trusted she looked and only saw Questrion left as a tree during the dead of winter. Would spring arrive? She did not know. Should she wait for her Lord to return? She did not know. ::
:: She walked quietly from the library towards the dueling Arenas hoping to discover something. Only time could tell. ::

:: No answers. None from Lady Starfare, none from Ulath, none from Baron Huma, the last of the renegade Questrion Barons. Looking at the Questrion banner on the wall she wonders if she should pick it up as it were. She pushes a table to the wall, and then places a chair on the table. Carefully climbing up on the chair she reaches up to the banner of the silver and black and tugs it down. Grabbing a broom and a mop she saws off the ends with her
sword. Finally cutting them off she looks around the room for a piece of rope. Tying the two handles together to create a makeshift pole she attaches the banner to create a standard. Finally, she ties the whole contraption to the ring post of the center ring. She attaches a note to the base of it when done. ::
This is what is left of Questrion, hollow walls of an empty castle, and a fallen banner.
I will no longer stand for nothing.

The woman enters in the quiet of late eve. A glance to the wall bring to her notice the missing banner. Arching a brow, she looks around the cavern her gaze falling upon the center ring. She motions to the serving lads. Aloysius and Hubert untie the makeshift pole from the ring post while Marcus carries the note to the woman. The woman reads the note. The woman has little fondness for the Lord of Questrion yet the ancient banner of Silver
and Black, that of House Questrion and of the thirteenth Overlord of the Duels deserves respect, a respect accorded to the colors of each Baron and Overlord since the reign of Gondar, a respect for the rank if not for those that may hold it. The woman spoke to an old friend of both herself and the Lord.
Nemo drags a ladder to the south wall as Al and Hubie shake out the banner. Nemo braces the ladder against the wall. Hubie frowns noticing the tears in the corners of the banner. The woman murmurs a simple cantrip weaving the torn places together. Al drags another ladder to the wall. The woman braces the second ladder as Al and Hubie drape the banner between them then climb the ladders. A murmured word from the woman secures the banner to
the ancient stones. It shall remain there until such time as Lord Valmion, his son Arlingond or the Black Mage choses to remove it; for to them only will the woman give the words to counter the spell which holds the banner in place.
The serving lads climb down the ladders then haul the ladders back to the storage room off the kitchen behind the bar. The woman stands before the south wall then steps back. Huma Dragonbane yet stands alone as the only renegade Baron, seemingly unsupported by his own House, the Christmas Rebellion having faltered, the Renegade Baron Moralitor having lost his ring to the now Baron Adonai Uziel. There is much she knows of the mechanations that
brought about the fall and much that yet remains to be discovered. It may be a long while before the skeins of this tangled web are woven into whole clothe.
Without a word the woman turns then vanishes in a soft azure shimmer.

In the early dawn, former Motley of Questrion stepped into the arena, his eyes scanning the walls to find the silver and black hung once more in their proper place. A slight smile crossed his lips and he breathed a silent word of thanks to the Lady Jonalyn as he drew his hood up over his head and slipped out to attend to the business of the day.
