What I know about the tourney

::He writes on the boards, disgusted::

Lords and Ladies of DoS,

It is with great despair that I know some events that happened in the commoner's tourney. These things will never be seen, but from now on they will be known.

I know of at least one dueler who was helped by a higher rank. The higher rank secretly sent unseen missives to the commoner. This is highly unfair towards those who dueled honorably.

However, I am not going to disclose the name of the one I know who helped, and the one who recieved help. I feel it's their personal responsibility to do so. It was my responsibility to let the public know that such an event was occurring.

From now on, I'm not going to mention names. I'll let those who are in the wrong look inside themself.

On the other hand, I was in an official duel, and a friend of mine tried to tell me which move to do to win. This name I won't mention either. What I did was some other move, which was not suggested to me. I know if I did a suggested move, my integrity would be at stake.

The point of this post is this: duel with your own skill and honor; not someone else's.

::reads Var's missive and shakes her head::

By Zeus, can no one be trusted to stand on their own anymore? If what Var is saying is true, it is a sad statement of that person's integrity.

::walks away without posting her thoughts. Sincerely hoping that Var is mistaken.::

If you want to know where I got it, someone was telling me this. This person happened to be the one helping out the other. When I told him/her that the commoner he/she was helping should fight their own duel, he/she then agreed that there wasn't any help. Though, unless I misunderstood this person, he/she did state before that they were helping, until I finally told them my opinion, when this person said to me, "Good, the move
worked".

Cleared up? If not, I will try to restate the whole conversaiton, instead of summarize it.

My .02

I have asked for help, and been asked for help. Although the time I was asked for help I simply ignored the request, there was a time when I listened to the advice. I now find myself comfortable with the matrix and have enough SGDs of my own. To go asking for someone esle's advice that 90% of the time conflicted with both my first and second guess seems silly in retrospect. ((As a young commoner, it didn't))
Is this coaching any different than Rocky going to his corner between rounds?, then a third base coach sending signals to the batter and runner? Maybe it is, maybe it's not we must each descide for ourselves. Just like we must each assume that when we enter a ring with a "commoner" it's not the Overlord in disguise.((Just an example, not to say Dal would do that)), that in the weekend before our challenge for a baron's ring every new face isn't
said baron/ness scouting our moves. If someone dueling me is being coached, I'll never know. I must simply rely on my skill to beat the person I am facing.

It was probably Var giving the commoner the moves himself.

::reads Dae's post and tsks::

I must simply rely on my skill to beat the person I am facing.~~~D.S.

Daemon..... I think you hit it without even knowing... when I duel I have to rely on MY skills to better the skill of the person I face in the ring.... When I face you in the ring, I expect to be facing the skills of Daemon Satyriasis..... Not the skills of the Baroness Luthien in the guise of a commoner that I already know. (Please ... I am Not saying that either of you would do this.. the names are being used only as examples of
skill levels)........

You see.... If I dueled Janella or saw her in the arena, and then were paired against her in the commoners tourney, I'd expect to be dueling Janella. Now... she may be Luthien in disguise... but if she were, I'd still be dueling the skills I had already seen in use, NOT the skills of another higher rank sitting in the background giving her moves to use. It is a verra different situation.

As for coaching... it has it's place, obviously or there wouldn't be any dueling schools out there teaching the new duelers...... but, to my mind, the coaching should stop during a duel. If the dueler has no matrix.. or couse they may want to know what moves win out over certain moves. Providing those answers, I think, would be alright so long as the dueler makes his own choices about what moves he uses, and when to use them.

Please... I ask that no one take offense at my using your name in this post. I would never imply that any of you would ever consider something such as this, I used name of duelers that I know operate at differing skill levels to simply illustrate my point.

::Sighs, and writes::

Ladies and gentlemen of DoS, let me reclarify something,

The meaning of this post was to let you know that there are things that happen in what should be the most honest of competitions. Perhaps I approached it the wrong way, I don't know. What I do know is this:

We all should be dueling fairly, and when you find out that one is cheating, it makes you want to say something about it, whether it was done the right way or not. If I brought up the problem the wrong way, I apologize.

Dae, I see your point with coaching and such, but there are differences. In the sports you speak of, they are team sports, and it is the job of the coaches to help during the game. In this sport, however, it is an individual matchup, and the teachers are supposed to help after the match, or before.

The one that was being helped (to my knowledge, of course) did not continue on that far in the tourney. I guess what's done is done, and nothing can be fixed. Just think about what can happen in these competitions, so we won't have to go through this next time a tourney arises.

::Blushes slightly as she re-reads her previous message to the boards::

My apologies, Daemon... the wording I chose gave the impression that you are ranked as a Commoner, when in fact you are not. Your rank as a Master at Arms in the standings was one reason I selected you for the example... That and that I know you to be an honorable man...........

Is it so hard to have a challange, or tournament without scandal? I am new and have only watched a few post regarding chalanges or tourneys, but in everyone someone is getting moves from someone else, is chalanging without peer wins etc, etc, etc! I'm thinking that if as much cheeting goes on in the rings as does on the boards the cheeting shouldn't be a problem. We would all have to be involved in it and shurly on
cheat cancels out another?

As to "It was probably Var giving the commoner the moves himself," however, this is compleatly out of line. Even if you think so, you have no proof. Keep it to yourself.

::Reads the post by Walks Unseen, saying to himself, then writes as he says it:: Thanks, Walks. It's very insulting when I'm accused of doing the crime I mentioned in the boards. That would make me decietful towards everyone including myself. Moreover, the one who said that about me would be insulting everyone's intelligence, as well, by stating that whoever believes me is
foolish.

However, I won't say no more. I am not going to stoop down to the mudslinger's level. I'm just writing some words that are fact, about what's being insinuated.

I do have to say, what Var means is all true. Commoners, ect is what keeps this sport true. If it was not fer them, than the high ranks would mean jack. This prize though, is not worthy of the battle to get it. I do think there should a be ring, maybee a tenth, where only commoners can hold it. They be the blood and sweat of the sport.

Accusations without absolute fact are hearsay. I am not so foolish as to say there is not some degree of dishonest in *any* competition, however a statement without absolute fact should be considered in that light. I recall accusations that one baron had somehow found a way to see moves when sent to the caller. Now while this accusation has much more meat than the other, fact should rule
passion. Never the reverse.
