Jola was sitting up in bed watching the moonlight paint Ulath's face when he awoke. His steady jade gaze looked at her with love as his hand snaked even further around her body. "What's up, love?" He sounded like he hadn't been asleep himself.
"I was just thinking," Jola said softly. "Why are we still together?"
They had read the announcement together, and he knew what she was talking about. So many marriages dissolved, torn apart, given up. Theirs had lasted for more than three years, and she couldn't imagine their union ever being undone.
He smiled. His answer was simple. "Because we choose to be."
His tug on her waist pushed aside further worry and she slid down to snuggle into his arms. "I love you," came his soft whisper against her hair. She kissed his chest and responded, "I love you."
