A sad goodbye
From: catlaen@aol.com (Catlaen)
Date: 17 May 1998 21:32:16 EDT
::Cat walked into the silent arena, her steps slow and dragging. Ignoring the rings and the bar, she went straight to the message board and pinned up a notice. Silent tears ran down her cheeks as she stood for a moment, then turned and ran out again.::
Patrons of the arena and dear friends;
It is with a sad heart that I have to inform you of the passing of the Warlord, Lucian. He was set upon by an assassin in the arena after his most recent challenge match, and was gravely injured. In spite of the efforts of Rhydin's best healers, he did not recover from his wounds.
At his own request, he has been returned to England to rest with his family. His last words were of the joy he had found with his friends in Rhydin, his new family in House Oakenshield, and with his love, Ellisa Morgan.

::wanders up and stares for a while at the paper::
Lucky...dead?
::Aja stared at the board and blinked several times hoping the message would change, but no, there were the words plain as day. Lucian had passed away. Aja swallowed hard and brushed away a tear::
Goodbye friend. Ye shall be missed.
::she wandered off to the arena to drink a toast to him::

Pausing before the ancient corkboard, the commoner comes upon the news of Lucian's passing. Her gaze drifted to the south banner wall. She remember his quiet ways in the afternoons when she might come upon him sitting at a table in the dueling house as she stood in the silence of the basement late that eve. Marcus wandered over, sniffling, rubbing his nose. The commoner gently rested a hand lightly on the youngster's shoulder, "We
shall remember 'im, Marcus."
Al and Hubie wandered to the bar, each wearing a black armband. The commoner looked to the serving lads, whispering, "Tis a fione tribute thee gi' ta' Lucian." The commoner made her way to the bar leading a sniffling Marcus. As she pulled a linen hanky from her pouch, handing it to Marcus, Al and Hubie placed a tray of black silk ribbons at the end of the bar. She took one, tying it to the hilt of her dagger, while she imbedded the memory of
her last sight of Lucian and his assailant deeply in her thoughts.
She gave Marcus a hug, "Tis ye git some rest, wee one, Al an 'ubie will see ta' rakin' th' rings an' cleanin' up th' eve." Al and Hubie, their usual high spirits subdued went about their chores. Marcus slowly climbed the ladder to the small loft above the kitchen. It would be many hours before the youngster finally fell asleep. Al and Hubie trudged back to the kitchen after storing the ring rakes and shovels. The commoner offered a silent
salute to the former Baron as her gaze rested upon the tapestries and banners displayed on the wall. She took another of the black ribbons, placing it upon Lucian's usual table. She turned to the back stairs, vanishing before reaching the top. Gav was expecting her. They'd had a wager that evening. She would delay telling him the sad news until the morrow. This evening she would share the joy of love and life with her husband.

Jeff had feared this day would come, when he would have to come to the realization that Lucian would not be returning. It was more than he could handle and comprehend, perhaps more than he ever wanted to. Lucian had been one of his very best friends, one of the first to join his house to help him build upon the foundation of his manor, one of the first to willingly start a new team with him. Lucian always took the time to listen as
well, no matter the problem of the half dwarf, and his support was unwaivering. Moving on is part of life and death, but moving on without Lucian will prove difficult for Jeff.
Walking up to the message board and reading over the official death notice, he is too shook up to actually post he sorrow, rather he speaks softly a few words and prays Lucian has found peace.
"Be well me friend, I will miss ya."
With that he turned to go home, hoping to find comfort in the arms of the loved ones he still had with him.

::enters the darkend arena and saunters over to Lucian's table draped in black. Sits down quietly looking over to Marcus with a sad smile. Leans her elbows on the table, her remembering his beautiful poems, his gentle ways.
Takes a deep breath, shaking her head to Marcus as he produces a Pete's for her:: I best get back to ta House, I hae a few people waiting. Too bad we be missin' one.
::hops up and runs back up the stairs, knowing there will always be an empty spot::

::Turns after reading the sad news to notice the basket with black ribbons on the bar. With a nod to Marcus takes one and ties it to the hilt of her rapier. Stopping at Lucian's table on the way out whispers:: Fare thee well

::scowls darkly as she reads the message again and again, her mind unable or unwilling to accept the words. Spinning on a heel without adding any kind words of remembrance, she heads out of the arena, although not before snagging a black ribbon from the table. She swipes vaguely at her nose as she leaves, her thoughts preoccupied with her arrival in the arena...being dragged in by a friend who was dueling Lucian at the time...::

May Malichi hold you in Her loving arms as you rest in peace, Lucian.
Everyone,
Has there been any talk of a memorial service for Lucy? If not, I think we should plan one.
