Delilah was bored... The party had been alot of fun, and she wasn't ready to go to sleep yet, not by a long shot. They had stopped by the Arena on the way home, because Mommy wanted to read the messages again... so Delilah asked if she could stand on a chair and read to. Drake chuckled at the idea and summoned up a small earth elemental to hold her daughter up, making much more of a fun adventure out of the whole
thing.
While Drake was busy reading some of the older messages, Delilah flipped through the pages at random... pretending, for the most part, to understand what was written. That's when she spotted her Daddy's name, written in someone else's handwritting... She wasn't sure what most of the words meant, of what "Father's Day" was, but she was -not- happy to see a number 2 by her Daddy's name, and a number 1 by some other name.
Pretty sure her Mommy wasn't paying close attention, she took one of the crayons from her box and began scrawling...
m
Lilah da di num er 1!
d
After looking at her handywork, she remembered that there was supposed to be a "D" at the beggining of her name. And, since she had started writing her name at the begining of the page, she carefully scrawled her capital D on the wood of the board itself.

The Baron looked over the post with a warm smile. Nodding to Noelle's wise choosings. "Noble men they are, grand fathers they make," the mercenary mummered his words under his breath. Whispering an uncharacteristic prayer, hopeing that he has been atleast half the father to Riley as Var.. or Perri... or G'nort are to their children.
"I love you, Riley," calling silently to his young daughter... and for the briefest of moments, a tear formed in the career-hardened mercenary's eye. Not allowing his emotions and feeling to get the best of him, Roland simply ressumed his leaning. Reading over the other posts half-heartedly, awaiting the opening of the famed dueling house.

Sighs quietly as his jeweled orbed eyes mist slightly, catching himself he clears his throat with a bass rumble. Cast out from the Seven Heavens by his own father, Paladine, because of being a "mutant", no longer worthy to keep company with true dragons. And his lovely only wife, Jayne LaMer had been assassinated before they could bear any young. Though of Family Lathadoscia and with plenty who would call
him friend, he never had the oppurtunity to have his own family. None of his own blood loved him and he had not been able to try with his own. For tommorrow he would stay away from the humanoid civilizations.
Honor to thyself, Respect to others,

Mon Cher Papa,
I love you because you are the mostest wonderful papa in the widest world. You love me and let me sit on my lap and never let anyone hurt me, even if Monsieur Billy said he was going to eat me. When I grow up, I am going to marry you and be just like you, except I will wear dresses and have two peg legs and sharp pointy teeth.
I am sorry Over Lord Dal said you had to Duel tomorrow, but Marme says that dinner on another day is just as good, because you know it is the same. Whatever that means.
HAPPY FATHERS DAY
Grosses Bises,
Aislain

The Alabaster Manor was quiet and dark... a single soldier on foot patrol some distance down the hill, thinking about the lovely serving lass he had met just the day before.
Just over the rise stood the huge old barn... young Alexis slept, as was her wont, on a large pile of fresh hay. The few horses and, strangely enough the pair of deer, quiet and asleep as well.
In the Manor, Belinda, the ghostly housekeeper, was carefully and quietly cleaning another of the rooms in the east wing... tireless as time, and faithful to whomever were the rightful owners.
In young Delilah's room dozed a large, coal black Raven... who came awake just as Drakewyn appeared, carrying the sleeping toddler. There were unshead tears in the woman's eyes as she looked to the Raven, sharing a silent conversation with him. Then, she carefully opened the door to the corridor, and went a short distance down to another room.
The General, Perrinis, slept soundly on the much-too-large canopied bed... a clean uniform rested on the nightstand, laid out by Belinda the evening before.
Gathering spells of silence about her, Drakewyn made her way into the bedroom and lay her sleeping daughter next to the girl's father... a note pinned to her blouse reading "Happy Father's Day" Then she conjured a small handfull of her golden rosepetals, scattering them about in a blessing from the Goddess.
After a moment of watching her daughter, the Grand Duchess left the room as quietly as she entered... and, after closing the door, vanished once more.

It was very late and Helix and Brian were rounding up for bed. Helix rubbed her temples after dealing with many hours of various jibes, complaints and questions that related to her work for DoS. Brian was always amazed that while everyone seemed to be able to remember how long someone held a dueling rank no one had even taken note that soon Helix would have been running the Duel of Swords for two years. He had helped
her for some of the time but he had lost his chief aide and the people of GateWay needed his attention. He had returned to them. Now he ushered Helix off to bed. "Go on, love, I'll check on the children, ye just get t' bed." Helix's head hurt far to bad for her to argue. Brian headed in and looked on young Benjamin. The lad had tousled his quilt and Brian tucked him back in rubbing his head. He was a good, honest, hard working lad even if he
was a bit head strong. Brian thought back on when Ben had first shown up. He was only three back then and Brian had been reeling from the deception of his first wife. He never that woman by name but he still carried a photo of Nadja with him. The truth had come out from his now missing friend, Ken Dones, that he was unable to father children. Helix had stood by him as the fully adopted Ben. The young boy had already adopted them and Brian knew
he would grow up to be a fine, brave, and loyal man that would continue the spirit of GateWay place long after Brian and Helix had been buried. Brian tousled Ben's pure white hair and left the lad's room.
He peeked in at the soft red head of Jenny. He stood over her for a long and considered his role as her father. He loved both of the children dearly but there was a bond a father daughter, even if they were not flesh and blood. Brian smoothed her soft red hair. She looked so much like an angel and she would often fall asleep in his lap while he read to her. Those days would pass too soon and she would mature into a young woman, too old to hug
her old Da and talking to her mother of all the young lad's that had shown an interest in courting her. His heart broke already for the day he let another man take his stead as her protector and provider. He would be replaced but he would try and fill the void that left in his heart with the memories of her insistent intonations for Daddy's attention. Her wide loving eyes looking up at him as he took her on his horse and rode her through the
field. A tear caressed her smooth cheek. "Were I to have naught but ye, Ben and yer mother, I'd be by far the richest man that ever drew breath." He kissed his daughter in her sleep and headed back to comfort his wife. Father and husband, he loved being both. Who knew what prizes his family had waiting for him on the morrow? Each day they were his treasure and his reason for being.

The dawn broke through the window, scattering shards of light across the bedspread. Summer popped up, wanting to rise before Jeff to prepare a Father's Day suprise with Charlie. To her chagrin, Jeff's place beside her was empty.
With a scowl she slid out of bed and tugged on a pair of pants and a loose shirt. This was just like Jeff, being so busy of late. He could not even stick around on Father's Day for a biscuit and a cup of tea. Stubbornly she stalked into the main room of the suite, sighing as she bent over to pick up Charlie. But Charlie was gone.
A smile danced upon her lips as she went downstairs through the manor, the servants just waking to begin their daily tasks. In the kitchen she stopped to quietly question Ellen, the Oakenshield Housekeeper and always the first to rise.
She found her husand and daughter by the lake watching seven baby ducks being lead by a mallard out for their morning roots and worms. Jeff held Charlie in his arms, whispering in her ear. Summer came up behind and slid her arms around them chuckling, "Ya up early luv?"
"Aye luv, showing Charlie ta dawn." From the tone of his voice, Summer could swear he was almost blushing.
"Ta Dawn, luv" She smiled as her daughter peered over Jeff's shoulder and tried to grab her nose. "Now why ya want ta go do tha'? Me an' our Charlie hae planned a surprise for ya."
Jeff turned to capture Summer up in a soft hug kissing her hair to Charlie's delighted squeals, "Tell ya what luv, I return ta bed and ya and Charlie can come suprise me. But I just wanted Charlie ta share an impotant time wi' me."
Curiously, Summer poked Jeff then adjusted Charlie's blanket so the early morning chill would not touch the baby. "An' wha' be tha' luv?"
Jeff hugged her tight, his voice gruff with emotion, "Ta dawn of my first Father's Day."
Summer leaned her head against his shoulder and listend to the approving chortles of Charlie as Jeff pointed out a fat swan. Tears fell from her eyes as she smiled and whispered, "Happy Father's Day, luv."

As Cygnet strolled past the ancient board, she smiled, remembering it was father's day.
Pausing, she thought of all the wonderful fathers that ventured into the dueling arena, each one touching a gentle place in her heart...
Perrinis, Roland, Gort, Var, Jeffrey, Ulath, Brian, Gavilean, Valmion, Draven, Adonai, Mutoah, Cabbinal, and all the others that have passed through the great arena honorably.
The angel's voice was but a soft whisper as the words carried to all those men with children,
"May you embrace the love that lives on in your children, this day and those to come"
Happy Father's Day
