She sat on a wide flat stone picking at the long stems of grass that whispered moves with the wind's sweet caress. She gazed toward the arena. Battle inside her thoughts continued for a while but finally calmed into a decision.
"I 'ave to leave Rhydin for awhile."
The short sentence mingled into the morning air and dissipated into the crisp surrounding. She looked on toward the arena's wall and behind them, the past stared back. She smiled as memories formed into the images of yesterday. She felt as she could reach out and touch them or rather yet, jump into the picture, once again.
She knew that this time her venture to leave would be longer than any other time. She felt a presence near and it was such the eery feeling. She turned slowly.
"Marit Takcouma?"
She nodded but was confused by the presence. The voice was muffled and the individual was attired in black.
"Who are ye?" she asked.
The response was not a pleasing one. She had not been quick enough to dodge the hand that covered her mouth. She had not been quick enough to move from the sharp needle that pinched and made it's way under her skin where a dose of some cold liquid pounded and made delivery.
"You shall be going to Abylynonia now. It's been a long time." the voice said. "Go ahead....fight. There's nothing you can do about it Lady. Very soon, you will be sleeping like a baby and when you awake....Well...I promised the King I would tell you a story about darkness...." And then the laugh. "Tell me. Are yer eyes really Gold? real gold?"
The voice went silent.
She could hear a patter of steps rush toward her.
"M'lady Marit, are you alright?"
Her golden eyes looked upon her rescuer. She managed to answer with a small nod.
She reached into the pocket of her aztec-designed cloak and pulled from it, a scroll.
"Please,......I need to go 'ere. Can you take me 'ere?"
Gently he took the scroll into his hands and unrolled it. He placed his site on the map drawing. His reaction was quick.
"No.....I am sorry. This I can not, absolutely, will not do. You want to leave Rhydin."
"Look....I'm beggin' ye.....I 'ave to go there for a while. I ...I must."
"You, M'lady, I am taking with me....and when you are well enough we shall talk about this."
The delivery of the dose began to affect her. She could not argue with her rescuer.
She closed her eyes. With her eyes shut, she said, "Did ye get a look at whom that was? Did ye uncover the face? Did,.... "
She could hear the leaves crunch beneath his steps. He was fast and lightfooted. She wondered who he was........
and he answered her, but.......she went into a sleep.
