Lily stroked at her her last fine gown. Unhappily she had sold the others. Her last one was a gorgeous gown made from the finest silk. Its hue was somewhat of a smoky blue. Five slits were in the long sleeves which had frills at the cuffs. Sewn in petticoats gave the dress a fuller body. Oh, how Lily longed to wear more dresses of this kind! Alas, she could not.

The fairy hung up the dress alongside the woolen ones. It seemed like a tropical bird within a flock of ravens. At that moment Lily scolded herself for selling her frippery. She needed the money, yes, but how could she go on wearing homespun clothing that itched? It was unbearible!

She understood that having this baby was going to take more than money and her time. Otherwise, she would not have sold the dresses. Sacrifices, emotion, care, love, and many other things were needed in order to keep this baby alive.

Six weeks pregnant, she was, and was utterly misrable. Yet, through all the pain and such, she knew she had to go onward. Yes, she was going to have this bastard child whether she wanted to or not.
