Overlord Challenge
From: shivblade@aol.com (SHIV BLADE)
Date: 21 Sep 1998 00:18:15 EDT
To the Community,
It should come as no surprise to anyone that I Baron Avery Shiv Blade am issuing my challenge to the Overlord Dalamar. I have made my intent known to everyone that I would do this for a long time now. Since I became a renegade I said that at the first chance to challenge Dal, I would. Well the time has come. My reasons have been made know to everyone previously, so I will not list them again. For those wondering... Yes Sartan knew I was going to do
this when he challenged... for I told him. I also talked with Dal and he knew I would do this. In fact everyone should have known, as this has been my intent all along. I will face Sartan first, and depending on the outcome I will go onto face Dal. Say what you will.... i am only fullfilling a promise

::Takes a pen and posts a quick note of her own.::
And, due to a situation beyond my control, do I once more hold back my official challenge...
Holding to a promise of my own.
I -will- duel you though Avery.

It would appear that Dal still holds the crown, why does that not surprise me? Well Shiv, good luck in yer challange and may grace favor your sword, for i feel you will need it and may the light/or dark which ever you are guide you to a victorious win.

Why?....
He smiled at that question....
Why?....
Well, lets put it this way for those that wonder that same question, or are wanting to atack me for my choice. You all know my views differ. Well that i have been saying all along. Every time i bring up my views, on whatever topic it is, there is a response that says.... "dont like it then Challenge" well now i challenge. So that the conflicting views are on my side and not his. So that when someone talks about those views i will be able to say "dont
like it... then challenge." The fact is this has been my intent all along. You all knew that.. i have not kept it a secret. So, i am only holding true to my honor, and fullfilling a promiss i made long ago. This was my first chance to challenge Dal. Unfortunatley... or perhaps for the best.... i must defeat Sartan to get to him. For if i lose tomorow night then i will never get my chance to duel Dal. Yet if i win.... then i will go on. So why?...
Because its our views about this community differ enough that i feel it must be done.

::shakes his head::
Another challenge to the Overlord....and yet again....the cycle of destruction begins before the match even reaches the rings.
I will continue to maintain a belief that a challenge to the Crown is not a betrayal of a man.....but a wish for change, nothing more...nothing less.
It is disgusting to see the condemnation of those that would fight for something better, something new and different. A furthering of the ill set belief that our Arena has fallen into nothing better than a contest of popularity.
The Crown is not a man.....it is an ideal. When the man that holds that crown betrays the ideal, then those that feel they must will challenge him. You, the people of this Arena confuse the Crown with your feelings and loyalty to man....and thusly are wrong. It is the same with Baronial titles...those that wear them well are rarely challenged....those that do not...are eventually removed.
Avery does not betray the ideal.....he challenges a man. One would hope you can make this distinction.
May your blade strike true Avery.

Adonai~
I know you were gone for a while, so I will explain. There is a long story behind this Challenge that makes it different than the Challenge that are simply for the Crown.
Ask Avery yourself. He will explain everything.

In all truth i do challenge this Ideal that is spoke of. You have to look closley at the picture Sid. I have always stated that i like Dal. I think him to be a very great person. I have time again stated that i hold the man in high honor and respect. The reason i challenge is because of his veiws. Now you might say that his views make the "man". Well i think of those veiws as the ideals. His views on how one
should wear the crown is what i am challenging. Not Dal personally. Just how he thinks about and interprets the rules. That is pretty much the ideals of the crown.

Because, I believe, Adonai is talking about people that just want the crown for the sole reason of gaining the crown. At least, that was my impression of what he was talking about.
You challenge Dal because you disagree with his policies. Or so you have let on.

Avery,
After thinking about the circumstances to the reasons (which memory failed to serve me for a while) I decided to write my thoughts. Just for clarification, you said you don't want someone holding opposing views to have their rights.
This isn't meaning to cause a huge debate, but it's just something to think about. You didn't like the fact Dal "banished" Evan to renegade (at least that's what I read from the message written over a month ago). Do you think that you should be challenged because you feel it is a baron's "right" to challenge the overlord without facing consequences?
As overlord, don't you think it's unfair that a neutral can excercise their "right" to challenge yet when banishing them to renegade, people start gasping? The overlord doesn't hold the "rights", you do.
As discussed a while ago, every action is consequential. Every person being affected by an action has an option. Heck, if someone challenged you right now, you DON'T have to accept it. It won't get positive results, but raising your sword at the overlord in a challenge is, in fact, consequential as well. Granted, "banishing" causes results, and an immediate example is Evan's right to challenge for overlord for being sent to Renegade status.
Those are my thoughts; just something to think about.

Var, I would say that Avery is being challenged for just that reason. Avery disagrees with Dal. Instead of trying to make Dal change his mind, he does what someone who disagrees with the Overlord's policies should do. He challenges. Sartan disagrees with Avery. So he challenges Avery. What is more, Drake disagrees with him too and has plans to challenge him in the future.
Avery at no time denied Dal his right to his opinion. He is simply responding to all the people who said, "If you don't like Dal's policies, tough. Challenge him." I think he is going about it the right way. He is trying to make what he thinks is a positive change in the policies of the Overlord by taking the throne and implementing them. That is the way to do it if you feel you must.

In my opinion, Percy, if Avery had decided to go Renegade in the first place, instead of jerking us all around, it wouldn't have been so bad.
